It was nice to hang out in the chat channel and dole out a little advice to those new to the game. All duders welcome!

Giant Bomb EVE Corp and Community - New duders welcome!
I'd love to give a HUGE shoutout to Dave for mentioning EVE on the bombcast. Our channel has never had this many duders before!

@kinggiddra: So... the part he left out is if you sub he gets an item worth about 1/2 billion isk.
I mentioned that very clearly in this thread. The original post didn't include that link. I only added it after a week and we saw a bunch of people actually joining the channel after it was just a couple of us for a year.
Then you're more honest than most in EVE =P
This is an exciting week to get started in EVE. This weekend a group of corporations living in the Syndicate region have banded together and started the first ever player-run tournament in EVE! CCP is helping them organize the tournament and it'll be showing most of Saturday and Sunday!
I made a character a few weeks ago - name is Scott Colson.
Look me up! I currently don't know anyone, and just mine asteroids alone, lol.
I haven't seen you in game yet. Make sure you join the channel!
How hard is it to get into this game? Hearing the stories over the years and now Dave is gonna start his own corp, I feel like nows the time to try and get in on it. How long do you have to play every day to get decent at it? I am just wondering if I'll be able to get into it playing maybe an hour a day, maybe 2 a day or something.
Are there servers? What's the Dave/GB server if so.

There's only one server, just use one of the trial links posted in here (or mine) and make a character, tell us your name and we'll make sure to get you all the help you need, the learning curve isn't anywhere near as daunting as people make it out to be
I have had a game key for a long while sitting on my Amazon account. After listening to Dave on last week's bombcast, I have the bug to try it out. Last few times I gave it a go I was somewhat overwhelmed and didn't know anyone. I will post later when I get my new account set up. See you duders in game.
@kerse: While I'm not necessarily the guy to talk (only been playing for about a month or so), it's more about research than actually playing. I'm sure there's some more stuff to learn once you start talking about organized fleets etc, but by that time you get to that point you've taken plenty of other steps that will help you out.

If you're looking for the next WoW killer you will be disappointed. Content in EVE to a certain extent is only made by players acting in the world. If you only want to play an hour a day, you'll have to figure out a great way to spend that hour yourself. There are any number of things you could do in an hour, but it's up to do you decide how to spend that hour. You won't be given a gold "!" and a pat on the back. More than likely you'll face the barrel of a gun and be asked to empty your pockets.
EVE runs on one central server in London for all intents and purposes. Everyone playing EVE is playing together on that server. There is a second server in China that kind of acts like Earth-2 or Bizzaro EVE, but that server is not allowed to communicate outside of China.
Edit: Rather, Chinese players are not allowed to officially play on the main EVE server.
@k4el: Thanks for posting the buddy referral link. I activated the extended trial and I'm in!
I'm Tucker Truckman in the GB chat. One day I hope to find a box of money.
We've updated the in game channel to "giantboming"
WE ALSO HAVE A BRAND NEW CORPORATION!
"Kite Co. Space Trucking"
Apply today!
A Crash Course Guide to Fleets
On Friday Kite Co. will be holding its first roam! We’ll be forming around 0000 EVE time (1900 EST) and it should last an hour or two. For half an hour to an hour before the roam we’ll be holding a small training session to get everyone up to speed before we depart. It’s imperative that you prepare beforehand, though. The training session will be only for last minute clarifications and working out any problems.
Fleet Info |
---|
Fleet Name: Video Thing FC: Shin Hye Park Comms: information will be in fleet MOTD Composition: PVP Rifters || Rifters > anything else > beginner ships Location: Seil @ Station @ 00:00 - Stay docked Duration: 1-2 hours Reimbursable: No Why: To have funnnnnnn! |
-
There are quite a few things that aspiring pilots will need to do before tomorrow. Before anything else you need to be able to fly the ship we’re going to use:
[Rifter, PVP fit] |
---|
Micro Auxiliary Power Core I Nanofiber Internal Structure I Damage Control I |
Warp Scrambler I 1MN Microwarpdrive I Medium Shield Extender I |
150mm Light AutoCannon I, EMP S 150mm Light AutoCannon I, EMP S 150mm Light AutoCannon I, EMP S [empty high slot] |
Small Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer I Small Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer I Small Anti-Thermal Screen Reinforcer I |
You will need to be able to use all of the above modules minus the three rig slots on the bottom. The rigs will be pre-fit onto your ship or you can have someone fit them onto your ship for you. The skills take around 14-16 hours to train from absolutely nothing. A limited amount of free ships will be available on a first-come-first-serve basis.
-
After you get your skill queue sorted you will need to work on setting up your overview. It’s imperative that you set it up correctly, so you don’t end up shooting your own fleet! I have used this overview pack and would recommend it:
http://forums.ponywaffe.org/topic/1697-sarahs-overview-pack%e2%84%a2-rel-024-retribution-11/
Additionally you will need to take these steps to complete your overview setup: http://i.imgur.com/vWldzUk.png
-
After finishing off your overview you should install Mumble.
-
There is a surprised planned for this fleet. The chance of a fight is 100%!
-
UPDATE: We will be departing from Seil. It is right next door to Mani, so there should be no problem.
wen I played I was on the way to flying a Carrier. Sadly I do not ave a extra 15 bucks a month to play. I used to have a guy who supported my account but he stopped playing.
I really do miss the game.
@llamaegg: If you start tonight you should be able to get in by the cutoff tomorrow, but just barely. There should be more events sometime next week, though. Even if you miss this one there will be more!
@kinggiddra: Nice job on the crash course! Thanks to you and all the experienced Kite Co. members for trying to ease us noobs in!
I'd love to fly with you guys tomorrow, but unfortunately the schedule collides with my classes.
I'll be there. I'm Kieran Severan, been playing for a week now. All of my skills are Gallente and Hybrid turrets, so I'm trying to fit up an Incursus roughly to parity with the prescribed Rifters. I'll have the necessary skills to use the Rifter if i gotta, though.
I've been playing for the past few days and decided to sub hoping to make some actual progress in the game. I'd like to join the corp if I can, name's Sarif Comstock in game. Not sure how to apply in game.
Join the chat channel "giantbombing" and someone can help. There should be a link to the corp's page in the MOTD text you can click.
Here's the info to the teamspeak server, re-conjigured for the corp
Server Address: evebombing.typefrag.com
If you guys need the Password ask someone in the corp chat and they can supply it to ya
Nobody else put this here yet. https://kb.pleaseignore.com/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=759317
We have a corp now? So we have pretty big group of people playing now? Dave's mention during the Bombcast reminded me of the game. The trader I made last year is still around, maybe I should install the game again even if I'm not sure if I will have time to actually stick around and play the game this time either. I'm also from Europe so the time zones will probably be pretty bad for organized things.
Furthermore, I have literally no experience with PvP (or advanced combat overall). The character on my account have mostly trade skills (and some research and manufacturer skills if I remember correctly. When I actually played the game actively, several years ago, I was a miner.
@gike987: Don't worry about stuff like that, we just had 18 inexperienced people in cheap ships go into low sec and blow up a ship worth way more then our ships combined. It looks like we might do something like that again, and we do mining stuff also. Most events so far has been in decent times for us Europeans to.
@forcen: Hell yeah, we did, and it was awesome, although I only dealt 0,2 % of the damage and was the first ship to be blown up :P
@kinggiddra: I was thinking it would be really cool if someone like me (who is completely new to the game) sat down with someone like you on mumble and record a podcast/ interview about what we were doing and what happened...
I think a podcast like that would bring even more people in.
