Fun Indeed
I haven't gone back and played this game for years but it still holds a place in my memory. This game was a rare find in the seemingly enormous ocean of original XBOX games. As would be expected the component of free will is this games' true driving force. The ability for the player to choose to be good, evil, or a little of either/both is a choice that is beyond fun.
The RPG component of experience based on the attacks the player chooses make the player decide what path they will walk in terms of play style, short of sinking hours and hours into building them all (which is always a choice). Growing from a boy into a man that holds the fate of all Albion in his hands is a story too fun to turn aside from. The quests, side-quests, and choices the player makes all enhance the fun of the playing experience that is FABLE. The allies, enemies, wandering traders, and locations are all memorable in some way or another. Traveling from small town(s) to a gladiators' Colosseum give the player a feeling of both free will and power that is unlike much of anything that has been experienced on a console for a long count of years.
If you like to frequent resale shops and you happen to walk by a copy of this game (probably less than $10) I'd say it's your duty as a gamer who digs sword-and-sorcery to pick it up and give it a try sometime.
