    Overview

    This internet meme has been popularized by the use of a screenshot of Jean-Luc Picard 'facepalming' when Q shows up in one of the early episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Facepalm screenshots from additional episodes of Star Trek TNG, as well as ASCII version have since propagated through the internet.

    When talking on a forum, or within an MMO, people commonly use /facepalm to indicate frustration at another person's incompetence.
