i found a sweet alien gun when i was walking around today, i got a radio signal for a recon ship, and looked around and theres a hung crashed alien ship, i walked up to it and theres a alien laying there dead, it has a gun next to it, and some ammo for it (and i think thats the only ammo for the gun you can get)

and this gun is insane, i cant remember, but it does somewhere between 60-80 damage..very good..go find it

I don't have any of the DLC packages, but I found Lincoln's Repeater to be pretty awesome.

I'd consider it a spoiler because part of the appeal of that gun to me is that I just happened to be wandering the Capitol Wasteland and was all like "Holy shit, this crater's really radioactive... Holy shit, it's a crashed spaceship!  HOLY SHIT IT'S A DEAD ALIEN AND A GUN!!!"  And I'm glad I had no idea of the existence of the gun outside of the alien ammo I found in a crater that one time. :\"

Also, I think the Alien Gun has an extraordinarily high Critical Hit damage ceiling, but it's base damage pales in comparison to the Experimental MIRV--a catapult that launches eight Fat Man nukes at once.

My favorite weapon in the game, however, is either the Reservist's Rifle or Lincoln's Repeater. The latter is an all-around workhorse, and the former fits my character's sniper/stealth archetype to the letter.

I advise you to conserve your ammo for that.

In the Lincoln Memorial library thing or wherever the fuck it is.  Been a while since I played, so I couldn't tell you exactly.  If you pick up the guess from Abraham Washington over in Rivet City, it'll lead you right to the place.  = D"

Don't know about you guys, but I always loved the combat shotgun.

My favorite weapon was the "Terrible Shotgun". Just a more badass combat shotgun obtained by killing the merchant in the underground raider compound.

a little update on that alien gun, i went into paradise falls, and blasted all the slavers with it, and killed most of them with just one shot, and they fell to dust.........domination

Nothing can best  Lincoln's Repeater. Well, maybe the MIRV.

"You can get more ammo for the alien gun and firelance in Fort Constantine (outcast one), if you have the "find more ammo" perk you can get like 50 cells"

It isn't really the best gun in the game because there's a very finite amount of ammo for it. For a more permanent solution to your need for OP firearms, get the Lincoln's Repeater or A21's Plasma Rifle.

Terrible Shotgun all the way.

i got the terrible shotgun, and i must say im kinda disappointed in it, i was shooting a super mutant with it, i shot it in its face, and it took very little damage off, so i switched to my assault rifle and finished it off

The alien gun is the best weapon in the game, The Terrible Shotgun is very good aswell.

The Tesla cannon (Broken Steel DLC). Seriously the first time I blasted a vertibird out of the sky I was like: "Oh hell yeah, its on!"

 Lincoln's Repeater , so reliable definitely my go to gun.

Combat Shotgun rules the earth!

Lincoln's Repeater is absolutely my favourite if I'm wandering around the Wastelands.  The Terrible Shotgun's good for dungeon work, but I like the Tesla Rifle and Chinese Assault Rifle too.  Get the action boy perk, and the special hockey mask, and you can fire that bad boy like 9 times.  :)

Haven't picked up the Broken Steel DLC yet, but I did just find the Victory Rifle.  I knew I was going to like it just fine when I stepped out the door of the shack, saw a Vertibird land, and sniped off the Enclave soldiers without them even raising an alarm.  The distance I can get on that gun in VATS is insane.

The Terrible shotgun, blowing heads off with it is fun.

Ultra 10mm SMG.  Made me a lot of money.

Plus, the alien crash landing is a Fallout staple.
