So with the STEAM weekend deal on Fallout 3, i kinda splurged on the game of the year edition since it was 25$. But i already own the retail game but i never bought the DLC. Also did the same for Oblivion since it's 9$, but i already own the retail game. Do you guys find yourself buying a game you already own, again with just a few extras?
Fallout 3

In Bethesda's first-person revival of the classic post-apocalyptic RPG series, the player is forced to leave Vault 101 and venture out into the irradiated wasteland of Washington D.C. to find his or her father.
Buying duplicates of games
hmm, i already bought Fallout 3 for the PC around launch, but it's now gone missing, if i got it off steam would i still be able to earn achievement and used my old saves?
" Never. I'm not a fucking idiot. "I don't see a problem when you buy a PC game that you have on a console if you hear it has great mods. Either that or the downloadable copy's really cheap, like how I re-purchased S.T.A.L.K.E.R for $2 during the Winter Sale on Steam.
Other than that, yeah it's pretty dumb.
I had been planning on getting the GotY edition for both PC and 360 (ACHIEVEMENTS ZOMG) and being 25 on steam, i just might now
multiple games i bought
mass effect 2 steam special edition three times
dragon age steam special edition twice
splinter cell 3 steam special edition twice
battlefield BC2 3 limited edition three times
the settlers 7 special edition twice
cod mw2 3 times
just cause 2 twice
GTA LCS twice
borderlands 4 times
all for my friends and my brother.
I never buy the same game twice, I just don't have the money to be buying multiple versions of the same game. My only exception is Portal which I originally got on The Orange Box, later bought one copy for my friend, kind of bought again as Portal: Still Alive because I really wanted to experience the extra content and got again for the PC recently because it was going free. Oh and I did originally get TF2 as part of The Orange Box but later bought the standalone version for PC because with all the updates the PC version had so much more content and it became obvious Valve weren't going to bring that stuff to the 360.
I've bought a lot of old games on the virtual console and XBLA that I have actual physical copies of, but who wants to plug up their old dusty consoles every time they have a nostalgia urge?
I have like 3 copies of Duke Nukem 3D. Not for the extras, though. Just 'cause it's that good.
To stay mildly on topic, my first copy of Fallout 3 was the GOTY and that's all I've ever needed.
" @AlwaysAngry said:Then change your title to "Buying duplicates of Fallout 3," because it's misleading." Never. I'm not a fucking idiot. "it would cost less to buy FO3 GOTY on steam for 25 then just buying the DLC for your original game, so you're an idiot if you don't (and want the DLC, that is) "

The only times I've bought duplicates was when I bought the second with the intention of giving it to a friend. You want to talk about excessive? I once saw a picture of some crazy Japanese guy's haul of what I recall being six copies each of the PS3 and 360 editions of No More Heroes: Paradise.
I'll buy multiple copies if I think it's a good investment or if it's released via digital distribution at a sale price. I'll also do the same if I find a good deal on a PC version of a game I already own on consoles, like the aforementioned Oblivion and Morrowind sale on Steam. Kinda nice to have backups in case I lose discs, go on the road with my laptop, or whatever.

There was a stage where I somehow ended up with 4 copies of Cod4.
I do have Fallout 3 for PS3 and 360 alright. I got it and finished everything on 360 then saw the special edition for stupid cheap for PS3
Only if it's insanely cheap or I've lost the original (or can't be bothered to root it out). Asides from digital distribution, I've bought one or two duplicates of rare games, because I like rare shit. Case in point - I bought a copy of Dawn of Sorrow off eBay, and soon after bought another copy for the hell of it.
I own 3 copies of Diablo II + Lord of Destruction just so I could play with 3 different characters at the same time.
I gots the day one copy, then I wanted to try and mod so I bought the PC version. My computer is shit though so it didn't work. :(
I've 2 copies of Dragon age, MW2, Borderlands I'm sure there's more but my collection is obscured by items and I cant be bothered checking!
" I own 5 copies of DOOM so I guess I don't have a problem with it. "@AlwaysAngry said:

I think you too would get along
I've bought the first Splinter Cell and Alien Hominid twice, each copy being on a different console. I also bought Gunstar Heroes for my ps3, and 360, and I may end up getting the virtual console version too because of how Digital Eclipse fucked up the co-op mode on the live/psn version.
" @warxsnake: I think the OP was talking about buying multiple copies of a game and keeping them. Not giving them out as gifts. "ah then in that case, force unleashed for some reason.
oh and every ubisoft game im in. I end up giving a copy to someone for free and buying the pc version for myself.
I have the orange box for xbox (when my pc broke) and then when i built my new computer (being a PC snob) i couldnt bear the thought of owning it on console and not pc so i bought it again for PC. Then i noticed on XBLM there was something called portal "still alive" which i thought was additional content but it was just portal. So essentially i bought portal 3 times. Then they released it FOR FREE. FREE. DAMMIT.... FREE.
I have two copies of dirt2 cus I got it when it came out and then later that year there was a codemasters pack that included and grid, dirt, fuel etc all for less than I got dirt2 for at first, same thing happened with COH I got the COH pack on steam when it was cheap and then a while later Impluse had a crazy pack of THQ games including red faction guerilla, selling for less than the game buy it's self was selling for, it also in included the first DOW+ expansions and about 8 other games
