    Fallout 3 Review 0

When a game is released with the Fallout name in the title it brings with it a certain level of expectation, now finally after 10 years we have the chance to see if Bethesda has cooked up something worth the wait. For those that cannot remember, or simply weren't gaming when Interplay began the series in the late 90's you can rest easy that Fallout 3 doesn't require any prior knowledge, but as a bonus, let me fill you in a little back-story to save you checking the World Wide Wikipedia. My trek through the Capital Wasteland. 1

After Oblivion, Bethesda’s 2006 hit, the expectations were extremely high for Fallout 3 and the game doesn’t disappoint. Although some fanatics of the original Fallouts may not fully appreciate the move from top-down fully turn-based to a hybrid of the latter and first person shooter , fans of previous Bethesda games will recognise the core movement, navigation and little secrets they have added. In fact there are a huge amount of similarities between this and Oblivion, although instead of wande...

Fallout 3 is flawed fun 0

Fallout 3 is a big, big game. And when a game has such a quantity of content, glitches, both tiny and big, are pretty much unavoidable.  Therefore, this new Fallout, that really doesn't have a whole lot in common with the previous ones aside from the theme, is riddled with glitches. However, if you are willing to look past those mistakes, you'll find a deep and expansive game, that has plenty of great moments and lots of things to see and find. It's a wastelandFallout 3 is set in the post-apocaly...

I'm gonna have me some moonshine! 0

After the release of Broken Steel it looked like the end of the line for Fallout 3’s downloadable adventures. Luckily for us, however, Bethesda’s commitment to this sprawling open-world RPG is still in full swing as we have two new pieces of DLC to look forward to over the next few summer months. The first of which is available to buy right now for 800 Microsoft Points in the shape of Point Lookout; a derelict little town located just outside of the Capital Wasteland, home to numerous wacky char...

The best Fallout 3 DLC to date 0

Point Lookout adds more of everything you (probably) love about Fallout 3 to Fallout 3. To start with, it takes place in an entirely new area, not unlike The Pitt, but unlike The Pitt, there is a lot to find and explore for diligent players. Besides the main quest line, which in itself is fairly meaty and should take you 2 or 3 hours, there are interesting side quests to uncover and plenty of locations containing new enemies and loot. The town of Point Lookout is surrounded by a swamp, whose ab...

Shines with the brightness of a nuclear detonation. 0

Being someone who sadly has not had the opportunity to play either of this game's prestigious predecessors, and neither having known the wonders Cyrodiil within Bethesda's previous game The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (although this has now been gladly rectified), I approached Fallout 3 not knowing exactly what to expect, since I had no bar to judge it against. What I discovered was a game packed to the brim with a unique atmosphere, a fantastic sense of scale and grandeur, a solid plot and huge ...

Oblivion with guns? Well that's a good thing. 0

Fallout began as an isometric RPG game back in the mid-90's on the PC. Betheseda Softworks recently pick up the rights to bring out a new Fallout game. Fallout 3 is it. Fallout 3 looks nothing like the first two games in the series as it is viewed from the first (or third) person.  This makes the game feel a lot like Betheseda's most recent game: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, which is certainly a good thing.Fallout 3 offers many dialouge options. Some of which are very funnyFallout 3 is set in...

    Playing to your weaknesses 6

Fallout 3, the base game, has a lot going for it. A huge open world to explore, a ton of character customization options, competent conversation and morality systems, the list goes on. Fallout 3 was great because it could be approached in a variety of ways, each just as valid as the next. For the first Fallout 3 DLC, Operation Anchorage, this all has been thrown out the window in favor of an extremely linear, extremely combat-oriented romp through Alaska. Not real Alaska of course- from D.C. to A...

    A Review with Spoilers 0

It has been nearly a year since Fallout 3 first released and since then it has has re-written its own ending.  So, naturally, the question arises: which version of Fallout 3 do you review at this point if you're late to the party?Mine is for the original.Dying at the end of Fallout 3 is monumental for the story's sake.  It really speaks volumes about your character, good, neutral or evil.  I played as a good character (like most) so my perception on the main arc is this:  You grew up idolizing y...

    Post Apocalyptic Simulator! 1

The best things in life are worth waiting for. Fallout fans have been waiting for almost 10 years for a true sequel to Fallout 2, considered by many to be one of the best non-fantasy singleplayer RPG's ever made. Now courtesy of Bethesda, makers of Oblivion Fallout 3 has arrived. Was it worth the wait? Most of the readers of this haven't a clue what Fallout is so I'll explain. The idea of the Fallout universe is that after WW2, technology's advancement increase past ours. Fission power becomes pa...

    A bleak yet awesome post-apocalyptic future. 0

Have you ever wondered what would happen if the world succumbed to nuclear war?  No?  Well the Fallout franchise has, and the newest addition to the franchise, Fallout 3, is no different except in the sense that it has a new first-person interface, better graphics, more user-friendly gameplay, and a more engrossing experience for the player.  Fans of the fallout series might be a little skeptical to these changes, but these changes have made fallout better than ever.    Those unfamiliar with fa...

A non bias review from someone who has not played 1 and 2. 0

Fallout 3 is an ambitiously made game. The size and scope alone of Fallout 3 are ENORMOUS. It is a FPS with deeply customizable character choices and other RPG elements that will make it easily stand apart from a traditional FPS, but also simultaneously differentiate itself from a RPG. In short, the developer Bethesda seems to know what they're doing. When you first enter the wasteland ruins of what remains from the post-nuclear American devastated cityscape you can really feel the vast...

Fallout 3 : Oblivion-developer ’s open world post-nuclear apocalyptic RPG thingy, combining dread and depression with a smiling 50s cartoon character! Story : The character creation system and tutorial are not-so-subtly tied into your character’s birth and upbringing, within a giant Vault that’s been shut of from the rest of the world. When you’re father (voiced by Liam Neeson and why not?) suddenly escapes, all hell breaks loose and you escape the Vault and into the desecrated remains of a pos...

Welcome to the Tropical Wasteland of Ghouls and Super Mutants! 2

Fallout 3 is one of those games that, at first, it seems pretty bad. You’re thrown out of a vagina and you begin life in the vault. Now, you don’t really get the “full-experience” of life in the vault because you go from around age 1 or 2 to age 10, then 16, and finally 18. You’re waked up to find your dad has escaped from the vault and you have to go find him! This is when you’re introduced to arguably Fallout’s greatest pro, the Wasteland. It is actually quite intimidating knowing that this po...

    Very big simulation 0

This being the first dlc, i would say it lived up to the fallout 3 level. You received a unknown transmission which you have to investigate, upon reaching your destination you are asked to enter a simulation. The reason for this is to help the researchers at this secret base open an armory which has unique weapons. The simulation itself is basically the Americans fighting Chinese army. You go through the sim completing objectives which are set by the commanders who are in charge. As this is a ...

The end was only the beginning 0

This is the one we’ve all been waiting for. Operation: Anchorage and The Pitt were decent expansions to the Fallout 3 universe, but Broken Steel has always been the big one everyone has looked ahead to. While it’s not quite the Shivering Isles of Fallout 3, it still offers plenty of hours of gameplay, and more importantly, increases the level cap and extends the game beyond the disappointing and abrupt original ending. I’ll be talking about that ending here, so you have been warned; spoilers ahe...

I never played a fallout out game before fallout 3 so going into it I didn't have any Kind of biased towards or against it. Looking at trailers and gameplay footage from what i could tell it was a Elder Scrolls Oblivion with guns which sounded pretty great. When I brought it and started playing it I was like yeah this is totally Oblivion with guns and at first I didn't like it at all. Let's say that upon reaching adulthood you managed to escape this oppressive habitat, thus coming across your first taste of daylight. The Pitt didn’t get off to a good start. Within hours of going up, message boards were filled to the brim with angry gamers complaining of myriad glitches and crashes with Bethesda’s latest piece of downloadable content for Fallout 3. It was eventually taken down due to a corrupt file and put back up again about a day later much to the pleasure of many. Those that patiently waited will find a much more enjoyable expansion than Operation: Anchorage, even if it’s still relatively short and un-poli...

    I like it a lot. 0

Fallout 3 is an old game. The environment is worn down, destroyed and aged. The kitsch 50’s Americana theme harkens back to days long gone. Many of the male characters in the game are in their 70’s at least. Most of these ‘oldy but goody’ themes are highly entertaining and rewarding to witness. Fallout 3’s agedness is not all positive though. The voice acting, combat, environment and glitches all get old quickly, and it puts a damper on an otherwise ambitious and i...

Released on June 23, 2009, this DLC focuses on brand new locale: A Baltimore/Louisiana swampland that is bursting with surprises from the south: confederate style. Ten years after Fallout 2 was released, the Fallout series is back and arguably better than ever. Unlike it's predecessors, Fallout 3 ditches the top down perspective for a first person/third person view, and adds many graphical and gameplay enhancements that couldn't be replicated in 1998. In Fallout 3, you'll be thrust into the what is known as the Capital Wasteland, or post-apocalypitic Washington DC. You'll meet ghouls, mutants, future political figures, and explore the ruins and relics of A...

It’s a well known fact that Fallout 3 resembles Oblivion in a different setting. It’s hard to get the scope right, but when you finally play it – presuming you've played Oblivion before – you suddenly realize how true those statements were. Some complain, some see as natural, Bethesda used the same version of its previous engine to craft another experience; I don’t think there should be any problem with that. You find a lot of what made Oblivion, well... Point Lookout takes you on a boat ride to the swampy Point Lookout in Maryland, an area full of cults, ghouls, Swampfolk and madmen. Along the way, you'll meet a Ghoul colonialist, lose a piece of your mind, have the best vision sequence in a game ever, and possibly even kill a brain in a jar. A different style of experience, but still Fallout 3. 0

Operation: Anchorage is an interesting bit of DLC that is throw onto the side of the Fallout 3 story. You can access the content at virtually any time by going to the aid of the distress beacon that is activated in the capital wasteland.  Basically, some Brotherhood Outcasts want to get to some phat loot, but they cannot because they do not have the proper computer to access a simulation program that will unlock the armory. Conveniently, your Pip-Boy can do this and you get tossed into a pre-war...

    Operation Anchorage 0

This is probably the best looking add on by far. Operation Anchorage is sort of a guilty pleasure for me. I heard it was bad and it has some bad moments in it, but damn I enjoyed every minute of it. Operation Anchorage is a very combat heavy add on, not so much as Broken Steel was. What is different between the two is Anchorage just does it better. It goes back to a few enemies at a time, you pop them off then move on it's a proven concept. And it's that basic gameplay that make this game work...

    Oblivion with guns? 0

That's what me and most of my friends thought when we were waiting for Fallout 3 : Oblivion with guns.  Turns out, we were closer than I actually expected.  The game really feels like the latest Elder Scrolls game in the way you generally interact with the world and its inhabitants.  But, instead of large, brightly colored fantasy environments, Fallout 3 employs the ever so lovable browns and grays, and instead of Swords and Sorcery, we get Rifles and Rocket Launchers. Now, I'm not saying that a ...

Point Lookout is the fourth add-on for Fallout 3 and includes the additon of a an expansive new location for the player to explore. This downloadable content takes us to the far away island of Point Lookout, a most wretched hive of scum and villainy and also a treasure hunter’s paradise; only accessible by a journey that not only costs a lot of caps but is also on a boat that you wouldn’t exactly call safe.Once the player has arrived at the swamp land that is Point Lookout, they are greeted by a...

Fallout 3 is a strange game. On the one hand it's one of the most open and expansive videogame experiences to come along in a long time, but on the other hand it's marred by a myriad of niggling issues that ultimately lead to it not living up to Bethesda's grandiose vision. The Fallout series is one of the most beloved in all of modern video games. I absolutely love the radio stations, both the songs and the DJ's. The voice acting is generally excellent. The VATS combat system is extremely entertaining. This is a very different DLC. It was fun, but with some backdrops. It starts off with you getting sucked up from space, and there your adventure begins. I think the biggest problems with it is that it is very short and the exploration is set to a minimum. Also, all the alien weapons are inferior to the alien blaster that you can get in the wasteland. However, there story and lay of the limited land are very polished. There are only a handful of new enemies you will see; including a couple variat...

Fallout 3 on PC is a game for hardcore PC gamers who enjoy at least the odd RPG. The game requires a significant investment of time and effort but the reward is well worth it.    The SPECIAL (Strength, Perception, Endurance, Charisma, Intelligence, Agility and Luck) system allows you to define any sort of archetype you'd like for your character. With a little forethought you can produce a huge variety of play styles from the system. For the Fallout veterans perks take the place of the old pe...

It is impossible to talk about Fallout 3 without making the inevitable comparisons to The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. After all, they are both open world RPGs made by the same development team at Bethesda Softworks.      I think Bethesda learned a lot from their mistakes with Oblivion.  In Fallout 3, they gave us a clever world, one you that want to explore.  They gave you interesting sidequests, ones you want to complete.  The battle system was fun, the graphics were great.  Fallout 3 was a complete turnaround.  I had a blast with it from start to finish.  There were a couple hiccups though, mostly with the level capping.  I seriously hate level capping, and at lvl20?  Jeez.  I wasn't even half way done with t...
