Point Lookout DLC Review
When I first heard about the concept of DLC on consoles around the 360 launch, point lookout is exactly the type of DLC that imagined in my head. Good size, well made and fairly priced. Looking back at past fallout 3 DLC operation anchorage was too linear and combat focused for my liking, I think the pitt was a big step forward and gave me more of the fallout that I love but maybe a bit too short for the price and broken steel let’s be honest was more of a fix than DLC but good none the less. Now point lookout is out and I really think Bethesda has got it spot on.
Point Lookout starts off with your character hearing about this strange unexplored land of treasure and mystery, the ultimate destination for curious wastelander like yourself, how can you refuse? Upon reaching point lookout I was instantly curious, stepping off the boat you realize that this location is unlike any other in fallout 3 and that by itself makes point lookout even more intriguing. I’ve been in the wasteland for so long I forgot what trees looked like. The game really set the tone well, it made me want to explore and really see what point lookout was all about.
Remember the quest in the main game where you first meet the brotherhood of steel? That quest to me rose above the others and unfortunately I found the other quests to be mostly uneventful and just ways to pass the time and level up. Point lookout has the best quests in fallout 3, yeah I said it! I really don’t want to give out too many details but the quests in point lookout far superior to what you find in the wasteland and I think this is mainly down to that quests are more directed, story wise and in terms of game play too. Bethesda made quests just a lot more interesting. They do a good job of leaving little tidbits of information around the place that you might not always find, it’s up to you to find them and I found it adds a quality of I found this and this my little secret which is something I think crucial in a game like fallout. It’s important to feel like you’re doing the exploring and not everything is being laid at your feet. It’s quite hard for me to describe what I mean but I’m really trying to make sure you have the same experience I had and find these little treasures yourself.
