Fallout: New Vegas just got a lot better, at least on the PS3, since the comprehensive patch Bethesda announced in early November is now available on that platform. The Xbox 360 and Steam versions of the patch are due to hit at some point next week.

In November, Bethesda said that this patch would squash save file corruption bugs and address a "number of other issues being reported." In a new blog post, the publisher outlines what's been fixed and addressed. Save file corruption is indeed one of the "top" fixes alongside much-needed companion tweaks.

Here's the full list. Note that this is pretty much a head-to-toe patch, addressing nearly every important system and mechanic in the game.

== TEASER ==Top fixes:
  • Companions now show up as waypoints on the map
  • Companions will always fast travel with you, unless told to wait or sent away
  • Fix: DLC error/save corruption
  • Fix: Entering the strip after Debt Collector causes crash and autosave corruption
  • Fix: Using Mojave Express dropbox can cause DLC warnings
  • Crafting menu now filters valid (bright) recipes to the top of the list
  • Weathered pistol no longer glitches when applying mods

In addition, this patch addresses issues with the following areas:
  • Pip-Boy Interface
  • Pre-Order DLC Items
  • Reputation System
  • Radio Stations
  • Companion fixes
  • Companion Quests
  • Repair Menu
  • Caravan
  • Weapons and Weapon Mods
  • Hardcore Mode
  • Perks
  • Skills
  • Crafting Recipes
  • Crafting Menu
  • Mojave Express
  • Chems/Addiction
  • Doctors
  • Vendors

And fixes for the following quests:
  • Ain’t That a Kick in the Head
  • By a Campfire on The Trail
  • They Went That-a-Way
  • My Kind of Town
  • Boulder City Showdown
  • Ring a Ding Ding!
  • King’s Gambit
  • For The Republic, Part 2
  • Render Unto Caesar
  • Et Tumor, Brute?
  • The House Always Wins
  • Wild Card
  • Beyond the Beef
  • GI Blues
  • How Little We Know
  • Oh My Papa
  • Still In The Dark
  • You’ll Know It When It Happens
  • Arizona Killer
  • Eureka!
  • Veni, Vidi, Vici
  • All or Nothing
  • No Gods, No Masters
  • Birds of a Feather
  • I Put A Spell On you
  • Come Fly With Me
  • That Lucky Old Sun
  • Don’t Make a Beggar of Me
  • The White Wash
  • Ghost Town Gunfight
  • Restoring Hope
  • Bleed Me Dry
  • Aba Daba Honeymoon
  • Tend To Your Business
  • Wang Dang Atomic Tango
  • Flags of Our Foul-Ups
  • Debt Collector
  • Talent Pool
  • Left My Heart
  • Someone To Watch Over Me
  • Hard Luck Blues

Provided these fixes work as intended out in the wild, it appears as if we'll be able to start saying that New Vegas is simply "fun" instead of "buggy, but fun." Are there any PS3 owners out there who've tested this out? Have any of you been holding out on New Vegas until a patch like this hit?

Nice I'm glad it's getting an update.

I hope Veronica will level up now.

Huh.  I should probably start up a new game, then?  Since this patch fixes the first mission?

Awesome.

#9 Posted by gordjt (34 posts) -

Damn, looks like they patched every quest in the game!

Wat

#11 Posted by Gubagaba (31 posts) -

Glad to hear it

#12 Posted by Sin4profit (2907 posts) -

i'm already done with it...it'll take some impressive expansions to get me back in to enjoy these fixes at this point.

#13 Posted by The_Laughing_Man (13629 posts) -

This is shit that a game should not ship with. Look at all the quest bugs.

#14 Posted by TheMasterDS (2015 posts) -

Does the patch fix the part where it freezes a lot or did they fix that in an earlier patch? That was my biggest issue while playing it.

#15 Posted by morningdrive (190 posts) -

while i managed somehow to beat the game when it was a bugfest i don't think i'll be going back to it any time soon even with this patch. The game was decent but i guess playing fallout 3 a month prior to this coming out burned me out a little.

#16 Posted by hermes (1369 posts) -

That is why I will wait a couple months before even trying this game. A couple patches as big as this, and it should be good to go.

#17 Posted by Marcsman (3116 posts) -

About time.
#18 Posted by Hichael (159 posts) -

I remember I stopped playing mainly because the game constantly freezes. If they fixed this then I might go back to it.

same here

Now I'm slightly less terrified of playing this awesome game.

You see, this is exactly why I haven't bulldozed through New Vegas yet. I was waiting for this patch.

#22 Posted by MJHAYLETT (437 posts) -

too little to late. I traded in my copy when it got to the point that every 45 mins it would freeze up and crash my PS3 and I had to hard reset. The more time you put into the game the worse it got. I now will never buy a Bethesda game for full price again. They released it in an unfinished broken mess and they got my money for it which is not good enough so now it's second hand Bethesda games for me so they get none.

#23 Posted by leebmx (2216 posts) -

Wow......stopped playing a for a bit cause I was getting burned out but I think I will drop back in next week.
I was defending this game quite a bit from a the people complaining about the bugs - but I have to say that is an insane list of problems that they needed to patch.
If, as they say, the game is so big that they can never find all these problems in QC they should release the next one as a Beta to a 1000 or so people to try to catch these things because that is an embarassing list of faults to have to admit shipping a game with.

I think just a straight up "too late" would be a more appropriate description for your situation seeing as how these fixes read as pretty much a list of everything in the game :P

Thank you Bethesda! I've waiting for this patch forever. I had the stupid save file corruption issues, and haven't played for a good three weeks because of it.

#28 Posted by SomethingClever (418 posts) -

I tend to play games with moral choices twice, once the way I want to play it (generally 'good') then go back and do all the fun evil stuff.  I was waiting for a patch before I go back in.  Once this has found it's way to my 360 I will gladly jump back into the Wastelands.  Though, I really should go back and finish up the Fallout 3 DLC too seeing as I bought it all but never played most of it.

#29 Posted by Undeadpool (4908 posts) -

My companions already fast travel with me and show up as waypoints. Does this mean the patch has already been applied to the Steam version?

#31 Posted by kollay (1926 posts) -

Just by skimming through the list does this mean that New Vegas is finally "playable" ?

#32 Posted by skrutop (3615 posts) -

Hope I get this for Christmas.

#33 Posted by runfaster21 (6 posts) -

I was having a lot of fun with this game until Veronica just disappeared. Haven't played it in weeks since that happened. I was just looking at trade-in value for this game on Amazon. I'll hold off until the patch. But if I do the patch and she doesn't come back, this game is getting traded in.

#34 Posted by Deathpooky (1374 posts) -

Isn't that pretty much every quest?

It's pathetic that they released such a broken game. I mean what the fuck, it's just Fallout 3's system recycled to add new story and quests. The basic mainframe should be stable.

#36 Posted by rm082e (197 posts) -

No faith after all the bullshit. I'll keep holding off until there is a good consensus the freezing is gone. Maybe next year...

#37 Posted by chilibean_3 (1621 posts) -

Great.  I'll be able to start playing again.  Now just to wait to make sure the update doesn't erase people's saves or other such none sense.

#38 Posted by sickVisionz (1268 posts) -

I'm glad they finally got the companion thing right.  I never had the issue and then it happened once and after that it seems like I can't go 30 minutes without a companion vanishing.

#39 Posted by Nadafinga (957 posts) -

The game left such a sour taste in my mouth, I'll have a hard time going back. I don't see any mention of them fixing the bug where hacking doesn't work if you've changed the default controls.  And my companion's weapon disappearing for no reason.

#40 Posted by Chop (1994 posts) -

Unfortunately, this game already lost me a month and change ago when my save imploded. It doesn't matter to me if they fix it at this point. I'm done and will never touch the messy piece of shit again.

#41 Posted by sickfallout (3 posts) -

Can't wait, this game is the ultimate timewaster on PC

#42 Posted by stinky (1543 posts) -

cool, should be able to find ED-E again.

#43 Posted by cstrang (2381 posts) -

Good, maybe when the patch drops I'll crack open my copy for the first time.

#44 Posted by nickux (1383 posts) -

The length of the list of fixes, especially to quests, is fucking disgusting. I love Fallout but this game should not have shipped the way it was.

#45 Posted by angryemu (79 posts) -

Awesome! That "weathered pistol" bug really bothered me. Every time I drew my pistol I'd be surrounded by a gigantic translucent red rectangular prism with a yellow exclamation point on the side.

Actually, now that I think about it... Maybe I don't want the patch. That bug was pretty awesome.

#46 Posted by Terranova (582 posts) -

Don't think this patch fixes the freezing at least it's not mentioned it does, what's the point in fixing quests etc if you can't play because the game freezes all the damn time.

And you know that The DLC shit will be just as buggy as the game on launch since it always is that way.
#48 Posted by shadyspace (457 posts) -

Nobody should have bought this game on principle alone. A broken pile of shit that a conscionable organization never would have shipped.

#49 Posted by Sharpless (457 posts) -

Thankfully, I bought Fallout 3 and New Vegas both at the same time, so by the time I'm done with (the, of course, buggy but fun) Fallout 3, New Vegas should be in the condition it should've been in on release day.

#50 Posted by HT101 (1151 posts) -

I will wait until they put a GOTY version of this out since they will be doing DLC for this game and will most likely have a GOTY edition anyway.  In the meantime, I can continue working my way through Fallout 3, whenever I get around to doing that.
