Well, that was fast: The window of Xbox Live exclusivity is closing on the first Fallout: New Vegas add-on this Feb. 22, 2011. Bethesda has just confirmed that "Dead Money" will be coming to PSN and PC on this date, and that three more DLC packs, all slated to hit in the coming months, will be released simultaneously across all three of the RPG's platforms.

The Bethesda blog entry about this news leaves much to be desired. No prices were announced, nor were other details about the three additional DLC packs noted.

From what I understand, Dead Money was a tad on the underwhelming side, as it pulled an Operation Anchorage and took away all of your equipment, and then didn’t offer much in return with its narrative or its unique items or enemies. That in mind, I have to ask: are you still up for more New Vegas DLC?

Oh god not DLC.

I'm totally up for Fallout DLC, but I will avoid Dead Money as everyone recommended.

This game is putting out dlc too slowly

#5 Posted by Bloodgraiv3 (2679 posts) - 2 years, 3 months ago

Im fine with DLC as long as its good, Dead Money had some interesting characters but...meh.

I don't get the Dead Money disappointment. I loved it. S-ranked the game a couple nights ago, totally ready for more DLC.

I don't know who your source is but the narrative and the characters were exceptional, enough so that I could forgive the poor gameplay and the punishing difficulty.

Cool, Brad's guessing what the last DLC was like.

The Burned Man has to be coming in a future DLC.  They put too much setup into that character to not have him show.  The way all of Caesar's camp talked about it, I actually kept expecting to run into him in the main game.

Hope so as well.  He was one character I was hoping to see.
Hope they keep fixing bugs as well.

Unfortunately I am done with this game, probably going to sell it tomorrow actually.

Dead Money didn't particularly cater itself to what I liked about Fallout but I still greatly enjoyed my time with it.  I'm always up for an excuse to put that game back in for a bit so I hope there is more DLC.

#13 Posted by FiestaUnicorn (1551 posts) - 2 years, 3 months ago

I'm all for more DLC as long as it's better than Dead Money.
#14 Posted by Branthog (7047 posts) - 2 years, 3 months ago

I'm still waiting for the "all clear" signal that it's okay to start playing New Vegas on Steam. Last I checked, Fallout 3 is still giving people major fucking headaches just to get it to run without crashing, after two and a half years.

#15 Posted by Nomin (870 posts) - 2 years, 3 months ago

Wonder if they would have any more set on resolving some of the Courier's back story.

#16 Posted by Chris2KLee (2253 posts) - 2 years, 3 months ago

Might pass on Dead Money, but I am interested in what the other DLC might be. Almost surely one will allow you to drop back into the game after the end credits and continue to mess around in the game.

I got kind of excited when it said the DLC pulled an Operation Anchorage. Say what you will about that particular DLC pack it had some amazing glitches such pulling weapons out of the simulation that had 999999 condition and the infinite hat chinese stealth suit... this doesn't sound like that tho.

@Branthog:
this was never much of an issue on PC, and any issue that did exist was fixed shortly after release for PC.  the major issue was on consoles.  purchase away.

I want more patches.

Man if there is one game that doesnt need more content, its new vegas. Even though i've clocked more then 100 hours in it already, i still have plenty of quests and three different endings left. Now that's something you dont see very often in RPG's nowadays.

#21 Posted by OneKillWonder_ (1107 posts) - 2 years, 3 months ago

I'm totally ready for more DLC. Dead Money was actually fantastic. It felt more like a great homage to old-school survival horror games. The characters, story, and atmosphere were all superb. While it was challenging, it wasn't nearly as annoying or frustrating as everyone makes it out to be.

#22 Posted by StrainedEyes (866 posts) - 2 years, 3 months ago

I owned New Vegas for a few weeks and the hard-locks got worse and worse as I played. I managed to get to the end and as I tried to play each ending it just became unplayable, so I sold it for something not broken.

Halfway through the game I was very excited about the prospect of DLC and making my character awesome. I really enjoyed the changes they made from Fallout 3 and the setting is great, but it is frustratingly broken and I couldn't have been more disappointing.

#23 Posted by JustinSane311 (335 posts) - 2 years, 3 months ago

I just pick up new Vegas about a week ago and the game seems to lock-up sometimes in VATS mode.  It's a shame because the game is really fun and interesting.  I'll probably pick up the DLC when it goes on sale as a Deal of the Week

#24 Posted by HilariousDoubleEntendre (38 posts) - 2 years, 3 months ago

Dead Money is getting a bad rap. It's a solid expansion. It certainly isn't of the quality of Broken Steel from F3, but it doesn't seem very fair to compare this to Operation: Anchorage. You're introduced to some pretty interesting characters along the way, and the narrative is fairly solid and you're given some pretty neat weapons and armor. On that note, finding the Assassin Suit for my stealthy character was a pleasing bonus as well. If this DLC hits $5, there really isn't a reason NOT to purchase it if you're a Fallout fan.

And I'm curious about the next packs as well. Safe to assume the Burning Man will be introduced, but at what point will they open up the western part of the grid? It's about a third of the size of the world map and completely blank. Step it up, Obsidian!

#25 Posted by Seanakin66 (139 posts) - 2 years, 3 months ago

Bought the CE on Day One, played it a few hours and since then...I'm okay with waiting for a GotY.  Maybe by then the original game will have been fixed.  Not holding my breath.

#26 Posted by Ravenousrattler (1417 posts) - 2 years, 3 months ago

fuck i still need to beat dead money, too many games not enough time

#27 Posted by flannelbeard (111 posts) - 2 years, 3 months ago

there are way to many games these days and lots of dlc on top of that. i will get it eventually but not now. i don't even have time to play all the games I already have :-/

#28 Edited by sofacitysweetheart (3181 posts) - 2 years, 3 months ago

Just give me a game that isn't broken that I can enjoy. Thx. Love & kisses.

#29 Posted by Nadafinga (831 posts) - 2 years, 3 months ago

I am completely steering clear of anything having to do with this broken ass game.

#30 Posted by ballsnbayonets (149 posts) - 2 years, 3 months ago

i hated the gameplay changes in dead money i liked the new items i mean come on BAR is awesome and gold buillion but not worth ever playing again like on a dif char. i hope the next one has some replay value

#31 Posted by perilator666 (415 posts) - 2 years, 3 months ago

I've completely given up on Fallout ever being good again.

#32 Posted by TheGreatGuero (9067 posts) - 2 years, 3 months ago

I probably should have just waited for the Game of the Year edition. I'm still trying to finish Fallout 3, and haven't even loaded any of the DLC in that game yet. I'm still predicting I'll need at least 2 more years to finish Fallout 3. At least!

#33 Posted by SomeJerk (2079 posts) - 2 years, 3 months ago

..they couldn't afford a full year of exclusivity? Bethesda's wisening up? Effin yay either way, the game is much better off with the patches that have come since last..

#34 Posted by DiscoDuck8k (493 posts) - 2 years, 3 months ago

I loved Fallout 3, bought all the DLC packs for it as soon as they came out.

Strangely enough after finishing the main game in New Vegas I had no desire to play the DLC. It was a good game, I just didn't want more of it. Might download them once there's a big sale or something, otherwise no.

#35 Posted by fwylo (3556 posts) - 2 years, 3 months ago

I don't get it.  So they aren't fixing the bugs? Only putting out DLC which probably is just adding to the bugs?

#36 Posted by dsd21 (127 posts) - 2 years, 3 months ago

I'll wait for all the DLC to come out and then will replay the main game + additional content.

#37 Posted by dfox (26 posts) - 2 years, 3 months ago

Hopefully they decide to work on patches while making all these DLC's.

#38 Posted by captroy (30 posts) - 2 years, 3 months ago

I really liked Dead Money - I was kind of surprised at the negative reaction. I enjoyed sneaking around - it sort of reminded me of the Thief games in a way, where you're trying to avoid attracting too much attention. Dealing with the radios was like shooting out lights and torches.

As far as more New Vegas DLC goes, they could release one every month and I'd buy them. There are so many stories that they can tell in the universe that might not lend themselves to being a full-blown game. I thought Alan Wake could have done the same sort of thing - I'm disappointed they seem to be done with it.

#39 Posted by Redharlow (46 posts) - 2 years, 3 months ago

More patches and more DLC. I'll buy whatever one's they put out. I like to get maximum value out of my Fallout.

#40 Posted by Tacoboy1986 (143 posts) - 2 years, 3 months ago

They need to increase the level cap quick! Thats really the only reason I picked up Dead Money. Seriously, only five levels! They couldn't give me a full ten!

#41 Posted by steelknight2000 (379 posts) - 2 years, 3 months ago

The actual gameplay in Dead Money was pretty underwhelming, but the story was still compelling enough for me to keep playing especially the way they foreshadowed forthcoming DLC.

#42 Posted by hpv (176 posts) - 2 years, 3 months ago

I'll be doing the same thing that I did with Fallout 3: wait until the GOTY edition comes out next fall and drops to $30 so I can pick up all of the DLC cheap and still be able to resell it once I put the game to bed. The base New Vegas game should easily last me that long.

#43 Posted by Geekcore (81 posts) - 2 years, 3 months ago

I'm down as long as it's better than Dead Money. I'm sick of playing crappy DLC (gotta keep the S-Rank). I'm going to wait for the reviews on the upcoming DLC. But I like any excuse to load up any Fallout game.

#44 Posted by Everyones_A_Critic (6074 posts) - 2 years, 3 months ago

I would play more DLC, provided it doesn't suck utter dick like Dead Money did.

#45 Posted by ClamFTW (40 posts) - 2 years, 3 months ago

If you buy this, skip the content and keep the level cap. Please. For sanity's sake.

#46 Posted by Korolev (1354 posts) - 2 years, 3 months ago

As much as I love New Vegas and the Fallout Universe,  I was burned on the DLC for FO3. Only Broken steel was worth the price they asked. I'll wait for all of them to come out, wait for a drop in price and wait for a review on which DLC is the best.

Making DLC for any game is pretty hard - most DLC turns out to be worthless. In recent memory, only Undead Nightmare, Shadow Broker and Broken Steel turned out to be any good. Other expansion packs or DLC stuff, even for great games, turned out to be.... well... less than great. I'm looking at you MW2 Map Packs and Civ5 "extra" civilizations.

#47 Posted by sizu (391 posts) - 2 years, 3 months ago

The Fallout games appear to be impossible for me to finish.  Just can't get into them at all.

#48 Posted by TorMasturba (1000 posts) - 2 years, 3 months ago

I actually really like Operation Anchorage, sure it was wedged under the fallout 3 door and very linear compared to the rest of that game but it did "spy mission" narative very well, and then progressed into a "scout mission" just as well, with a team of allies.
The ending was good too.

I think I must be the only person that did like it. The DLC was especially good for achievements.

#49 Posted by Nick_D (2 posts) - 2 years, 3 months ago

I am up for new Fallout quests, but I don't like downloading stuff so I'll wait for it to all be available on a disk. Hopefully seperate from a GOTY edition as I'm not buying the game again. Already got it on 360 and not even finished. So any expansion can wait. New Vegas is good, but Fallout 3 felt fresher which kept people playing longer. I've heard of a lot fo people who got burnt out playing New Vegas half way through.

Really looking forward to the next one running on the skyrim engine.
