Plenty of people have expressed concern over the next Fallout title New Vegas. Most of the complaints are that it doesn't look dissimilar enough to Fallout 3. The Hardcore mode which features an overall harder experience was revealed the other day. Other new features were revealed as well (such as the companion wheel). Are these changes enough to get you excited or have you had your Fallout fill? Here's an article of the new features that were revealed not too long ago if you are interested.
This shouldn't be in general discussion as you may have guessed.

Is Hardcore Mode Enough to Get You Excited
" I'll give it a try but I really couldn't care less if it wasn't part of the game.I wish the mods looked that good.
My only concern is this:
It looks like a mod of Fallout 3. A bad mod. "
And that has to be from an earlier build, they wouldn't overlook something like that.
" Hardcore mode is something for the real enthusiasts. The problem is making people real enthusiasts of the game. And the game not being simular to F3 loses a lot of potential enthusiasts. I just used the word enthusiasts 3 times in one sentence. Thats pretty rare. "That was three sentences, not one.
it being more fallout, and the fact that its being made by the original fallout devs make me super excited, hardcore mode just adds to that
As someone who is on my fifth play through of fallout 3 I am happy to have more of the same. As for hardcore mode, I'll be using that on my first play through.
" anything oblivion makes is shit. and this is going to be shit. and i know people are going to try to convince me otherwise, and i welcome them to do so. i hope you can. but from what i have seen everything they make is crap. "You don't know what your talking about do you?
The only thing I'm tentative about Hardcore Mode is ammo having weight. Enemies got so tough in Fallout 3, even ones that you'd randomly encounter, I was real glad I could carry around so much. That aside, it sounds great. I was always bugged by all the useless food in Fallout 3.
" Too much like fallout 3? Sounds like day one purchase to me. "I agree, but remember, the day consumers start buying sequels for being "like the original, BUT" is when creativity dies and the publishers ultimately win. Fuck, it's already happening to the CoD series.
I was interested before I knew about Hardcore mode. The Fallout franchise has always been good to me.
Except for that abomination on PS2. That was awful.
For me that's the best part about hardcore mode. Fallout 3 got too easy because I had an almost unlimited amount of ammo very early in the game." Hardcore mode sounds intriguing, but it's not enough to get me interested in another 3d Fallout. Hated Fallout 3, and this looks like more of the same.
Only people who liked Fallout 3 will like New Vegas. It's as simple as that. The graphics will still not be great and the shooting will probably still be janky. But people like me who weren't bothered by it's faults are totally pumped for this game. Personally I am totally stoked for hardcore mode. It will give me even more reason to go back and play through over and over like I did in F3.

I just used the word enthusiasts 3 times in one sentence. Thats pretty rare. "Whaat? This is like exactly like Fallout 3. They barely changed a thing. This is less of a leap than Oblivion to Fallout 3. I would have preferred something new. The idea that all that's really going to be different is the location, well it already gives me that 'dead inside' feeling that games give you after you play them for too long.

Difficulty wasn't one of my issues with FO3 so Hardcore mode has zero interest for me. My complaints were the shoddy main quest, but Obsidian has great writers and made a game with some one of my favorite stories and characters (KOTOR2) so I think they'll fix that. Gun mods, companions, multiple skills affecting dialog and everything else they are adding are nice touches. I hope they crank of the level cap to where it either extends past what you could get doing everything on the disc or at least goes up to it.
That's my only real complaint. It felt like I was playing that game forever but I remember two stopping points: when I hit the level cap for the disc and when I hit the level cap on Broken Steel. When RPGs stop letting you tweak and progress your character they lose about 75% of what I play them for. I hope they don't do that for FONV.
No, more of Fallout is all I need, and I trust Obsidian to make a very good game with enough tweaks, many already revealed, to make a very entertaining game. Fallout 3 was an aquired taste for me...took me many months to really appreciate, but damn that game resonated with me so much over time, and i really think Vegas will be as addictive, or more maybe.
I'm still pretty excited but yeah, I agree that with the same engine you're going to get the same problems.
If someone sat down and played the first three hours of Fallout 3, they'd obviously have no idea of the jank. I'm talking weird clipping issues, characters spazzing out, quest bugs, you guys know the drill. Of course you keep playing beyond that because it's still a lot of fun. But you know, at the start of that game, played in the right low lighting and in a comfy chair, I feel like I am the character. This is a quality that's addictive, engaging, and reminds me of how I used to play video games at three years old.
The point is that with every weird thing that happens, that feeling dissipates. Suddenly you don't care as much about the immersion anymore. My hope is that Vegas with the hardcore mode brings me back into the character's shoes and keeps me there.
why is everyone being to picky over the use of the same engine? sure it has the same engine, and sure it is using a few of the same skins, but big fucking deal! many, MANY sequels use the same engine as the predecessor, and the skins so far i have seen them re-using were among the better skins to begin with, like the leather armour and basic super mutant. The simple fact of the matter is, this is a whole new game, with a good number of core changes to gameplay, a new story, and a new location. It will be similar to Fallout 3 but shouldn't a sequel be similar anyway? If you liked Fallout 3 you will like this, if you didn't, chances are you won't like new vegas either.
on another note, yea im hyped for hard core, gunna do it on my 2nd playthrough though.
these are early development shots tho. detailing and fine tuning the environments are pretty much the last thing they do. its probably an alpha shot.
why are they a bad idea. developers release early shots all the time. usually with notable changes been made once the final release screens hit. the game is still in development period so we have no idea what the final product will look like. and the game probably wont have a final release version until about a month or so before its release. dont judge a book by its cover. developers release terrible screens all the time. look at capcom. they released a screenshot that was just the black time screen that said "12:00pm" for dead rising.
