Yes, I know. I just couldn't stop myself from taking a bite at them.
Same exact thing happened recently with Team Fortress 2 I really dont know how these things get through testing
Come on. This was on the forums for some time. It seems a bit off when you see news on the forums before you see it from journalists.A regular user can notice the problem and post a topic within 2 minutes. A journalist has to research the problem, make a couple calls and then write a full article. Not to mention, Patrick has clearly been busy writing a lot of other stories as well.
Jesus, people need to stop complaining about the news on this site.
Again, it seems a bit off when you see the news on the forum first, and not on the news part of the site. Besides, given that the forum post probably linked to another journalist, it feels weird that this wouldn't be on the front page first.
Damn, glad I read this. I literally was about to go boot up new vegas right now to play, and I would have certainly installed it. Yikes!
I've still not played this game because of the issues it still has. This sure helps me keep it out of the console for a bit longer.
I don't get how it can make it any buggier than it already was. I had the game completely crash on me about 40 hours into the game, and I got to this point where I was always incumbered, no matter how few items I was holding. Some mission markers just constantly stayed on the screen despite the fact that the missions were done. I just don't get why they thought that product was ready to ship when it did. Someone done fucked up and ruined Fallout for me with that game and I'd be really hesitant to ever buy another Obsidian product again...though I guess that's not really going to be an issue anymore.
The patch for the patch is now live in EU, i'm not sure about NA or the rest. If you have downloaded the bugged title update then i highly suggest that you delete it (In the Fallout: New Vegas folder - 8mb) and then clear the game cache afterwards, just in case.
I had none game crashes with the new (bugged) patch, 15 hours in, but when they released the fixed one i got two in couple of hours. I'm not sure if this is related to that i did not delete the bugged one first, since i assumed it should overwrite the TU #3 in the game folder. So now i've deleted the patch again and cleared the game cache and redownloaded the TU #4, hoping that it wont freeze more, or not that often.

"You realize this was in no possible way Obsidians fault? It was Microsofts fault. The bugs that New Vegas had were also in Fallout 3, and have since been patched out in both games.
What I don't get is why the patch is still live. I just started the game, and they are STILL pushing the patch to people. That's just messed up.
I would think a nice little call to Microsoft from Bethesda would just get it deleted of Live's servers, but I guess Microsoft doesn't have a special 1-800 # for developers to reach them in emergencies like this!!
Just tried it out a little earlier, there is a new patch. So far the only difference is I'm not getting the DLC error text. Rest of the game seems the same with the troublesome hard freeze especially when going to buy things from gun runners, apparently something that's there isn't agreeable with my save game on one character. Oh well as I was there to just collect the guns I didn't find in the wild.

But on the Fallout tip, Bros at Obsidian need to check that code a bit closer next time.Or blame the intern, cause you know there was an intern involved at some point.
I still haven't played this game due to all the game freezing glitches I've heard about. Guess I'll never play it. Sigh.
" I still haven't played this game due to all the game freezing glitches I've heard about. Guess I'll never play it. Sigh. "Honestly, I've been playing it for a couple of months, and it's not that big of a deal. You'll occasionally have to reboot, but if you save as often as you're supposed to, the positives far outweigh the negatives. If it were almost any other game, I'd agree with your desire to skip it, but Fallout 3 and New Vegas are both worth the occasional headache. In my opinion, it's not worth depriving yourself of a great game, just to avoid occasional lock-ups.
Ugh. I wish that Bethesda hadn't given Obsidian Entertainment a shot at the Fallout franchise. I know that Obsidian has a lot of veterans who worked on previous Fallout games, and I don't mean to be a jerk about this, but I have never played an Obsidian game that wasn't a buggy piece of crud.
I'm not exagerating either. Knights of the Old Republic 2 had a mediocre storyline, plotholes, framerate issues, and loading bugs that once cost me three hours of my obsessive compulsive life. There were five or so cutscenes in a row, each one with a loading screen before it, and each loading screen had at least a 50% chance of freezing my game. Looking back on it, I don't know why I didn't give up after the first hour. :-D
Neverwinter Nights 2? Memory leaks, framerates problems, terrible pathfinding, a puritanical viewpoint on sexuality and clothing that made belly dancers dress as if hell had frozen over, and so on. I never even bothered to buy the expansions. I honestly couldn't see the point.
I wish I could say that they did better with their own intellectual properties, but Alpha Protocol was a hopeless joke of a game. Honestly, how did they get the go-ahead to make Fallout: New Vegas? I've put off buying the game until Bethesda fixes most of the bugs for Obsidian, and I'm starting to think that such a thing is never going to happen. There are just too many to cope with, and I don't think there is enough interest left in the product for Bethesda to waste much more time on it.
So yeah, ugh. I actually felt really annoyed when I heard that Obsidian had the license to A Wheel of Time. The moment I saw that news update, I immediately gave up on the franchise's video game future. Obsidian's track record is just too consistently awful for me to have any hope.
As much as I adore Fallout, I've had it with this game.
I bought it pre-order and, after having completed everything in the wasteland before entering The Strip, I ran into a game-breaking glitch. If you know the game, DO NOT COMPLETE VAULT 11 BEFORE HEADING INTO THE STRIP! The robots in Vault 11 are faction linked to the ones that guard the Lucky 38 and if you attacked and made hostile the ones in Vault 11, the ones in front of and inside the Lucky 38 will be hostile to you. Basically this means, no Mr. House quest lines for you - at all.
When they had the first patch in December, as far as I know, they did not fix this. If I want to complete the game, I must start it over at the beginning.
Consequently, I have been unwilling to do that and now I'm glad I didn't with this new patch bullshit.
A friend of mine who's never played Fallout picked the game up because it is now $20 brand new (gee, I wonder why?) and I told him to take it back and spend the extra $20 to get the Fallout 3 GOTY edition.
So far, no complaints.
I just bought the game about two weeks ago. And like a dumbass, I downloaded that bad patch. Things started to go wrong.
After downloading the patch that fixed the patch, the game became worse. Graphical artifacts started showing up. A rad scorpion looked like an egg all rolled up on itself with pretty colors. When crouching, the textures on my gun would appear on the top of my screen and eventually cover the whole screen.
I tried to take the game back, but I bought it new so no go. The dude at the store gave me another copy just in case and at least it had the preorder stuff included.
I went home, deleted everything Fallout: New Vegas, cleared the cache, reinstalled the game, downloaded the latest patch and started from scratch. So far so good, I like the game, hope I can continue to play it this time. Fingers crossed.
I installed the patch today, I haven't been online in a few days because i'm decorating my house and had everything unplugged, so i wasn't up to date with everything. I thought i'd have ago on Vegas, got the update, kept crashing with my save about 2 hours from the end game and 50 hours in. I was about to delete my saves, but i thought i'd check GiantBomb and thankfully found this thread. On my previous saves i found that i had no HUD, game saves worked but crashed on ENTRY/ EXIT doors or fast travel, no damage counter and stats drained.
