Vault 11... whoah.

I don't want to be spoilery but I strongly encourage everyone to visit Vault 11. I had to rest for a moment and stare at the wall after I finished exploring it.
It was completely disturbing.

@ryanwho: Right? I remember when that thing happened... Ohhhhhhhhhh MAN! Vault 11 is F'ing F'ed out the Ffffffface. But seriously though, radiation and toilet water.

If you make a thread titled "Vault 11" and someone comes in and gets Vault 11 spoiled then it's their own fault.

Ok, SPOILERS

So, first you walk in and there's this tape and you pick it up and there's like 4 or five people talking.
They know something, something suspicious and they are not happy about it.
Then, someone says, "So, are we gonna do it?" and everyone agrees., "Yes, yes..."
Suddenly, this one guy speaks up and exclaims something like "No! No I don't think this is a good idea..." and then you hear blam, blam, blam, blam!

As you continue your exploration of the vault, you notice that there's hundreds of election campaign posters for Overseer everywhere.
Dead bodies are strewn about and you are led to believe that an inner vault battle has occurred.
You pick up more information and soon discover a note or something that says that elections will no longer be acceptable and there will be a random lottery for the next Overseer...

and that's as far as I'm going.

Yeah, they adapted the story The Lottery into a vault. There are also references to Most Dangerous Game and Lord of the Flies in there. Obsidian payed attention to 11th grade english.

Vault 11 is like a dark and twisted short story. Classic Fallout stuff.

For anyone who cares but doesn't want to play the game, here's the entire rundown:

The Vault mainframe instructed them to sacrifice someone in a secret chamber beneath the Overseer's office every year. They elected the Overseer specifically for this task (explaining why most of the campaign posters are trying to get someone else elected than the person who posted them), when you find the secret and go down there, you're treated to a short film about the inevitability of death, then attacked by a fairly large mob of killer robots. After subduing them, you can access the mainframe where you hear the four people from the beginning of the vault say they're not going to sacrifice anyone anymore and the vault then congratulates them on valuing the sanctity of human life. They then commit suicide from the shame. It's pretty fucking heavy.

11th grade English? Things are going downhill.
Point is, they used such underlying themes from 2 short stories and a kid's book, along with a bunch of other shit expertly in a game format.
The long walk down the hallway and then the video under the Overseer's office with the surprise reveal at its conclusion was where it really excelled.
I guess you could say that last part was totally adapted from the Jabba surprise scene in Return of the Jedi. Wow. Little ideas from everywhere.

Very entertaining little side story in FO:NV. It was fun finding and piecing together the story. I'd love to find the lone survivor and have a conversation for more :).

Wow, that was really neat. At first I didn't think it was anything special, but the walk down the bright hallway and the video were really neat. I was especially freaked out when the video went completely black after the narrator finished, the doors on either side slowly opened, and I got decimated.

This is the only vault in the game that I liked, the others are decent but there isn't more lore in those vaults. Plus the sacrificial chamber caught me off-guard and I barely escaped that part.

Found this when I was just looking around places I havnt been yet. Was kind of suprised it wasnt a side mission of its own it was really good.

Yeah I loved this bit...this is why I think this game will be better remebered in time. There are so many interesting examples of story telling all over the world which you can only really experience on a 100 hour plus playthrough which reviewers don't have time for.

The horrible part was...

That the Vault Overseer did not have to sacrifice himself at all, or send anyone to die...The Vault mainframe was just testing whether people would just follow orders like a sheep or make an unified stand of better and humane judgement against an obviously heinous directive. If the vault resident refused to send down anyone, that would've been just that, the mainframe would then reveal its demands as just a ruse and the residents will be free to lead normal lives. But people unfortunately chose to follow the questionable order to a T, and for generations had sent down overseers as sacrificial lambs while divided amongst themselves into different blocs of self-interest and survival until one elected female decided to just adopt a lottery based system wherein a person randomly chosen would be sent down instead of the overseer. The last remaining four learned about the true intentions of the vault experiment, and out of shame and guilt decided to commit suicide. This section, for me too, was one of the most memorable in New Vegas.

The best bit was when one of the robots was randomly allied to Mr. House and killing it failed all further missions for him, forcing you to reload. Oh wait no, that sucked. I agree it was a good quest other than that though!
