So I got a fancy version of the M-700 sniper rifle that I got via a DLC pack because I got the Wal-mart version of the game. Anyways.... my usual setup is Assault Rifle, Shotgun , RPG-7 and Sniper Rifle. I think that readily covers all bases Long stealth weapon, short range weapon for taking down animals etc... So is there really any reason I would want a bow over a sniper rifle that has actual benefits outside of just being fun to shoot people with a bow? Because the Sniper rifle at this point seems infinitely more useful (and has more range). I wouldn't mind taking a bow BUT I just can't help feeling that I'm limiting myself by using it.

The third installment in the series sees a reluctant victim battling nature, pirates, and the island's insanity-inducing jungle to rescue his friends and family from an island paradise gone horribly wrong.
Is there ANY reason why I would want to use a Bow over the Sniper
You can use the fire arrows and the explosive arrows with the bow so there's something else it does. I just got the better sniper rifle with the silencer and it does seem pretty great but ultimately I love just going Rambo on people's asses with the bow. The sniper is easy to use but I like challenging myself with long range bow shots.
The only time I've ever really used a bow is when it's been required. During those hunt quests it kinda bothers me since, if I lose my arrows I'm fucked and you only get 5 for those missions. The hell is that crap?! I will say the later mission that requires the bow is pretty fun but that just stemmed from the nature of it. You know the one... that cool one. There, now it's spoiler free.

Well, if your talking practicality you can pick up shot arrows. If your talking in terms of fun, the bow makes you feel like a total badass. But both points are moot because you really should just be stabbing everyone.
This. To feel more badass! It requires more skill to be better with the bow.
@Demoskinos: Because "bow bow uh bow bow" . Snipers don't have a song like that.
i use assult rifle (with sight and suressor), bow (sight), lmg (extended mag and sight) and sniper rifle(supressor and sight).
the bow is silent with out the suppressor
the bow kills all enemy's exept heavy's no matter where you shoot them, okay well maybe not the foot, have not tried and see if it works there aswell but head, torso, shoulder, arms, hips, and legs. pretty much everything above the knees work. . the sniper rifle does not.
its cooler.
its more fun
you can pick up your arrows by just walking over them.
fire arrows.
arrows with Fucking hand grenades strapped to them.
its not a question of replacing the sniper with a bow. also the
i have really never used a shotgun or other special guns like the rpg unless it was required. and its extremely rare that i use the lmg since the only reason i have it is for when shit goes sour and i need to take down a heavy and im our of c4
assult rifle for missions sniper rifle for taking camps if i dont wanna go in close. but mainly the bow for everything with regular arrows its just so much fun taking out a sniper 300m away and guessing the drop and path it needs to take and up close it just as fun
I use the bow when I'm in closer range to guys for silent one shot kills and I get to pick the arrow back up. I only use the sniper rifle when I'm really far away.
@Animasta: you bring up a good point... But what if I don't back.... Eh, screw it when I get home I will rambow it ASAP. Just for you!
I thought of this the other day. There is no practical reason to use a bow over any silenced weapon. Doesn't have the range of a sniper rifle and I'm better off using an assault rifle at mid range. It's mostly just for style I guess. I always carry it with me regardless though, mainly because I don't know what to replace it with.
I don't have a silenced sniper rifle yet but even when I do I'll probably keep bowing at mid-range to conserve ammo.

@Animasta: that doesn't mean I have to bow down to the bow!
I'm pretty sure that's exactly what it means.
just like you bend down to big oil, so must you also bend down to big bow.

THAT WAS SWEEET!
@Demoskinos
YES!
You never lose ammo if you're good with shots, and just get them back from bodies.
It's a much faster weapon to use in scoped, while sniper rifle no matter how much you upgrade in skill tree is never as fast going into scope and can leave you in a prickly position.
It's a much better weapon for medium-to-close range, I only use sniper for really long range.
Also, fire arrows and explosive arrows.
Also, best use of a bow in a game. Tomb Raider and Crysis 3 will have a lot to live up to.
Also, you don't want to be Rambo?
@AssInAss: You can use the bow in Tomb Raider as a hookshot (Rope + Arrow), which I think is pretty cool.
When far away the sniper is good, but when you are up close, but not close enough for a take down, I use the bow. Pistols, sadly, are not that great.
It's very satisfying knowing that I only used so few arrows when getting a successful outpost.

Replace it with the grenade launcher, dude. Way more useful if you're already carrying a suppressed sniper rifle.
The real question is, why not use the RPG and GL40? Well, the AMR is a good reason, because the sound it makes is just glorious. Also, guys fly back from the impact like they got hit by a truck.
If I didn't spend at least $1000 in ammo liberating an outpost, I feel like I failed.
Throughout the game, I kept the bow with me, (normally Silenced Sniper, Silenced Assault Rifle, Bow ... and something else (flamethrower, often).
Towards the end of the game, I tended to swap to the bow for mid-to-short range silent combat... as you really don't need to be that accurate with the bow (any hit kills). But, eh... I mostly used for it for the challenge/fun aspect, using the other weapons for efficiency.
The 50.cal silenced sniper rifle in the last third of the game is the only thing needed for any long distance shooting, I cleared a camp from 150 meters away on top of a hill so I wonder if anybody with a bow could do better than that.

I went from using the Predator suppressed rifle straight to the AMR, which is unsuppressed. Does the regular, non-Signature version of that rifle have a suppressor option for one of the attachments? I never checked...if so, that is so awesome and I'll be using it when the DLC drops.

The rifle I'm referring to is the Z93 sniper rifle and you can mount a suppressor on to.
@Cold_Wolven: Oh sweet, thanks for the info. The AMR is the Signature version of that rifle, it's not suppressed but it does fire explosive rounds and does more damage. It can kill even heavies with one shot, and vehicles with one shot as well. The Z93 with suppressor may be more useful though, I'll have to check it out!
I switch back and forth. I like to challenge myself with a little rule I made up: I'm only allowed to have one completely silent weapon in my inventory at a time. Also, the bow is essentially three silenced weapons in one, although the fire arrows are still bugged on the PC version.
