For those of you that bought it already, how is it?
Fat Princess
Game » consists of 4 releases. Released Jul 30, 2009
The controversial Fat Princess sees the endless battle of red vs. blue comes to a fight between two kingdoms who have kidnapped each other's princess and are stuffing her with cake to make her rescue more difficult.
First impressions?
Loveing the game reminds me a bit of team fortress in a way but the servers are shit very hard 2 find a game atm
Online isn't working for me at all right now. But its fun learning the ropes in the single player thus far.
so the general consensus for right now at least is that although there are connection issues it is fun as hell?
I'm really loving it so far, all the classes are pretty well balanced and the matches seem to last longer than I thought they would. All the classes actually feel like a necessary part of the team. The only problem I can find so far is it's pretty hard to find an online match at the moment
I really like it, if I choose jump in on the online i get a game every time, but find a game did not work earlier. It has just worked 3 times in a row for me in the UK. Loving the worker and priest.
Also i joined two games today that were 1 min away from being over!! Won both tho but felt cheated.
Great game so far.
Took awhile for me to get online but I was having fun. Very much like TF2 in an overhead perspective and controls are pretty good. If anyone wants to meet me online my account name is Metalsnakezero, just say you found me on Giant bomb so I know where you got my name.
I'm not horribly impressed so far. It just ends up being a seesaw back and forth clusterfuck in the middle of the map. Maybe in a few days when some strategy takes over it will improve.
" I'm not horribly impressed so far. It just ends up being a seesaw back and forth clusterfuck in the middle of the map."
Which is essentially what every Team Fortress 2 game is like. Everyone converging on a capture point with grenade and rocket spam coming from every direction. Yet people love that game to death.
Basically, this game plays almost exactly like TF2. Which means it will have the same ebb and flow. The same pros and cons. The same trappings. The same fun... Obviously it's different in that it's not a first person shooter, but that's about where the differences end. If you like TF2 you'll like this game. No doubt about it.
" It's really fun. I beat the story mode already, but I still haven't been able to connect to an online game. "
Btw, the only way i was able to get into the game is by using the "Find Game" option. DO NOT use the "Jump In!" option or whatever it's called. It's broken for some reason. Someone even made a tutorial video about it:

Hope that helps!
its soooo much fun...i beat the singleplayer in like an hours but online games last 30 minutes+
Add me yo, psn: Twinsin92
Personally, I haven't experienced that many online problems besides that it takes a couple minutes to connect to a game. Also, I did have to go out to Best Buy and get a PSN card for 20$ because I wasn't able to add any funds from my credit card.
Other than those set backs, I really enjoyed the couple hours I've put in so far. I've mostly played Team Deathmath but from the single Rescue the Princess match I played I definitely experienced the see-saw'edness mentioned earlier.

Oh yeah hit me up if you want to play: MasoutheAsian
The servers seem to be working a little better now. I have to say I'm starting to warm up to the whole thing. Now that I'm getting the hang of locking and switching between targets it's alot more fun.
Pretty much spent all day yesterday online, only failed to connect a couple of times. Reached Corporal rank, didn't even know there was a ranking system?
It's fun but like others say, the plague of the ps3 continues in that only 1-2 people talk. So there really isn't much strategy. The gameplay is fun, even if slightly repetitive.
But it's biggest issue for me is that theres no party system, was looking forward to following around and healing some friends but it's practically impossible to find them. A few of them aren't comfortable speaking globally, so we're stuck using vent while playing.
I'm digging it. I have to agree that if your side isn't working as a team that it can take a year and half to get through a stage. I do think that there is a bit of a learning curve when it comes to how to efficiently get around the level, attack, and strategize, but the more I play the more I'm drawn into this game. I hope that the online doesn't disappoint once the games been out for a while.
The game is very fun but suffers from a problem that most online games that rely on immense teamwork suffer from: A complete lack of teamwork. Usually this is nullified through the passage of time but you would honestly think by now that when people see/hear: "Class based multiplayer" they would be able to make the connection that this is going to be a game that requires a lot more teamwork to succeed than say, Counter-Strike as an example, where a single person can be the pillar of an entire team. That just won't happen in Fat Princess, and it won't happen in any good class based multiplayer. The class based part is to separate roles and the roles are divided so that no single one is the most important (arguable, of course) so that should say to most: "This game requires organization/teamwork," but I don't think it ever will click.
So that is my impression, really. Fat Princess is an amazingly fun game with a lot of potential and will likely hit that potential as more and more people learn, by trial and error, that you can't run off by yourself in this game and you need to work together nearly every step of the way. Fat Princess is a game that could easily stay relevent against the tidal wave of downloadable games because it is unique, intuitive, fun, and when teamwork IS in effect, it is one of the most rewarding experiences you can have. Not that anyone cares, but I plan to review it either later today or tomorrow depending on how much time I can get in with it today.
@ crono
I think what really hurts the teamwork on teams without headsets is that you can have an imbalance of classes. And because you have to pick you class from hats and it is hard to see what you other teammates are, you end up having a ton of workers and no one attacking. Too many attackers no one feeding the princess cake. If it was easier to tell what class your team needed at a certain point I think it would help. If you have this game add me PSN: Redsocks10
One thing my friend and I did to overcome the lack of PS3 Headsets was to join a party on our 360's and just use the headsets for the 360. Its pretty inefficient but it works if you just want to hook up with a couple friends.
mostly the game is great. the servers suck for now, but that's a temporary issue. the big problem with the game is the story mode, because the games (almost literally) never end. i just sat there for an hour attempting to capture the princess once. finally i just gave up. i mean online is awesome, but when you're surrounded by idiot AI trying to play a teamwork-oriented game, it's about as much fun as running a power sander over your face for an hour.
