Earlier this August, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment said that Day 1 Studios' F.E.A.R 3 had been delayed until 2011. Retailer listings at the time suggested that the follow-up would see an April release. Close, but no cigar. The actual release date, as WBIE has confirmed this afternoon, is March 22, 2011.

WBIE has also revealed a myriad of downloadable pre-order incentives spread out amongst three retailers: Best Buy, Amazon, and GameStop. And as usual, all three retailers are offering "exclusive" items that we all wouldn't mind having, but won't be able to get on launch day because who in their right mind reserves a game at three different stores. That said, the list is just below. Choose wisely.

Internet-based Amazon is offering the only non-DLC item: a 12-page prequel comic book (CPre-DLC?) written by Steve Niles.

    Best Buy
The big blue chain is offering a weapon called "The Shredder." Apparently, the gun gets its name from how quickly it shoots its "heavy metal shot rounds" which are all "mixed with nitrates."

    GameStop
GameStop is getting a weapon called "The Hammer," which is a .50 caliber pistol that does twice the damage of a normal one.

Oh, hey, it wouldn't be Halloween without a little Alma, right? I've been wondering how my baby mama been doing. Apparently, pretty good.

Would have like DLC that focuses more on impregnating teenage ghosts with your mind.

I feel like FEAR 3 is going to be horrendous, but at least that has lowered FEAR 2 to a price I was willing to buy it at.

    F*** DLC, and even more F*** Pre-DLC.

The only games that should ever have had DLC are Rock Band and Online shooters...and even those split the player base...

So my source says that an artist has been placed as the head of UI (user interface) rather than a UI lead. There may some interesting options when when trying to get into a online game. Instead of just pressing "A" or "x" to intermediately launch into the action, you be placed into a setup menu and launch isn't the first option your selector is on.

Yay on an actual release date for FE3R, not so yay on the preorder DLC. I never did like the whole different store equals to different DLC, more so when they then sell that back after a month anyway.

I wouldn't want to try it for the gameplay, but maybe if it's supposed to be really scary.

Hearing that it isn't being developed by Monolith Studios, I've completely lost interested in this game. I doubt that Day 1 studios is capable of bringing the same palpable psychological atmosphere and the tactical combat from original F.E.A.R. that made it so good. It looks like F.E.A.R. 2 with co-op, and it's still using a rather outdated graphics engine. Even if John Carpenter is directing the horror elements of the game, I also doubt his talents would successfully translate well into a video game. Not to mention, Day 1 Studios only real great game was the original MechAssault, and that is only due to the fact that they co-developed it by FASA Studios. This would explain why MechAssault 2 wasn't as good as the orignal, as FASA had almost nothing to do with the sequel. Fracture was also another underwhelming title from Day 1, as it was a rather generic shooter with an undeveloped and interesting gimmick to deform the geography.

I predict that this shall be an even worst game than F.E.A.R. 2. Meaning it would either be average or downright poor, as I view F.E.A.R. 2 as a solid to decent first-person shooter. The original F.E.A.R. is and will always remain as the best game in the series.

I know I am expecting too much...but this game may just suprise..

we must think like a family....okay.  well really,.... okay!

Alma does a good roll there. Family way and all.

I'll say a bit more. There were elements of Fear 2 that I thought worked. Absolutely rocked, but unfortunately much of the voice acting was bad. But there was genius in the cut scenes, and some of the story parts. Fear has always had a solid game play, so if they get that tight, and create a good story with the visuals I have in mind, it might be a compelling game.

FEAR 1 was fantastic. FEAR 2 was a joke is most areas, hopefully F3AR will be something special, but I doubt it.

FEAR 2 was an amazing game and probably one of my favourite FPS this gen.  It did a lot of things better than the first game but for some reason the weapon sounds weren't as good as they were in FEAR 1.  Still fantastic combat though.  I'm worried about this one, no Monolith means my interest is very low as Monoliths combat has a particular style and feel which only they can do, it's why I love their games so much.  Having the studio of Fracture of all things do this one makes me very nervous.

PUBLISHERS:"Wow COD is getting released in fall 2010, let's push our game to Q1 for some breading space". Sure, everyone let's all release our game in Feb/March, we have to since then ends fiscal year, so we all have to do it, all because of that damn COD."
Feb/March comes, and we get "Dead Space 2,  Portal 2, Killzone 3, Bulletstorm, Homefront , then Dragon age 3, Fear 3, Crysis 2,GR:future soldier, Test Drive2, Socom 4". More games then in November/december, makes no freaking sense. So many games will flop, who can afford all those games in such a short time period.

Good list. You forgot Rage, I think.  But I get your point:  the 2011 Q2 release window is killer. I'll be out of school by then, which makes me wonder if I'll be job hunting or just playing games in my undies 24/7...

Hrm, screenshot on this almost looks like it's Eli Vance from HL2. I just hope that the weapons are unique for this DLC & not just something that they are unlocking early in the game which everyone can get (like what they did with the DLC in Wolfenstein).
