I have two of them. Red and blue yet they sit is my inventory seemingly useless. I feel as if I'm missing something here. What do they do and are the other ones really hard to find?

@ImmortalSaiyan: Some people say that one of them hints at the solution to the monolith puzzle, and one of them could be used to help decode some of the symbols you see scattered around (I think, at least). But other than that, I haven't found any concrete use for them, and I've beaten the game.

Of course, I wouldn't be entirely surprised if they DID have some actual use that I just completely missed and would have saved me a lot of time or effort for something. I have an unfortunate tendency to do that.

    They're mostly useful as hints.

They act as clues that you can learn something in the location you found the artifact.

    Really? How so?

Also, for one of the artifacts (it was the third one I gained... it's a book and...

It allows you to access 'secret' doors, that have two squares overlapping each other on the right-hand, top corner if I recall correctly.

The fucking artifacts are useless garbage. Sure they make some sort of sense when you figure shit out (or look it up), but once you find out what that stuff means you'll become actively angry at the stupidity of them.

Any insight on the skull artifact in particular? I've got it and have absolutely no idea what it does.

I'm fairly certain you can do this with or without the Tome atrifact.

Yep, didn't need the Tome to do that.
