Fez Coming to the PCs on May 1

Posted by patrickklepek (6420 posts) -

Rumors about Fez escaping the confines of Xbox Live Arcade existed even before the game was released on Xbox 360, but it’s official: Fez will arrive on Steam on May 1.

Designer Phil Fish announced the news this morning on Twitter, and is currently answering questions about the port and Fez through an Ask Me Anything on Reddit.

Fez is coming to PC first, but will eventually be released on Mac, as well. Fish is also “working with Sony” about a possible Vita port, but can’t “100% confirm that yet.”

Fish also commented on what he’s been up to since Fez was released into the world.

“A lot of non-creative work,” he said. “I haven’t really ‘made’ anything since the game came out. a necessary evil, I suppose. But life has generally been really good!”

He also revealed something that is currently driving Jeff and I nuts: there are undiscovered secrets in Fez.

What?

Cool...I guess.

Again I say WTF Fez

Good news, crossing this off my PC-port wish list. Next item on the agenda is Dust: An Elysian Tail.

Yay, I will finally get to play this.

Cool, was waiting for a PC version. I wonder if Linux is something they'd be looking into as well. Wouldn't mind a 3DS version either.

Glad to see it's gaining more ground other than XBLA though, the more that get a chance to play Fez the better.

This is good news. I'm still interested in playing Fez, hopefully these versions will have fixed the problems from the original, but I guess we'll have to wait and see on that one.

Vita version would be particularly interesting, seems like it's an experience that would suit that platform well.

I'm over it but good on non Xbox users that will get to experience what all the fuss is about

#9 Edited by Branthog (5717 posts) -

I'm down for this. Just regret I bought it on XBLA (and never played it).

#10 Edited by kidIKD (54 posts) -

All I can think about (other than those undiscovered secrets) is how the puzzles that use vibration will work...a lot of Fez's design seemed pretty 360- or at least console-specific

#11 Posted by Draxyle (1938 posts) -

Count me in for the madness. Glad to finally see it hop platforms.

#12 Edited by hacksword (72 posts) -

I'd get this, except the only thing my computer can run is Microsoft Excel.

#13 Edited by Baltimore (343 posts) -

Even though i've played through the game already on Xbox I might have to pick it up on Steam as well. Beacuse...Fez. Also, it's bonkers that there's more to discover in that game. Oh god, please don't tell me there's a secret Dave Lang Zone level. I don't think I can handle any more Lang right now....

fish is working again? daaaaaaamn

Vita version would be awesome.

Vita??

That would be amazing. This is one of the few games I actually cared about on the 360 (I don't own one) so having it come to either PC or Vita would be amazing.

#17 Posted by weegieanawrench (1950 posts) -

Good news, everyone!

I don't think I'll play it again, but I'm over the moon that more people will get to experience Fez.

#18 Posted by jgf (402 posts) -

Sounds like a great vita game. That exactly the kind of game I would like to play on that system. Hope it'll be released there.

Now PC and Mac owners can also appreciate what a pretentious douchebag Phil Fish is.

Still haven't forgiven him for his moronic twitter rants and general arrogance. I find it impossible to enjoy FEZ anymore because I know it was made by such a massive twat.

Hooray! Finally. I have avoided all spoilers for this game so I'm ready to experience it fresh.

This will be great for my down time when I'm not making spreadsheets!

@seanfoster: Next item on mine is the xbox version of Spelunky, Trials Evo finally is coming out for steam, now if Spelunky does, I will be very very happy.

#23 Edited by Waffley (144 posts) -

Undiscovered secrets? Well fuck. Hopefully they aren't all suddenly discovered when the PC version comes out.

I must also stress that the experience of this game is the sense of discovery it creates. This is a game that you do not want to spoil with guides of any sort, because it will indeed tarnish your experience with the game.

Oh and while Phil Fish is an asshole, if his personality (which has no presence or reflection in Fez) is enough to ruin a game for you, you are far too sensitive and would probably live happier if you stopped playing video games. It's something that has been thoroughly discussed over the past year and needs no further dwelling-on.

Did the Xbox version ever get fixed? I'd 'finished' the game when the save bug was found and never went back because of it.

But yeah, good for everyone who didn't get a chance to play it yet. PC may be better for map navigation.

Best and most memorable game of 2012.

One of the very best games of this generation.

Highly recommended.

Go in blind.

Oh, really?

Fez is a console game, not a PC game,” he [Fish] states, emphatically. “It’s made to be played with a controller, on a couch, on a Saturday morning. To me, that matters; that’s part of the medium.” I get /so many/ comments shouting at me that I’m an idiot for not making a PC version. ‘You’d make so much more money! Can’t you see? Meatboy sold more on Steam!’ Good for them. But this matters more to me than sales or revenue. It’s a console game on a console. End of story

So, how about that Phil? Changed your mind? Weird how that goes.

The game seems good, but nope. I really can't stand Fish so I wont support him.

Nice, I've been wanting to play Fez again for a while but lost access to an 360.

@abendlaender: So people can't change their opinions? Or is it that they can't change it when you don't agree with them?

Listen, I'm drawing to mind something Louis CK once said which was something to the effect of: people always seem to think everything you say must be some well measured, thought out thing that takes everyones opinions in mind.

I think people should be allowed to say and think ignorant stupid shit and not be reprimanded for changing their mind.

Good for you on sticking to your guns on not buying the game though, I admire that.

Gotta wait a bit further for the mac port, but I'm uber glad it's happening! :)

Thought I would never play it

I'll be sure to never ever pay attention to anything he has said in the past or currently saying because I want to enjoy Fez for the first time on PC. Thanks for the warning.

Thank God, I won't have to turn on my Xbox again.

I would hope it supports the controller, game seems ideal for it and I'd hate to punch in the codes via lame ass keyboard :S Entering the konami code, and seeing how it's mapped to buttons that actually make sense, would be tough to re-configure just for the keyboard.

As a primarily PS3 user, I thought so too.

Unfortunately, now the aspect of discovering that "the game is so much more than you think it is" is somewhat diminished.

@abendlaender: Yeah, but money.

Well, that sounds like a perfectly good reason to do it. He made an amazing game, let him get his money.

Also there was a pretty big demand for a PC version so I can't see how that could be considered a bad thing.

#40 Edited by anamanaman (62 posts) -

So... this will be an MS Excel plugin?

#41 Posted by Ravenlight (8057 posts) -

I'd get this, except the only thing my computer can run is Microsoft Excel.

AAAAAAWWWWWW SNAP!

Perhaps sometimes it takes that kind of mind to create something like Fez.

After watching Indie Game: The Movie I feel for the guy, and am glad that it worked out for him. It is well known that the Super Meat Boy guys made a ton more money off Steam than off XBLA, hopefully Fish will have the same happen.

I don't think anybody sees it as a bad thing, it is just kinda hilarious to see how he badmouthed the PC when the game launched and now comes crawling back cause he didn't made that much money on XBLA. (or so I've heard)

#44 Posted by SilverTorch1 (72 posts) -

I don't remember much about it, but didn't the creator of Fez talk shit about how he intended the game to only be on consoles? I really don't want to give money to this guy, good thing I don't really care about the game.

#45 Edited by UberExplodey (980 posts) -

I don't like Phil Fish (fucking at all), but people should be able to play Fez on their platform of choice. I guess.

#46 Edited by Crunchman (417 posts) -

#47 Edited by Deathpooky (1519 posts) -

Nice. Have it on XBLA, but looking forward to impulse buying this on a Steam sale so I have an excuse to play it again.

#48 Edited by Roomrunner (1021 posts) -

Uhh, are twitter rants part of the game? Why should I care?

#49 Posted by SlashDance (1864 posts) -

@abendlaender: That's kinda petty though. I understand the sentiment, but still.

So I still don't need to own an Xbox. Good to know.
