    Old Review: Fight Night 2004

EA Sports : We never get it quite right.

    Lets get right to it.
    Game play:
TPC is what I think they are calling Total Punch Control. While I am going to name it - Total Piece of Crap.
For a control scheme that is supposed to be revolutionary... it is not. For something that would give you better more responsive (quicker?) control, it does not.

The reason behind this is not only do you point the control stick in a direction but you also have to so a motion, a curve to bring the punch up. it really so a step backward and I doubt we will see it again as it is now. If it were just one direction and not the motion of, it would be much much better.

As a stupid by product of the mangled TPC the blocking/evading system Does work extremely well with an analog stick, and for that you do need to press it in one direction for the effect... you don't have to throw a fire ball or re-learn your flaming uppercut.

Another horrible game play aspect is the computer AI is so bad I cant even believe it, Ive have two types of boxing matches and Ive played about 35 against all different boxers at varying difficulty levels. Two types of matches.

    1) computer never stops running from you - you spend the entire fight with your finger on the up (forward) button him the computer once or twice and then wait until your close enough again.
    2) computer almost doesn't move at all.

Online however this isn't a problem at all...
One final game play part I'm a little unsure about is that the directional pad uses the same control as we love so much from resident evil. (for those that don't know what I mean, read a review for RE,RE2,RE3,RE0)

    Graphics :
    Awesome.

    Sound :
    I love the announcer.
"Heres round 2 just for you and your mamma."
"That is a seriously Fat Lip!"

    Vaule :
I would of given this a 10 if I spend more time online with my ps2, but i don't and i never will until my ps(enter number here) can eat my computer and merge with it.

    Tilt:
I like boxing games always have.

    Thanks.

Knockout Kings is dead, and rightfully so.  It had many fans, but the button-mashing mayhem came to slow end last year when KK 2003 was only released on the GameCube.  EA completely scrapped KK and built a brand new boxing game from the ground up...and it's the best boxing game since...well...Super Punch Out?  Maybe that's not saying much, but Fight Night 2004 is a prime example of why Electronic Arts is the biggest and most successful third party developer in the business.  Not only are they c...
