Fighting Vipers released November 1996 in the US features 9 characters. Fast and action packed gameplay that could rival the playstations tekken release that was released late 1995.

Fighting Vipers, a more action oriented fighter from the creators of Virtua Fighter 2.

The game is set apart with two unique features. Most notably, each of the 9 characters featured in the game sports armor of some kind or another, this armor can be broken off by opponents leaving characters much more vulnerable and able to take much more damage, a human shaped meter in the top corners of the screen monitors the damage to your armor. Secondly walls surround each arena, caging the combatants in, allowing for attacks in conjunction with them (bouncing off etc), if the correct combination is hit at the round's finale, characters can punch their opponent straight through the walls.

The game also features a recover mechanic that allows for players to recover mid air and counter using aerial attacks, or simply fall faster to the ground where you can guard again.

Completing the game several times with each character unlocks new costumes.

In Japan, the Saturn version of Fighting Vipers had an additional unlockable character, Pepsiman, the Japanese mascot of Pepsi. He was removed from the US and PAL releases, probably due to Legal stuff.

Candy from Fighting Vipers was going to be a playable character in Sonic the Fighters as a cat version of herself.
But she was taken out of the game.
