    um...nice package

I remember getting the NES version for Christmas one year. I couldn't wait. My brother and I had snuck around and found it under a bed or something and played it before Christmas. Anyways, I was a huge fan of the original as well as the original Dragon Warrior (Quest). That said, I'm even a bigger fan of the Dawn of Souls remake.

Now those of you who are really hardcore retro gamers may not like the fact that they changed around a lot of things for Dawn of Souls. Graphics are completely overhauled, and look great, but continue the original aesthetic accurately. Leveling up is much easier , the magic system is overhauled, etc. etc.

Ok, so it's not a port, so it may not be for the purist. For the rest of us, it's awesome. Still the great game with much improved pacing, plus all the DoS extras, PLUS Final Fantasy II which I  played for the first time. I know a lot of people rag on FFII, but I don't really see why.  I happened to like the cast of characters and how one levels up.  If you have a character you put on the front line you gets hit with a lot of physical attacks, that character will gain stats to help defend against that.  Likewise, as you use magic or a sword, etc. more, you get proficient with it.  To me, it gives you an opportunity to customize your party even in minute ways.  Characterization actually comes into the storyline, and the stat-building system is very cool- i prefer it, actually to FF.

I had the FF Origins for PS1, but never really played it and finally sold it. It just didn't feel right using a CD drive in a Sony, you know. The GBA Dawn of Souls feels really right.

Half a package; half the challenge. 0

Packing two old-school Final Fantasy titles -- one which only recently made it to North American shores -- into a single cart seems like a great value. For the most part, it is, if only for newer players to experience where their favorite Playstation Final Fantasies came from. The big obstacle here is that Final Fantasy has become a little too easy, and Final Fantasy II retains its design annoyances, to the point that only the completely curious or nostalgic will get a real kick out of this pac...
