I know the NGP is stealing the buzz, but don't forget that PSP games are still slated to ship before Sony busts out its new-fangled handheld. Square Enix, for a good example, has just revealed plans to ship Final Fantasy IV: The Complete Collection to North America this April 19 and to Europe at some point this Spring, too.

FFIV: The Complete Collection boasts enhanced visuals for Final Fantasy IV, which has seen several re-releases over the years since its Super NES debut. The pack also contains every single episode of The After Years, the downloadable sequels to FFIV that hit WiiWare in North America back in 2009.

The announcement materials for The Complete Collection don’t mention a digital release, but they do have a price: you’ll be able to buy the collection for $29.99, a decent amount of savings in comparison since the full run of The After Years itself will cost you around 40 bones. Not too bad, eh?

This is my third time getting this quest.

Finally I'm going to play FF4. No joke, I haven't played it before so this'll be a nice opportunity.

#5 Posted by RE_Player1 (7526 posts) -

My favourite Final Fantasy game next to 6. I might pick this up since I haven't played The After Years.

#6 Posted by Kyodra (140 posts) -

I already bought the re-re-release on the GBA, I don't think I'm gonna buy a re-re-re-re-release.

While I have nothing against FF IV, it's been remade more times than any other early FF game.  Hopefully the next generation of handhelds will see FF VI remade.

This will most likely be a purchase for me, if only so I can experience The After Years. Loving the updated graphics in the style of the PSP releases of the first two Final Fantasy games in those screenshots, too.

#9 Posted by Undeadpool (4998 posts) -

Just...just give me a remake of VI already. That's all I really want.
Forget VII, you'll never ACTUALLY be able to make the fanboys happy. Just give me VI on the 3DS or wherever.

I'm going to buy this game again. I don't even want to think about how many times I've bought it. Enough to know I have a copy of the PAL and Japanese versions in storage.

Anyway, I really liked the look of the FF1 and FF2 remakes on the PSP and I can't wait to see this quest given the same treatment. Getting to play the After Years is fantastic too!

Call me crazy but it kinda looks like that world map screen shot is using the same texture set that they used in FFVI which is awesome!

#12 Posted by Tower_Junkie (2 posts) -

Totally gonna be buying FF4 for the third(?) time. And, I'm kinda excited about it.

Now people can truly appreciate just how terrible The After Years was: by seeing it alongside the masterpiece that is Final Fantasy IV.

@Video_Game_King:  i agree. those were truly the golden years!

They are still making PSP games?

If it's put on the playstation store for download, I'm all over this.

For people to pirate I guess...

Regardless if it's on the PSP, it looks nice.

That's pretty sweet

#23 Posted by gla55jAw (2697 posts) -

That's actually really cool. I enjoy my Final Fantasy I remake on PSP and have been meaning to pick up II, but IV is one I have still yet to play. Now I have to decide if I play it on PSP or DS.

#24 Posted by Sayishere (1840 posts) -

meh i rather play the remake on the ds

#25 Posted by Hailinel (25205 posts) -

The After Years isn't exactly what I would call great.  It has some neat ideas, but unless there are some significant overhauls in the PSP version, I don't see any reason to buy this release.

#26 Posted by SpicyRichter (556 posts) -

All I care about is a FFVI remake

#27 Posted by WinterSnowblind (7617 posts) -
@Hailinel: That's an understatement, the After Years is about on par with typical fan fiction, it's utter garbage.  My biggest complaint is making Ceodore the main character..  He doesn't really add anything to the story and only detracts from the characters we actually wanted to see more of.

If it was made for fans of the original game, they completely missed the point.. and if it was supposed to appeal to a new audience, it's stupidly inadequate.

That said..  Final Fantasy IV is still my favourite game in the series and if it's actually a complete version (i.e. includes the extra GBA content) then I'll likely buy it anyway.  I also here it has an exclusive costume for Dissidia 2.
#28 Posted by MisterMouse (3564 posts) -

probably wont get it, but if I happen to see it I might pick it up if it is only 30 dollars, havent played it yet anyways.

#29 Posted by cowdrunk (245 posts) -

even though this game is one of my favorite games from my childhood I think the 4 copies i already have is enough
#30 Posted by Renachan (137 posts) -

.........I guess I'm double dipping in the name of The After Years! Oh SE, why must you do this to me :( PSN download please since I'm quite happy with my ds version?

#31 Posted by briangodsoe (484 posts) -

I still need to finish the DS remake. Being the huge tool that I am for this game and not having played after years yet I'll probably buy it. For the third goddamn time...

Is it ironic that I would rather have this package on my cell phone? Surely somebody will throw up an 'ad supported' version on the wild west that is the Android marketplace.

So you're saying you'd rather pirate it?

Are you intentionally obtuse? Or does literally everything make you think of piracy? Go play your Wii.

It was a natural insinuation based on your statement.  Because unless that "somebody" were Square Enix, any version put up on Android would be an illegal copy.  So there you go.

You turned an after-post quip I added in commenting on how there's all sorts of crazy copyright breaking content on the Android marketplace into an insinuation that I would rather pirate this game than not. So either you're really not understanding what people write, or you're just being a dick. Chances are you didn't even catch that The After Years was originally a cell phone release.

I know it was a cell phone release.  But the way you worded it suggested, hey, fuck it.  I'll play it on my cell phone when someone tosses it up there.  If I misread, then I apologize.

The DS version is the definitive version.

Incidentally, I wish Square Enix would stop with these re-releases.

Only reason I clicked on this story was because I thought I saw FFVI, sadly my eyes had deceived me.
#40 Posted by JackSukeru (5967 posts) -

Don't care that much about this but I did play FF3 & 4 when they were remade for the DS. If they were to give a similar treatment to FFVI (Heard that V is whatever) for the 3DS I'd probably play that.

#41 Posted by ArbitraryWater (12123 posts) -

Let's count how many times Final Fantasy IV has been released, shall we?
Original SNES version
Easytype (Japan only. Just the US version)
Playstation 1 collection
Wonder Swan color (Japan only)
GBA
DS Remake
Virtual Console
I probably forgot something, so this takes a space too.
And now this thing. An enhanced port, with all the After Years stuff in for good measure. Apparently The After Years is horrible though.

#42 Posted by Skanes (107 posts) -

No thanks bro. I'm good.

#43 Posted by jschmoe (142 posts) -

This will be number 5 for me.  I'll only get it for the After Years stuff.  Great game and all, but I've bought it a lot.  Get to making better games.
I have

  •  the SNES original cart
  • GBA
  • DS remake
  • VC.
#44 Posted by Addfwyn (1947 posts) -

I'll buy it, see how much FF I can fit on my PSP after all.  Already have VII and VIII on there, why not toss in IV too.

#45 Posted by Dallas_Raines (2221 posts) -

Yeesh, who would ever pick this over the DS remake?

I completely agree. Square Enix needs to quit throwing us burgers and just put out the steak already...
#47 Posted by Mechanized (340 posts) -

Why does this game keep getting remade? So many good Final Fantasies could be remade. 5, 6, 7. Especially 6. The GBA version is great, but it's the title most deserving of a full HD console remake. Instead of remaking great games they just put out shit like 11, 12, 13, 14, Agito, Versus, whatever etc.. Stop making new crappy games and remake your classics and see why they're considered classics. Hopefully it would inspire them to make a modern classic instead of the fucking garbage they've been spewing out after 10.

#48 Posted by sopranosfan (1935 posts) -

they need to put FF 1-9 on either 1 or 2 Blu-ray collections and they will make a fortune off of it.  They don't have to remake them just put them on a disc or two.  I've got Final Fantasy games on so many systems I have to think of which one they are on when I decide I want to replay a certain entry.  Make it so.
#49 Posted by Godwind (2596 posts) -

Another reason for me to buy a PSP.

#50 Posted by 3clipse (10 posts) -

Oooohhh...Minecraft for the PSP would be awesome. Until then....someday I will finish a final fantasy game. Maybe.
