I don't like Final Fantasy VIII at all. It's one of my least favorite, if not, least favorite Final Fantasy game. I was happy to see a internet reviewer called SpoonyOne to criticize and bash the game, by pointing out it's obvious flaws in the gameplay and story. I thought they were pretty funny series of reviews, even if the humor was forced and often juvenile. However, in one of the later parts of his review of FFVIII, he says: "Final Fantasy VIII sucks and you suck for liking it!" I think he went too far with that line. Even thought I don't like the game, I wouldn't attack others for liking it. It just makes you look as bad as the Final Fantasy fanboys for doing so. 
  
Now I know what a lot of you are going to say: "But it's just a joke. No it is not a joke, but a rather petty insult. It's not funny in any way at all. However, I'm surprised he manage to get a lot of support, and many of his mindless followers agree with that statement. Which I find ironic, considering he constantly lampoons Final Fantasy fanboys. 
 
Does anyone else think that was rather pathetic of him to say?

Man and I just bought Final Fantasy VIII too. =( 
 
But on subject it does kinda seem like he is trying to get cheap easy laughs. Yea it's not funny but I don't think it would bother me at all.

7 in Roman Numerals is VII. The game you've mentioned was actually one of the few decent games in the series.

FFVIII is actually my favorite game... next to FFX of course.

I don't care what some guy thinks of my gaming tastes, or me. And I've never even heard of this guy. He attaches his reviews to an internet username.

Spoony isn't someone who believes that people who like different franchises or genres are a family that occassionally has differences but can come together. 
 
He's someone who believes that the vast majority of things that are popular are stupid and terrible, and that people who are fans of these series allow them to continue to be shitty and ruin everything. 
 
I completely agree with him. Even if you don't, it's not a simple reverse fanboy hating on the series (he loves a few of the final fantasies), it's his discontent for people that are continuing the existence of what he perceives to be shit. 
 
Edit: Oh, also he loves the tears of fanboys, and is totally trying to get them going.

Spoony has a huge inflated ego. His opinion is really the last thing anybody should care about.
 
Also FF8 is pretty funny once you realize that Squall has Aspergers.

I think you finding pleasure about how some random kid raving about how he hates some game says a lot about you. It also says I shouldn't even bother with this thread.

Yea part 8 blew pretty hard. I got bored and stopped playing on disc 2 when I had to search a town to find a dog. I guess they learned their lesson because part 9 had a very fantasy like feel to the world and characters.

Whatever, you suck for feeling bad about a 'you suck' statement just for a suck ass review that's obviously sucking up to it's audience, who also suck.

I watched the first few episodes and then stopped. I hated it.
 
It's not ragging on fanboys, it's a complete lack of any substance. For me, I found a good majority of his complaints against both games, whether he knew it or not, having to deal with the limitations of presenting the story during the times both games were made. I never saw a compare or contrast of games during that period, no perspective. I never got really far into either, but I never saw any criticism where it mattered for the actual game, specifically certain issues with the actual game character development mechanics (Materia / Junction) Other complaints seemed arbitrary and strange. Complaining that Google image searches of Final Fantasy VII brought in more pornography than Final Fantasy VI, or something to that effect. How the hell is that relevant to anything? 
 
I don't like him. I don't like Yahtzee either, but at least I get the impression he knows what he's talking about. 
I also heard Spoony tried to copy the GB Endurance run of playing through Deadly Premonition. Not cool.

FFVIII was great (FFX being the best).

FF7 was brilliantly written, and you should have a more open minded approach. 7 wasn't even in my top 3 favs but i the story was still pretty great, with drama and such(although character development was not as present as in the ones following it, aka 8-10)

Oh please, its all in the name of entertainment. Spoony is pretty notorious for including overblown angry rants and jokes into his stuff, its his comedy style. He admits in the commentary on the FFVIII review that he's just having fun and the people who overreact need to get a sense of humor, and I agree. Fanboys of Japanese games and game developers are WAY too devoted, most of them would die for their favorite game series, its a little pathetic.

If some smug comment by a  snarky jackass (I admit that he's quite funny at sometimes) really emotional effect you, then you need help. No offence, but you really need to see a shrink.

Play the game for what it is. A fucking fantasy.

Before I start I would just like to make it clear that I love FF8 (I own the game, I own a few of the action figures lol, I wear Squall's necklace every now and then, I even own all 110 Triple Triad cards which took me two years to collect to it's completion... the real cards, not in-game cards)

Now then... I've been following Spoony (as a huge fan of his rants) ever since my friend sent me a link to his series of FF8 videos a few years back. I never once thought that the game sucked or had a problem (outside of the obvious) 
 
But he just made the game sound so hilariously funny that I couldn't ignore him or the faults in the game. Infact I started to worship the ground he walked on, every 'nit-pick' he came up with was a legitimate grievance and I loved him for it, it all made perfect sence to me and I still stand by Spoony for just being soo damn funny with his rants. He did such a great job of ripping FF8 about ten new assholes that I honestly couldn't find anything wrong with his hate towards the game.
 
BUT!

If Spoony just stepped on camera for a few seconds and talked random trash... then there would be course for me (and alot of other real FF8 fans) to fire back at him with pure hate.
 
But anyway, lets just hope he doesn't start talking shite about something which he clearly knows nothing about, like pro wrestling... oh wait.....

Wow, I'm not the only one who thought FFX was the best?  Sweet.

 I'd post something here... but I would probably get shat-on by every person on this forum for thinking FF10 was the biggest pile of horse apples in the FF series for it's time, but now we have such bigger pieces of SHIT! like FFX-2, FF12 and FF13 (im holding my judgment of FF14 until i've played it for a few months, i'm almost one month in now and it's a big game)
