Kinda excited, cause I fucking love the FF series.

Any tips or anything you guys can think of?

If you've ever played any other FF game (and I assume you have), just pretend that it's not a FF game. I had completely the wrong mindset for playing this game, and despite its awesomeness I didn't like it :O

Don't let the haters influence you.  It was awesome, as they all are in their own way.

Just play it and have fun is my rather simple suggestion.

I didn't like it, but I can see the appeal. It's almost like FF goes Star Wars in a weird kinda way, I just couldn't get into the battle system. Hope you have fun though, £3 is a steal!

The only tip is have an open mind, if you come into expecting a new FFX or FFVII then you will be dissapointed because the gameplay is rather diffrent on the surface. Come into it expecting a cool story and good gameplay and you will probably love it :)

I heard it has THE Basch von Ronsenburg of Dalmasca!

I rented it once from work and I couldn't get into it. It reminds me of Persona 3. The start is slow as hell.

The battle system is VERY different, which probably explains why it's my favorite FF. That and the fact that you realise that the 'main' character isn't really the main character. It represents a fairly bold departure from quite a few FF traditions, for which it should be lauded. There are a few annoying things, like the AWFUL method for getting one of the top weapons, but the story is surprisingly solid, and the writing and voice acting doesn't make me wince like a lot of English localisations (I'm playing through Star Ocean 4 and I want to hurt some people right now). My recommendation would be to enjoy it as itself, I've heard too much criticism of the game solely based on the fact that it's not a prettier FFVII.

It's great, most fun I've had with a JRPG probably ever.

It's different but that's why I love it. It's tied as my top FF game along with FFIX. http://myfxadvice.com foreign exchange market

I thought it was refreshing take on the Final Fantasy series.

I'd rather have a FFX-style combat system, however, this was a nice change.

Let's just say it's worth every penny you paid for it. Oh, and don't believe Ondore's lies.

Exactly what I would suggest.  I too went into that game with the wrong mindset and ended up hating it initially.  In time I did grow to appreciate, and even like it, but it still doesn't hold a spot in my top games list.

And now I've just stopped playing it.

Aboard the airship, after being overwhelmed by a nonstop barrage of men, literally destroying me 3 times in a row, I finally gave up on FF12.
Good concept, but the fucking worst combat.

Yep. Tried that place 3 times, and it's undoable at my level. 11 hours in, and I'm literally deadlocked, and can't do fuck all. Shame that this game has the worst combat in a videogame.

Played a little bit of it. Just didn't get into it all. Then again at that stage I sort of lost interest in the FF series and I was playing Persona 3 at the time. Bit of a shame really, could've been a good game but I just hated those characters!

Hm, I enjoyed the battle system. Do you have healing gambits set? I think I had 2 of my three guys all set to heal when health was < 40% or something like that. If you have that, raise it to 60 and see how it works out. And if that doesn't work, you'd have to enjoy the age old tradition of leveling for 2 hours! Thanks Final Fantasy! This was why FFX was my favorite.

I just can't stand the combat, it's absolutely horrendous. As I said, I was literally deadlocked in this area after 11 hours of play.
From this point, it's a steam of nonstop guys who are force feeding my ass to me. An alarm goes off, which you can stop ONCE for 60s, and believe me, you'll need it. After being raped in half twice, I made it to the checkpoint, only to fight a Judge. If you can imagine the opening scene of Judge Dredd, it was like that. Only ALL of my guys died.

After consulting a guide, I should be "Over level 20".

I made it there at level 10. I have no idea how I managed to get that far on such a low level.

Looks like I'll go back to it in 6 months.

gave up on it after 65 or so hours, it's an absolute shame. the airship bit  with a bomb?. I totally just scraped past that part using lots of health potions.
Got stuck at a boss  in a sewer type thing that kept regenerating its health everytime I got close to harming it  under a desert, The game wouldn't let me backtrack at all so I had no chance to grind to get better.
stupid, stupid game. I wish they werea ll as good as IX

grind the fuck out of that game. As soon as you hit the mines, grind them like hell and you will gain levels and money like mad.

Tell me about it. I'm deadlocked in a room. No ability to backtrack. No ability to grind. I am just fucked. The second I step out of the room, I get raped nonstop by ALL THE ENEMIES EVER. And I have to run through about 1000 of them

The combat becomes mindless for the most part, and it's just a matter of refining all your characters gambits up to a point and then grinding. I got through that game only using a summon once that was mandatory to advance the game, and didn't understand the limit breaks either.

The environments were nice, and i enjoyed the change in gameplay overall. The story i found to be boring. Character-wise, everyone minus Balthier is terrible and there's a distinct lack of development for anyone. An entertaining game, but so so disappointing.

@Fallen189: The combat system had potential, problem was, it  was a little confusing and a little silly and it wasn't very well implemented into the game. Having said that, the combat system is absolute arsegravy. I need to earn XP and licence points to use items after I bought the damn things? Puu-lease. That's just streching it out. Also I would've said those fucking characters but now that I just did, I can't anymore. I have nothing against Americans, but having a harsh American accent in a fantasy game sounds kinda off, especially if the antagonists have British accents. What is this? Hollywood?

Oh sorry, that was much longer than intended.

And to think I was REALLY enjoying it. Then this happened.

Well, maybe I'll wanna try again in a year or so.

@Fallen189: Yeah...the series went down hill after FFX-2. Ugh. Sorry if I put you off the game anyway, hopefully you'll enjoy it more next time. I might just play it again, that is, if I'm not already playing Persona 5 or whatnot. (I'm not a hardcore JRPG fan, it's just that the Persona series rebooted my interest in JRPGs since FF10 came out, you already get idea what I felt like when X-2 came out).

Wow, that's what happened to me pretty much. Except i hadn't really played any FF game since i dabbling in a FFIX years ago.

After going from liking and then hating it, i threw it down after i got to the sandsea section (that's next bit after that prison ship part). Then i picked up FFX and was like "yes, this is what i was after."

Strange thing is, i went back to FFXII after finishing up X (which i liked and had enough fun with). I think i went back to it with a different mind set. It plays so different to the standard turn based JRPG. But i started grinding a bit, getting a helps from the internet, and BAM! next thing i knew i was 60 hrs into that shit. I ended clocking up about 120hrs doing all the hunts. crazy, i was surprised. i have no idea why i ended up liking it so. It's definately hard to get into, but once you do... it's got you good.

SO the reason i even care about this thread, is that i started that game up again. Why? maybe i was itching for it, maybe i listened to a tune that made some old memory fresh... who knows. But this time around i am cruising past parts i was fretting over the first time (like that prison section).

I think it's got a real step learning curve and if your not wanting, you going to be leaving.

It's getting more manageable. I got up to the part where the TRAITOR died.

Managing liscenses and equipment is a hassle. I don't need any magic or weapon/armor ones because im nowhere NEAR any of them gamewise!
