I havent played this game yet, but the voice acting for the moogle is really creepy.

Moogles are, have been, and always will be one of the worst things about the Final Fantasy universe.

Kupo is a food eaten by moogles, and the term "Kupo!" is derived from it. They first used the word "nya", as in "meow", and was changed to "kupo" later. It's their way of speaking, but some moogles can speak like us.

It's amazing how true this is. I used to be alright with moogles, but that moogle's voice acting makes it odd as hell.

What were you expecting form 13-2? From your comments, it seems like you've never played a Final Fantasy game before.

Also, the moogles in 12 were incredibly cute, so they get a pass. The rest of them can fuck right off though.

I think they had it perfect in FFIX. Kupo's had a sound effect that sort of sounded like "Kupo", but it wasn't an obnoxious voice. Digging the game a lot so far regardless

FF means a lot of different things to a lot of different people. Your age has a lot to do with it. FF to me is FF7 since I played it during my formative gaming years. FFs before that mean very little to me. People introduced to the series after that have an even more drastically different viewpoint.

I have a lot of fond memories of 7 and 8, but it has been a long time since those games came out. I can't say you're wrong.

Oh thank god. I could not imagine how that music could possibly fit into the game.

You'd think they'd have bred instinctual animal noises out of the moogles by now, but hey whatever.

They say kupo because it's translated from the Japanese and in Japanese they are used to little cutesy characters having this kind of speech characteristic. If it's a cat type of character it would be nya instead of kupo for example. Kupo itself is a nonsense word, but just sounds cutesy. 
 
Another thing is that before there was voice acting in games, if a Japanese person read this character's speech they would guess from the kupo thing that they most likely speak with a high pitched voice. So, had Ryan known this, he would never have thought that the puko would have a bronxian accent.

It's not unique to moogles. Japanese Persona 4 Teddie did the same thing.

@Dagbiker: I was just feeding off of what the guys on the Bombcast were talking about when they said the inclusion of quick time events was put in because western gamers said thats what they wanted. They then rightly asked "who the fuck did they talk to that said they wanted that?" I assumed it was the same people that said they wanted terrible screamo music for the boss fights.

@Ravenlight: I've only played 10 and 13, and I enjoyed both of them fine (no moogles and the music was fine if not great). Other than those two things I'm enjoying this game just fine

And when I mention the boss music I'm talking specifically about the Gogmagog fight and the Giant Flan fight.

Seems like the boss battle music is reaaally similar to the final boss in FF10 (Jecht).

A little off topic, but when Ryan talked about always picturing the Moogles with a heavy Bronx accent, I must admit that I've always done the same.

This sums it up quite nicely. I'm actually surprised at how much more I'm enjoying this game over it's predecessor. I don't know what happened, but once I got the ability to capture monsters, it's like I was a Pokemon-lovin' kid again.

Wow that music is pretty bad and I somewhat enjoyed Shootie HG in DMC 3.

I'm fine with that boss music, oddly. Probably because the first time I heard it, it actually fit pretty well with the situation.

Also, Crazy Chocobo is clearly a joke, guys. And a pretty funny one, if you ask me.
