Those stupid animations never match up with anything he says, it's like he's using sign language just in case someone doesn't understand Coconish. I don't remember 13 having this problem, but it's good for a laugh, I guess.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 is a direct sequel to Final Fantasy XIII released by Square Enix in early 2012.
Noel's insane hand gestures.
Pretty much that and there will always be Japanese mannerisms in Japanese games. Going through and changing everything would be insanely time consuming. That's why you always see things like walking with arms behind the head or that ridiculous smell-their-finger pose cocky bastards have sometimes. You have to realize, he originally spoke Japanese. Some things are lost in translation.
Alyssa's mannerisms are far more prominent than Noel's. I think she pointed her finger at someone or something every time I saw her.

Yeah. Complaining about this would be like complaining how people in some Japanese games bow in greeting each other. It's a polite gesture in the culture the game was made in. If an American game features someone flipping the bird, they're not necessarily going to remove or change that gesture when the game is released in countries where the bird has no inherent meaning.

I don't think that's the case though. The OP isn't upset that there ae gestures, but that they don't match up to what's being said. Noel does that a lot where his tone of voice doesn't match up with his facial expressions (ie sounds pissed when the character model looks like he wants to laugh) or seems really out of place considering the setting or situation. I think that either down to voice acting or voice direction and not a Japanese thing. It's similar to how in Skyrim, whether a character's voice is screaming, laughing their ass off, crying, or enraged, they just kinda wobble left and right with a blank look on their face.

He reminds me of Special Agent Francis York Morgan, ha! Ha!
