honestly who thinks its a good idea to not even be able to obtain the ultimate weapons (realistically) before even the final boss. thats just stupid. also when i heard the sphere grid was comming back i was excited......till they decided to cap it so i couldn't power level my characters. This game as some of the dumbest game play decisions I've ever experienced. the only thing not making this shittier then FF X-2 is this at least isn't some dumb ass girl power story.
Final Fantasy XIII
Game » consists of 17 releases. Released Mar 09, 2010
This entry into the Final Fantasy universe is set in the worlds of Pulse and Cocoon. Players take control of multiple characters who are caught in a war between these worlds.
FF 13 is now the second worst Final fantasy
It's a shame to know you feel that way. Personally, I don't really care about not being able to get the ultimate weapons or not having access to the entire Crystarium until the post-story play. That's not what's most important to me. I find the gameplay fun and the story entertaining. It's not the best game in the series, by my estimation, but I wouldn't call it among the worst.
" ah see i just saw the sphere grid and had amazing memories of 2 shotting the last boss in FF X and thought it would be amazing like that but sadly its not. also so far the story seems kinda boring and im almost done the game. "If there's any reason to block full progression on the Crystarium, it's to prevent exactly that.
I haven't played it myself but since the only Final Fantasy game that I have liked since 6 was 10 I was not planing on it and this pushed me over the edge.
This game is great, I can't for the life of me figure out where all the negativity is coming from. Some of the more universally acclaimed FF games are unplayable by today's standards, the gameplay has evolved for the better. Try playing Lost Odyssey and tell me you're not taking 8 steps backwards.
" The only problem with it is the lack of content in the post game, making it a ridiculously long grind to get money for that stupid treasure hunter trophy. If the enemies dropped gil maybe that would have fixed that problem too... "Yeah, that's the only wierd thing I think. Why don't the enemies drop some Gil?
I liked X-2. I thought it was pretty good.
When I saw this thread title I thought you were going to say it's the second worst Final Fantasy after Final Fantasy VII.
At least that would have been true. Ooh, I went there.
@Laketown: You, Sir, are wrong. Final Fantasy X is a fine game. Personally speaking, it's my favorite in the series. That doesn't count for anything; that doesn't mean anything, but it is what it is.
I haven't played it yet, but I've caught glimpses of it and played bits and pieces while I off visiting my family, since my younger brother owns it. I have a positive impression of it, and I think the capped crystarium is a good idea in that it doesn't allow you to madly grind and make the content too easy. The characters are fairly interesting as well. Actually, I think I like this cast the most out of all the Final Fantasy games, except perhaps 6.
Since we're talking about the other FF games, I didn't like X, am pretty indifferent to 4 and 7, didn't play 9 because of awesome playstation hardware, and enjoyed 6. X-2 had a good battle system, as I recall. But Final Fantasy Tactics is where it's at.
Very much agreed. The game is so freaking fun and rewarding and has a really addicting post game. One of my favorite battle systems ever." Really, because I think it's one of the best. "

" Final Fantasy II will always be the worst numbered FF in my eyes. (And by that I mean II not IV) "Wow really? Is that the one with Firion? Is it really that bad?
" The game is terrific. I also loved 12 and disliked 10. Seems like my opinions on FF games are usually pretty unpopular... Also, 8 sucked. 7 and 9 were awesome. And 6 was better than 4. Let the madness begin!!!! "Nah, only your 12 and 10 switch are unpopular. Everything else is about right. My opinion on the other hand, is a little bit stranger. Loved 8 and 10, despised 7.
This is one of my favorite FFs primarily because the game remains difficult all the way until the end. And if you wanted rankings you needed to nerf your characters' equipment anyhow. So I don't see TC's complaint.
Kill adamantoise, get money. Get money, kill adamatoise. To be more specific, their common drop is the platinum ore and the rare drop is the trapzehedron. So yeah..." The only problem with it is the lack of content in the post game, making it a ridiculously long grind to get money for that stupid treasure hunter trophy. If the enemies dropped gil maybe that would have fixed that problem too... "
" Final Fantasy II will always be the worst numbered FF in my eyes. (And by that I mean II not IV) "You know..i'm not sure what I like from the FF franchise anymore..
considering FFII, FFXII, and FFXIII are my favorites in the series and they're all hated on by the fanbase

He is a sad tree now. How does that make you feel?
Isn't that the basis for all kinds of tastes? If something don't appeals to you, you're bound to hate it." @luce said:

I loved Final Fantasy XIII not only as a new entry in the Final Fantasy franchise, but as a game in general. It seems that the common complaints don't apply to be whatsoever. One may complain that the linear nature of the first half of the game is a bad thing. Sure, you're being ushered forward constantly, but is this really a bad thing? Final Fantasy XIII truly excels in story and level design. The environments are all beautiful, and the story is deep and you begin to care for the characters as they grow. I'm not going to hang around grinding when I could continue to the next gorgeous locale, and deep cut scenes.
Speaking of grinding, that's why the level cap is in place. Sure you can grind all you want, but you can never feel over powered. While the crystarium is easy to max, you won't reach this limit until shortly before the next upgrade. That is unless you've been doing some major grinding. A huge part of the fun of FF13 comes from the battle system. if you're over leveled, you can simply mash X / A (depending on your console) until the battle is over. If you're limited in terms of leveling, that's not an option. There will be a challenge, and strategy will be employed if you want to be successful.
Final Fantasy XIII isn't a bad entry, it's just a different one. Square wanted to try some new stuff for this entry in the series, and in my opinion, they've accomplished everything they hoped for.
I really don't know how to feel about FFXIII. Near the beginning of the game I was really into it, but the farther it got I really started to just get tired of it. When chapter 11, where the game "opens up", rolled around though, I instantly fell in love with the game and how awesome it was....then chapter 12 came. Chapter 12 and 13 took me almost 2 weeks to do just because I would play for about an hour then get into a fight that took 10 minutes straight only to run into a fight right after that which had 2 of the enemy I just killed. Because of that, I would turn off my PS3 and go do something more productive. So, to sum it up, my experience of FFXIII went from Boring->Awesome->Frustrating.
Also, I think the NES FFII is the worst Final Fantasy, just because of the "leveling" system and how I ended up grinding for the first five hours or so just to have a decent party.
FF X-2 was the stupidest shit I've ever played. I mean I haven't even played FF XIII and know there's know way its as stupid as X-2.

" @Jeust said:True to a extent, since towns with it's minigames and quests introduced a bit of non-linearity and were a nice change from the dungeon crawling." @CL60 said:Yes, but not to this extent..a lot of the FF fanbase said this game was the worst FF ever and was an awful game because they removed towns.. For me the main problem is that it feels a step back when compared with FFXII.
" FF X-2 was the stupidest shit I've ever played. I mean I haven't even played FF XIII and know there's know way its as stupid as X-2. "While I'd agree, I'd consider X-2 a spin-off game, unrelated to the main series.
If we're counting all the spin-off games than XIII is no where close to being among the worst.
But if we're just doing I-XIII, then I'd agree with the original poster.
