Final Fantasy XIII Impressions 2

I didn't really play much this past week as I had some family issues to deal with and that took up most of my time. Therefore, I'm not doing a Gaming Landscape this week. However, before the family stuff happened, I was playing more of Final Fantasy XIII and I've reached the 11th chapter. I was at the beginning of the seventh chapter in my last impressions so I've done four more.

Okay. First off, the seventh chapter is pretty good. A lot of story happened in that chapter and the stuff with Hope and Snow working together is pretty good, especially when they scare off the crowd and they come back later. That's a good moment. Second, I hate the 10th chapter. That "dungeon" is so poorly designed and so monotonous. I was yelling at my TV screen, begging for it to "just fucking end already." I am glad I finally was given the option to customize my character party. However, I wish I could use more than just three party members. I know that's the standard but I mean, they're there. What happens when there's a battle? They just kick back and watch? Maybe at least allow another character to replace one that gets knocked out? I know you could revive them but I'm just saying the option would be nice.

Anywho, I'm enjoying the story so far. It really was slow at the beginning but some of the resolutions in the story, especially in the 7th chapter, made the characters make more sense. It bugs me though that *SPOILER* Snow takes responsibility for Hope's mother's death. She was a grown ass woman and she knew the potential consequences. Lightning makes sense now as well as she more or less came to her senses and as a result, I like her more. *SPOILER OVER* Chapter 8 was someone boring as there wasn't much action and Chapter 9 was it's polar opposite and was action packed, which was a strange juxtaposition. I enjoyed chapter 9 though a lot.

However, I've gotten a bit into chapter 11 and OH MY GOD I'M STUCK! I can't even beat the first mission's target. Also, the monsters roaming around can take me out in like four hits. This is the difficulty spike everyone was talking about and it's kinda ruin the game for me. I'm not kidding, I'm stuck. I can't move forward. I've kinda stopped playing the game because I'm straight up can't progress anymore. So this is kinda my last word on the game unless I can get my friend who is super into RPGs to help me out because I can't go on.

Is FFXIII by any chance your first FF game?

Game is tough but that's pretty much the biggest redeeming quality aside from the story being better because it's completely linear. Hardest game in the main series with easily the best combat system in JRPG history. It's a good game, but you do have to grind like crazy (or have miniscule seconds reflexes) if you want to do the final sidequests which I never felt particularly inclined to do.

@fredchuckdave: Not my experience i'll tell you, i never had to grind, my weapons maxed out easily and most of my fights i played with one hand. The First time i played it i stopped at 20hrs because i could tolerate it. And that was a tutorial O_o

The story's dumb, certainly a step down from 12 and that game focused on the wrong characters.

I like the general look of the game but there's a whole lot of contextual questions that ruin the illusion of world.

TBH, i found FF6 harder
