A mate and I are interested in picking this up for a bit and messing about for shits and giggles. From what I've read, you're starting location is determined by your starting class. I don't know what classes we're playing yet but in the event we choose classes with different starting areas, what's the quickest we can meet up at what level and how many hours in? Can you do a WoW-move and basically get up and start walking and do starting missions else where?

The story quests will have you visit the other main cities at level 15, after which the game really opens up. Getting to this point on my first character took maybe about 10-12 hours. But you can do it a lot faster if you just powerlevel and don't get sidetracked. Keep in mind that you will eventually need to level other professions as well, so I would recommend saving those beginner quests in the other regions for your secondary professions.

Sort of. It may take a bit of time due to having to avoid monsters that would one shot you but there's nothing stopping you from walking to another city. The problem is, while you can do side quests, your main story missions will still be in your home nations so you wouldn't be able to do those together.

You get access to an airship at level 15 and around 20 or so, IIRC, the story mostly stops being in the starting nations.

Thanks for that guys. We're mostly casual players looking to mess around and I don't think either of us can play alone for 10 or so hours, so we might just force ourselves to pick the respective classes. Cheers.

A good city to start in then might be Limsa Lominsa, one of you can be a tank (Marauder) and the other can go DPS (Arcanist) with the ability to be a healer later if you pick the right job class (Scholar).
