Final Fantasy XI was definitely a console game. It played like crap on PC. The controls felt like they took a PS2 controller and tried to shove it into your keyboard.

@WilliamRLBaker:  Your completely embarrassing yourself, you yourself pointed at the part of the article where it is hinted that Microsoft wants a piece of the pie(money), the problem is you can't see the truth with your fanboy blind shield on, think about it, if Microsoft wanted to keep the same policy they have for FFIX and is the current policy Square uses, why would they deny it and forgo porting the title?, the article clearly hints at the fact that Microsoft wants to follow a policy where a piece of the pie goes their way and that's what stopping studios from releasing the games, which in some cases are games already ported and done ready for release like in Champions Online Case which the studio basically wasted money to port so that Microsoft would end up giving them the finger.

Oh and I never said Microsoft Wanted to charge for Silver, so once again I tell you to please learn to read, what I said was that they want to make MMO access be a Gold benefit which would cost people extra money, again do you want me to bring out the crayons to explain?

but whatever, keep living in your Microsoft blindness world, the day where you stop being a fanboy will be the day you see things clearly about all 3 console companies.

Microsoft needs to take a step back, put down the chicken wing, and realize it is way too big. They fuck up so many break throughs, so many games, so many deals because there's a freakin labyrinth of legal shit and greedy money grubbing douchebags to get through. No studio is down to put up with it, and the gamers suffer.

Paying any money for extra maps isn't smart. It's god damn idiotic. That's like I said, PC gaming is where it's at. Free maps, all the time. Mods galore. Free as well...  Ever since the Boom of DLC, a lot of companies have been getting worse with regards to Content:Money.

Activision is one of the worst. They charge way to much money for what you get in their map packs and their prices keep going up. Granted there are games that give you substantial amounts of content for the price tag. Liberty City Stories, for example, had two separate DLC packs and both had a lot of content for what you paid. Then look at Borderlands. Gearbox gave shit to nothing for content in their first two DLC packs. The third one was much better, but it's a shame it took them so long to get a DLC pack right. Mass Effect is another prime example. They're getting better at how much they give you for the price tag, but there are still times I feel cheated in regards to how much I got for paid DLC.

My stingy self might be caused by the fact that I'm deeply rooted in PC games and have been for a long time. To me, a lot of this extra content has rarely been charged for. There were expansion packs, but those were the same hit or miss for content. I generally stayed away from them unless I was heavily invested in the game in question. I will say this. PCs are louder than any console if you don't treat it right. The problem with this test is he's measuring the wrong location both times. Most of the sound on the 360 comes out of it's back end because it has the ability to stand up right, so the bottom and top sides aren't really designed for ventilation.

As for the 360 not being very loud.. If you have a defective xbox, your disc tray could produce sound like a blender. This doesn't take into account the fan in it too. That can get loud if your console is constantly overheating. The original ones were the worst. Mine RROD 3 times before I gave it up and got a new one.  On top of that, not everyone has sound surrounding them when they play. If your sound comes out of the TV speakers and your console is in the same place you're going to have to crank the volume or you won't hear it. Even the Elite I bought has loudness issues. It's not like I did anything to it either. I took it out of the box, turned it on for the first time and sighed. Its fan is just as loud. Mind you the disc tray isn't shit this time.

In regards to the Microsoft's points system. I haven't been following it because I'm not currently near most of my stuff and haven't been for a months. So I haven't been making purchases with points and am unaware of any recent changes. The problem I have with the whole thing is that you have to buy points in the first place.

Making us jump through hoops to hand-cuff some of our own money onto the system is fucking bullshit. It should essentially be a dollar sign tied to the item, one that you charge to your credit card when it comes time to make the content purchase. I'm not feeling the whole buying points so you can have them available when something (could be a random purchase) comes out. It's utter nonsense. And saying I post false shit is lol. I have no reason to deceive anyone and I'm not a troll. I don't see where false shit comes into play, at all. "

I can pretty much cut out most of that which is likely false and simply say this.
People like you are why pc piracy is so rampent, you ACTUALLY believe these companies owe you something and how you shouldn't have to pay for any thing, including the game it self.
Any one that believes paying for a quality product is idiotic is not worth the argument.

@Somadude:  No, i believe you're allowed to have XBox Live Silver to get access to FFXI. What does suck however is that you have to permanently link your 360 gamertag to your FFXI account.

Shame that the Microsoft crowd won't be playing FFXIV, at least not for a long while (hey, even the 360 version of XI came out years after PC and PS2 launch, so i suppose things COULD happen in the meantime.)
#159 Posted by haggis (1677 posts) -
@Snapstacle: I'm still finding it hard to take seriously the idea that this is Microsoft's fault, though. Live has always been closed, and everyone knew it would always be closed. SE didn't want to conform their game to the already widely known limits MS puts on their hardware. Both companies are being obstinate. But the idea that it is MS's fault that SE decided to design its game in a specific way with specific demands in mind that they knew before development started were going to be non-starters for Microsoft? Sorry, I think that's idiotic. Everyone knew online on the 360 is through Live only. SE knew that, and didn't want to conform. They could have, if they wanted to. But they didn't. It's not as if the Live policy is new.

Given that the console is closed (which we all knew) it is no suprise that Microsoft doesn't want to allow them a free online service through their console which has its own online service. To play, they've got to go through Live. We all know that. And MMOs will have to charge when going through Live. That's all I'm saying. Again, it's not as if SE didn't know all this. Wishing things were otherwise doesn't suddenly put the onus on Microsoft. We've known all of this since launch. I'm not sure why this is hard to understand.

#161 Posted by JasonDaPsycho (429 posts) -

This is a joke right? No wonder why Japanese developers are saying that their games suck when compared to those developed by the westerns.

That's just flat out being lazy, and there is no other excuse to that. I'm not against console exclusives but refusing to develop a game because the online system isn't the way you want it to be?
Wow, just WOW.

@WilliamRLBaker:

When did I ever say I pirated PC games? I never have and I never will pirate PC games or any games for that matter. When I say free maps and free mods I'm speaking about content that is released to the public for free, not pirated. Valve is a big contributor to this facet of PC games. That's why they have such a large following. It's not just the fact that they release quality games, but that they support those quality games with free updates and content. You can call me a liar that posts false shit but you're way off base.

I haven't said I wouldn't pay for quality products. In actuality, that's the only thing I said I WOULD pay for. I was saying that both of the Modern Warfare 2 map packs were horribly over priced for what you're getting. Especially when there is plenty of other, better multiplayer FPS on the market, plenty of which offer free maps from the developers and custom maps/mod communities. I'm NOT posting false shit. Take off your fanboy goggles and realize that a world outside of Microcharge is bountiful and fruitful, and a lot cheaper to continue playing.

Honestly, do you read AND type with your ass? judging by your response I can assume you didn't read at all. You need to read everything and stop jumping to conclusions. Seriously.

if this comes out with a subscription fee lower than wow (as to stay competitive) i will play. if it costs more (which is what i expect from square after ff11) i wont be playing. i have a ps3 but would play it on pc anyway. no big loss for 360'ers.

#168 Posted by haggis (1677 posts) -
@xenexprime: Maybe you should read what I said. I said PSN isn't going to be free anymore. Some features will be paid for. I didn't say what you think I said, and perhaps you ought to not "spread disinformation" about what I posted. No matter what Sony says, the fact is that they've always claimed their online features would be free. And now they're not. And given Sony's penchant for removing features from their console, the additional fees for some PSN content should give PS3 owners (of which I'm one, by the way) some pause.

Read the Bold and Underlined Part of your quote, you are claiming existing free features will no longer be free, which is NOT true, please provide me with a list of CURRENT free features which will now be paid features, seriously I think people these days don't think before typing, it is like their brains lapse out in the middle of a conversation and they don't realize what they are saying or something, as I said you are claiming CURRENT FREE FEATURES WILL BE NO LONGER FREE AND THAT IS NOT TRUE THUS I CALL IT MISINFORMATION, get it? as I said read your own words on the underlined Bold part of the Quote and use your brain for a second.

BTW what features did they remove? OtherOS? let me tell you something, if it wasn't for all the cheapskates trying to hack the PS3 to be able to copy and backup PS3 games to share all over the torrent networks that wouldn't have happened, people can use the "Homebrew" excuse all they want but I happen to follow the news on the "Homebrew" front and have clearly found that all they want is to Pirate games, only a few people want to hack it to learn about the process the majority just want free games, go to any forums talking about the "GeoHotz" hack and all people mostly ask is "When can I play pirated game backups" "please release an iso loader already!!" so give me a break, and as far as any other feature I haven't seen any removed except that one, I am not some uninformed hick talking out of his behind I read and follow all 3 consoles as I own all 3 and I call it as I see it simple as that.

Wasn't there suppose to be a MMO FPS for the 360 that was announced a few years back? I can't for the life of me remember the name of the game. It looked like Unreal Tournament but a MMO

#173 Posted by Brendan (8173 posts) -

Y'know Microsoft, if this happens to you more than once, maybe the problem's on your end...

I wouldn't even play MMO's on my 360, but this definitely sucks for all those who would.
#174 Posted by Jackel2072 (2280 posts) -

at the moment i dont think this is much of a problem for Microsoft. until blizzard or Bioware start wanting to bring stuff like WOW and Knights of the old republic to the consoles. its not going to be that big of a deal. the last FFMMO was popular sure, but it was by no means a game changer.

#175 Posted by Clbull (127 posts) -

> Don't you have to pay both SE and MS to play FFXI?

I only played the Xbox 360 Open Beta version (which was when they were packaging the game with OXM and it had a small beta period.) If I recall, you could play FFXI and even Phantasy Star Universe online with just an Xbox Live Silver account. I don't think you have to pay both developers to play the game.

Nonetheless, I think that Microsoft are stupid to let Xbox Live continue like this, the way it currently is. And do you want to know the several massive reasons why this is?

Well here goes:

  • Every other console has free online gameplay. You just have to look at Nintendo WFC and PlayStation Network and realise you should have gotten a PS3 or a Wii
  • Their platform is too restrictive. e.g. with The Orange Box when they would have to charge for DLC and therefore little of it was released. Its also why Gabe Newell announced that Portal 2 was coming to the PS3 with Steamworks support. Because while he did completely slate the PS3 at one point, he ate his words and said that PSN was the most open platform for online gaming.
  • The community on XBL is terrible. Just look at the idiots you'd meet on an average Xbox Live game.
  • £50 a year. Just to do online gaming. When every other current gen console does it for free.

Nonetheless, I am pissed off that FFXIV will not come to the 360. I just might go for a PS3 instead.

I blame xbox live for a lot of thing like being a crappy online game service that console noobs are dumb enough to pay for when you could get the same things free on PC through stuff like valves steam.. with rea l    dedicated  game  servers and not Xbox live peer to peer trash.

Oh and the right to mod what ever the fuck you want and post it on your server.

Then they cut out support for old xbox 1 games when you can still pay games from fucking 1996 online on PC like quake oh well.       (and they still sell the games online even though the pulled the servers  I find this so funny)

Not that you would want to play first person shooters on the xbox 360 or ps3 since they look and control like laggy blury ass anyway.

#177 Edited by iKANNIBAL (595 posts) -

I really don't care about MMO's but great job microsoft your ridiculous policies is proving to be your downfall, the reason Valve is with Sony now is because of those ridiculous no mod policies, the reason UT3 had no mod support on 360 and the reason we can't have custom themes on Xbox Live, Microsoft don't plan on surviving in the console industry long do they? i'm not a fanboy infact i prefer the 360 because PSN is absolutely terrible but Microsoft are really fucking themselves.

Maybe when they start feeling the hurt will they change their policies, the MMO will suck, so i won't even bother getting it on my PS3

@xenexprime: You can't read English, can you? Where did I say current features wouldn't be free? I very specifically didn't say that. What I said was that Sony had always claimed that their online features would be free. All of them. Now, we learn, Sony is going to add for-pay services to PSN. This isn't difficult to understand. Sony's online services have been completely free and now they will be offering services for pay. I think it's a troubling development, even if I can understand the necessity of it. Stop arguing with what you think I said, and actually read the post. There's nothing remotely close to misinformation about my post.

And on the new PS3s they removed Other OS, but in the past they removed backward compatibility. Oh, how I remember all the PS3 fanboys complaining about Xbox's admittedly shaky backwards compatibility. At the time, you'd think it was, maybe, a big deal. But now that it's gone, no fanboys seem to care ... or, it seems, to remember.

"I am not some uninformed hick talking out of his behind..." Well, I beg to differ. I think you've proven that you are, at least, uninformed. As for being a hick? Who knows.

@Snapstacle: "Maybe you should take a minute to remember that not everybody cares what Microsoft does..."  But this is a thread about Xbox Live and Microsoft, so obviously the people here on this thread actually do care about Microsoft, or we wouldn't be talking about it. So I'm not sure what the hell you're talking about. If you don't care about Microsoft and Xbox Live, why are you bothering to post here, in a thread, that concerns both? I assumed that if you posted here in this thread that you care about the topic. I don't think that's unreasonable at all.

#181 Posted by Cerialthriller (20 posts) -

Everyone saying that MMOs should only be played on PC or MMOs on Consoles LOL obviously didn't play FFXI. The game was made for the PS2 and I don't know a single person who didn't use a controller for that game even on the PC. The game was designed and made for a controller. And they have said the same of this one. It is a SE MMO, which means it's console designed, they don't really make anything for the PC.

@haggis:  Meh I have no time to argue with people who just don't get it, you should ask yourself if you are the one who speaks English, no matter how you try to change what you said, you know you said it the wrong way, anyways as I said before you have no idea what you are talking about, PSN has always had Premium content you need to pay for, the only promised features to remain free since the beginning were the abilities to play online etc.. "Qore" for example has been around for a long time on PSN and offered many of the things PSN Plus will offer already for a subscription fee, so as I said you got no idea and are completely out of your league here, but as I said I got no more time to waste, have fun living in ignorance.
#183 Posted by FCKSNAP (2299 posts) -
@haggis: I don't care what Microsoft does but I do have an active interest in video games, MMOs, consoles and the companies behind them. I also owned a 360 (sold it and getting the quieter one) with an active gold account. I also feel like trying out FFXIV, so maybe I have an infinitely higher amount of interest in this news article and its contents than you might ever have.
#184 Posted by Mezmero (2078 posts) -

Is anyone really surprised?  Microsoft lost their shirts on the 360 version of FF XI, so they have no reason to think that this would do well either.

#185 Posted by haggis (1677 posts) -
@xenexprime:  No, I didn't say it the wrong way, you decided (for whatever reason) to read it the way you wanted to. Qore was just video content. PSN plus is a lot more than that. So what I said still stands. Sony is going to be charging for online services. Note: I did not say (as you keep claiming) that Sony will be charging for all online services. Only that it is slowly introducing a paid system. Which I still maintain is not a good sign for the future of PSN.

Oh, and are you going to actually admit that you were wrong about other removed features? I see that you very obviously didn't mention that in your reply. Removing hardware BC was a big deal for a lot of us. And you were wrong. So I wonder which one of us doesn't "get it." I doubt it's me.

@Snapstacle:  I have no idea what your issue is.
#186 Posted by xenexprime (77 posts) -
@haggis: Qore is not jsut video content, Qore subscribers got Early Beta & Demo Access, Free PSN Games and Exclusive Free Themes thus why I said it had Many of the Features PSN Plus will have, your lack of knowledge about that alone speaks volumes on how clueless you are, I didn't speak about anything else cause frankly I have no time to waste with you, I am done and hope you enjoy talking to yourself.

Have to disagree qore has video content often useless demos, very few betas, and the free content is often crap I regret ever paying for a year of it, but I ended up wanting to see what it was.

I played FFXI on 360 for probably 2-3 years before I switched to playing on PC. It was overall a good experience. Xbox Silver Account is all that's required (aka free). Graphics were pretty good, but I attribute that to the fact that FFXI is an older game.  It's a shame M$ is unwilling to be flexible, but it's really not that surprising.

To prove my point here's an old picture I took a few years ago.

#189 Posted by haggis (1677 posts) -
@xenexprime: Everything you listed is essentially a microtransaction. It doesn't change the fact that you are buying discrete items (such as themes and demos) and not access to a service. That it's disguised by being fee-based doesn't change anything. It's not a complicated distinction. Qore was about providing a way of getting money of individual items that no one in their right mind would pay for. It wasn't a dump, not a service. As for your not mentioning everything else, it's pretty clear you skipped talking about it because you made yourself look like an ignorant idiot. And your parting shot just shows you're unwilling to have a serious conversation.
