E3 2013: It's All Big Swords And Big Enemies In This Final Fantasy XV Gameplay Trailer
What is this? Final Fantasy has managed to regain my interest after the 40-hour corridor that was 13. Well at least from the combat point of view it doesn't look like it plays itself this time. I look forward to seeing how the "open world" aspect of this game comes along.
You have to give them credit, this looks hella different. Interested to see how it plays out and glad they cut the 13 cord of and are just calling it 15.
It looks like FF trying to be DMC. I'm looking forward to FFXHD so I can play a good old TBJRPG again.
Words cannot explain how bad I want to play this. I've always been a fan of Final Fantasy since around VII but Im kind of getting tired of JRPGs. Now I get all the great stuff from JRPGs (interesting story, interesting character designs, great enemies, great looking cut scenes, etc...) without the lame RPG part :P. It's like they took a bacon cheeseburger and took all the other stuff out and just gave you a ton of bacon because... we all know we are just here for the delicious bacon.
Gameplay actually looks like just a good looking but unexceptional game and nowhere near the level of the tech demo cut scene that people were wetting their panties over?
Whoa surprise!
Wait, this isn't a new final fantasy, this is just all the final fantasys combined into one. The world from FF7, the character design from FFXIII, the armor and enemy design from XII.
I just hope that there is a guy with a gun for a hand, and an animated doll that can cast magic.
Wow, I think I might even check in on this when It comes out, big departure, last FF I played was X-2 and I could'nt drag myself through it to finish.

Maybe it's because this has nothing to do with the demo? They asked if people wanted that tech demo to be an actual title and got positive feedback. So maybe they're doing it but if so there wouldn't be anything to present yet.
This game is Versus XIII and that is in development since forever and I'm really surprised that it looks as good and interesting as it does. Especially because I hated FFXIII.
I'm actually an old school fan when it comes to Final Fantasy combat, I would have been happy if they went back to ps1/ps2 era combat even. So I was skeptical about this game, but I must say this looks pretty badass so far. I'm intrigued, if they can pull off the combat well enough this could really breath some new life into the FF series, though since it doesn't look very strategic, something I love about traditional JRPG combat, I will still secretely hope even if it is successful and future games use combat similar that they'll still do an old school game sometime like a FF7-2 or FF6-2 or something.
Please make this game awesome SquareEnix, as a fantasy jrpg nerd I don't want the FF series to disappear, I grew up playing FF.
@video_game_king: sorry, wasn't sure if we should be doing that with these e3 trailers, figured I'd give it a whirl for a few of them. If that's not the policy, then no worries.
I don't know, it just doesn't feel like Final Fantasy...
And that's a good thing or rather Final Fantasy shouldn't have a feeling.
The design philosophy (or mantra) for the series was originally to design each game as if it were the last (final fantasy) game they were making. At a certain point Square lost sight of this and began playing it safe with the numbered titles and anything that was different or risky became a spin off.
Each numbered title should be drastically different than what came before, not the same or similar even. I mean for the first time in a long time it seems like they are making a Final Fantasy game that's trying to be different than what's come before and it's something that the series is in desperate need of at this point.
@echoecho: I think they're just referencing that there's like cars, and street lamps, and normal things combined with airships and monsters.

Hmm, my bad I guess.
As someone who doesn't follow FF closely that's how the press conferences and the trailers made it come off as the final result of all that.
If that's not the case, apologies. :/
I'm still not sure what this is, but it looks fucking awesome so I'm on board. First thing I've seen so far that looks 'next-gen'.
Looks nothing like standard old school Final Fantasy, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. FF13 was equally cinematic and crazy while requiring minimal user input though, so gameplay may still be closer to standard RPG with a hint of action. I actually like FF13 overall so I'm definitely interested in this.
@tennmuerti: They are two totally different things and they both look more interesting to me design wise than what Final Fantasy has done in years.
I guess it was a bit unfortunate from Sony to show the tech demo at the reveal and to then say that they will show more Final Fantasy at E3 but basing that of a different thing. I can see how you might get confused.
Is it just me or does the feel of this game feel very reminiscent of FFVIII? The characters, environments, everything feels like that world, which is great cause that's easily my favorite in the series.
