Chocobo World:
Final Fantasy
Final Fantasy is Square Enix's most famous and successful franchise and has been going for more than 35 years. With the impending release of Final Fantasy XVI, there are sixteen numbered mainline games, with dozens of spin-offs.
To FF fans, what do you want after FF15 & FF7?
In all honesty I want FF7 Crisis Core with FF7 remake if possible, I love FF7CC however due to it being on the PSP in 07 (I think)
Not as many people played through it.
It was fantastic but it must have the original Japanese VO
Make a game that looks like an Amano Design come to life.
Short of taking the franchise down to the creek and telling it about the rabbits (the brand means too many things to people to make anyone happy), I'd settle for this.
All I want is IX, X, and X-2 on PC so I can trick... I mean convince @zombiepie to play them.
I want them to make another game with a crazy job system like Final Fantasy V. So like Bravely Default, but without the part where they give up 2/3rds of the way through and make you fight the same handful of bosses 4 times to get the true ending. (maybe Bravely Second is that game?)
Classes. I want a thief to be a thief, a mage to be a mage, etc. Every FF character has been so customizable stat and skill wise it takes away from their personality to me.
To either have effort put into the characters and/or writing or to not take itself nearly as seriously. Much too melodramatic for a series with such poor storytelling.
I mostly want japanese rpg devs to take a good look at the stories they tell and ask themselves if they REALLY wanna make such narrative focused games.
@zombiepie: Speaking of which, did you ever finish that LP/diary of your playthrough? The last one I saw was from where you got up TO the end but split the ending itself off into its own entry (because apparently it was a real doozy).
I figure you did finish it and I simply missed that update.

It's coming this Sunday!
A FFVIII remake, because I'm completely unreasonable.
WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?!?!
I honestly don't know if this series reaches 16. Not in big numbers at least. Not unless 15 does amazingly, which I don't know if it will. I think Final Fantasy might be approaching that tier of game where there is a small, dedicated niche fanbase that can be relied on, but not in the numbers needed for the AAA spectacle each numbered title tries to be.
Which I might be fine with, if it means that Final Fantasy games moving forward draw back the scope a bit. Maybe they make more of those spin off titles.
I would like to see them take a break on FF and make some PS1 style RPG's that they sell on steam, live, and PSN. I want to see the experimental side of Square that develloped Parasite Eve, Brave Fencer Musashi, FFT, Bushido Blade, or Saga Frontier.
If we are talking about keeping FF around, then make a hyper-stylized 2D overhead RPG with ATB (active time battle), imagine a SNES square RPG without the hardware limitations.
@zombiepie: After your playthrough of FF8, i'm sure that Square has some great ideas to make FF8 the game it could have been :P
Spiritual successor (or even sequel) to the best game of all time.
Crossovers of course!
I mean like Streetfighter x Final Fantasy levels of madness. And a deeper game than Project X-Zone.
But for real, I'd vote for FF16 over some other remake. But at the same time, would love if FF9 got a PC port (would be fine if they farmed this out and it was just an up-res).
@zombiepie: IMAGINE HOW MAGICAL THE CONCERT WOULD BE IN HD
If they did a FF7 style remake for FF8 I would be happy with the series forever. And I am sure@zombiepie would jump at the opportunity to play it as well.
huh a lot of wishes in this thread came to pass (or will soon).
im totally up for an amano looking game. i'm sure they could pull it off. i would proceed to do horrible passionate things to it.
Holy Necron with this thread! (This being funny because Holy is both a spell in the series and Necron is the final boss of IX. It's a double play on words, which already makes me a better writer than almost anyone working on the series currently).
Anyway, I would like any of the following:
- A Final Fantasy Tactics style game.
- A return to old-school classic turn based FF
- Improve upon the real-time system of XV. Better camera, companion AI that isn't moronic, and a greater degree of challenge that doesn't allow for item spamming would be be good.
I think if the XIII debacle showed anything, it's that an ATB system doesn't really work in the modern context. It had its place back when there wasn't the graphical capacity to do real time combat well, but when continuing to do turn based combat would have felt repetitious. However, nowadays it just sits in this uncomfortable middle between real time action and actual strategy.
And this is a total pipe-dream, but I'd like them to hand off some of the creative and story direction to someone else, possible a western developer who actually knows how to write a good story and compelling characters. The recent stories in the series have either been garbage (XIII), or rushed and chopped up to the point they are incomprehensible (XV). A Final Fantasy game with combat built by the Japanese studio, but with a story and art direction by, say, CD Projekt or Obsidian could be really, really awesome.
They should get 12 and 15 on PC first. After that, get the remake out and make a new singleplayer game that starts from scratch but still keeps some of the FF tropes (summons, secrets, hidden bosses, chocobo's, mogs, airships, big world). Less zippers & gel would be welcome too.
I really liked the idea of those PMC schools in 8 doing assignments for nearby cities / towns. I also liked the religious tones of the summoner's pilgramage in FFX. It really felt like you were on a journey together. So a game that brings those topics back would be welcomed.
It would also be cool if we had a FF game that featured a more mature cast. People being 30+ doesn't mean that they all have to be gruff nihilistic dudes, you can still create a fun range of personalities.
