I'm pretty much the only person I've ever met that really, really likes 8. I thought it had a good story, excellent pace, and the junction system was pretty cool. Maybe I'm weird.

IX, without a doubt. That game was just so much fun, and the story and characters were really awesome, too. Pretty much everything about that game represents the pinacle of Final Fantasy as a series.

The few, the proud, the online. FFXI was pretty awful in a lot of ways, but great in others. I got pretty deeply sucked in for a while, playing with a group of 4 all in the same room with laptops on a sofa. It was a blast, and we had a lot of good times. Having a solid group of friends to experience things with together is quite wonderful.

Steampunk>Cyberpunk.
FF VI and IX are placed in steampunk worlds.
While VII and X (kinda)- are cyberpunk.
Seems XIII will be a lot like VII..

This will totally make me the wierdo but I found it hard to choose between FFXI (Eleven the MMO) and FFXII (12). Both are my favourite in the series by far, but XI just nudges it for me.

I've only played VII, VIII annnd IX myself but they each have something that i prefer over the other.

FFVII has the brilliant atmosphere and storyline.
FFVIII for me has some of my favourite FF characters out of what i've played.
Annd FFIX has the best gameplay for me, especially its class based characters which i prefer to having each character able to basically learn the same skills and moves as any other.

I'm gonna say Final Fantasy VII. Yeah, some nostalgia as it was the first FF game I played, but the story is great and the game has no dull moments in my opinion. I also love the materia-system. I guess Final Fantasy IX comes second on my list, but I find it a bit more childish than VII. :)

And to clarify: I've played every main FF game except III, XI and XII.

I loved FFIV. Cecil is my dude in Dissidia. See, I never really got into VII like I did with IV, I really think the series started going downhill with that one. It's like, take what made VI good (because, even though I like IV, VI is the best, IMO), and make it really simple. People like to talk about how VII had the best characters and how they were really fleshed out, but the only thing I think it had going for it was the graphics and scenario, the characters just felt really...typical, at least to me. But that's what most people started with, so of course VII is going to lead in this poll! Although I doubt many people who started with VII played any of the previous ones to the end.

Of course, that may just be me stereotyping Final Fantasy VII fans...

Also, I don't think it's a bad game, by far. I hate how over hyped it is, but VII, like every other Final Fantasy, is a shining example of how a JRPG should be. Although, yeah, that's when the series kinda started falling downhill...
