When was the first time you experienced the pain and anguish of the game mechanic known as fog of war?
Me personally, it was the first Advance Wars game on GBA.  Yeh, I'm not really a big strategy player, but what are you gonna do?

Command and Conquer original. I think they called it the shroud back then.

Then total annihilation! but i found in skirmish you could turn it off lol.

Dungeon Keeper, although everything in your territory is visible there is some fog of war.

Hell, the rocks you dig in are called fog of war....I'm not sure why

The first RTS I played was Dune 2 (back in 94 or was it 93). And I remember Fog Of War in it.

There was one other game from that time which has Fog of War, but I can't recall the name...

Warcraft 1 (wow, I look older and older when I look at some things that people put.  Dune is back there, but the more I read what people put, I realize how early I started to play games. (the first game I remember vividly was asteroids) In fact I need to find or create the forum post to ask what people's first video game memory...you know to make me feel older! (only 29!)

Starcraft, then Advance Wars: Dual Strike after that.

Silent Hill the first. I was only a wee lad when I saw flying demons fly out from the mist.

Command & Conquer, although I'm honestly not sure if it even had Fog of War. I think it had, but am not sure. If not, then it probably was Dungeon Keeper for me.

Dune 2 on the megadrive/genesis

Warcraft 2 back when it first came out. It is probably completely responsible for getting me hooked on RTS games.

For me it was Starcraft. Love that game! Even more so now that you don't need to put the CD in every time you want to play. :D

It was StarCraft for me. Actually, until I found this page, I wasn't even aware that The Fog  of War was such a staple of the genre. I guess I need to play more RTS games.

My first was Age Of Mythology. Also the first RTS I have ever played.

I was all liek, "omg can't see enemies."

The original Warcraft.  I always hated that fog of war.  I would spend so much time trying to eliminate every bit of it I would often neglect the actual gameplay.

Empire Earth. Pretty sure it had fog of war in it.

Command & Conquer: Red Alert for sure, I got insanely addicted to it at age 10. It was also the first game I played to have Skirmish & a easy to use Map Creator included on the CD. Had no internet so I settled for beating 7 computers in a skirmish. As soon as one computer dies in a skirmish all 6 of the remaining computers team up and all attack you at which point you either live or die depending on how much defense you have setup.
