Question is, will there be a quick look? I would pay another sub just for that.

I dunno man, I think Football Manager 2013 might be better.

It will probably be a buggy mess like the last one, only sort of playable after the 3rd patch after jan.

The interface in the demo made me decide to hold this year.

Layout is a joke, they've made important information much smaller in favour of cramming as much useless crap on the screen as possible, but there's still large areas of empty space. Will be sticking with with the previous iteration for the first time since 07.

Oh and...

You know some people might like Footy manager but the last one I played for a significant period of time was Football Manager 2001 (called Championship Manager then), I played 2011 a few months ago and I could probably list the noticeable differences on a post-it-note.

Sorry.

Football Manager and Championship manager are different franchises dude.

Is it like a game where you have to manage this football theme as they try to survive the apocalypse?

#11 Posted by Alpha1 (246 posts) - 1 year, 7 months ago

Sorry nothing will beat Championship Manager 2 1995/1996 season!! Good memories. :)

#12 Posted by sanchopanza (246 posts) - 1 year, 7 months ago

@chrismafuchris: No its a game where you look at excel spreadsheets for 20 hours a day.

#13 Posted by coakroach (2386 posts) - 1 year, 7 months ago

Is there an option to tell your players to dive?

Or is that just maxed out by default?

#14 Posted by Ramone (2438 posts) - 1 year, 7 months ago

As much as I played Football Manager 2011 those games should not be annual, they are essentially £30 UI updates.

Love these games personally, but yeah, a quick look of this is not going to happen.

And if it was to occur, I fear it would be painful to watch.

Championship Manager was the franchise until the early 2000's when the developer and publisher split. The publisher kept the name, the developer kept the game. Football Manager is the proper descendant of Championship Manager by sticking with the same developer since the beginning, whilst what is now Championship Manager is useless I understand and very different to Championship Manager in it's prime because of the change in developer.

@AlexW00d: Yeah ChampMan was FootyMan before 2005 the ChampMan of today is different

Manchester United.

They ruined that game by making it way too fiddly. There are so many variables I can never figure out what I'm doing right or wrong. At some point I just feel like I may as well play fifa.

I like FM, but the thought of watching other people playing it sounds really boring.

How about a Microsoft Excel Quick Look whist we're at it?!

#21 Posted by Simplexity (1324 posts) - 1 year, 7 months ago

I will concede that maybe it is not the greatest game of our generation, but it is damn fun and addicting.

Anyway, Championship Manager 97/98 > *

#23 Posted by Guided_By_Tigers (8020 posts) - 1 year, 7 months ago

I highly doubt that there will be a quick look

#24 Posted by Soap (3361 posts) - 1 year, 7 months ago

I use Excel enough already at work ;)

#25 Posted by Azteck (7330 posts) - 1 year, 7 months ago

Do I get to kill footballs in it?

No?

Then I will take my leave

I really like the new interface from playing the demo, the new tactics system seems much improved from the last couple of versions.

Instead we shall discuss how Premier Manager '98 changed the video game industry.

I always thought football manager was dull if im honest.

#29 Posted by Jimbo (8883 posts) - 1 year, 7 months ago

I loved Championship Manager circa Champ Man 2. Which was 16 years ago :'(

I wouldn't want a Quick Look of FM. Yeah, Football Manager is awesome. But none of the staff are into football, they won't understand the game (at least not as in-depth as the game goes) and won't enjoy it. At the best of times, FM is quite dull to watch. Watching guys clearly not interested in it would just be painful.

or........hilarious.

@MattyFTM: True, but if it wasn't about football, but somekind of fantasy/space stuff I think Vinny is the right kind of crazy to play a spreadsheet game. Although it would be an incredibly dull QL.

Managed to secure review code. Delighted.

Should be arriving soon :D

I don't agree with nothing has changed and it's just an UI update. The thing with the Football Manager games is that they aren't much to look at, but all the best features are under the hood and take some time to see. So playing it for a few hours doesn't really show much. Play for a few seasons and things really change. I have played these games since CM2 and buy them every year. I agree some versions have been less then perfect. The last game FM2011 I played for 2321 hours accourding to Steam, but you have to account for some hours off that for the game to be running idle. I have been playing my review copy of FM2012 for the last few weeks and I have begun to see the changes but they are often subtle in the beginning.

Though I would love to see the guys do a quick-look of the game, I agree it would be useless because I think maybe only Vinny has some idea about Football (soccer for you Americans) so it wouldn't really be much fun to watch, but I'd still do it ;)

The thing with games like FM they are for the people that like to fiddle with most things, try to achieve some succsess with a team that never could get any, or just lead your favorite club to glory and crush your bitter rivals. The people that like to play these games buy FIFA and are happy, and some of us get both and are even happier ;)

But it's not a game for all, some sense of Football and love of the game is essential in my book.

#35 Posted by sanchopanza (246 posts) - 1 year, 7 months ago

@Bumbuliuz: The do make some changes, but they are either not well implemented or negative in my opinion. I also played the hell out of 2011, and even after all the patches that game is still buggy, though less than on the day of release. Which makes me question the testing process that SI implement if they need this 3 patch structure after every game.

Then there is the stuff they make worse, for me the UI change from 2010 to 2011 is a massive downgrade, they just made it convoluted and created extra clicks where they werent necessary.

All that said I will probably still get it like the idiot I am, and probably get annoyed at the little things that will inevitably have regressed from preveous iterations.

ps Surprise no one mentioned CM 01/02, most fans you speak to claim its the pinnacle of these games.

Code came Friday, been playing a bit since.

Fantastic game. Really enjoying it so far. Subtle tweaks in the interface make it more accessible than it was last year. Seems a bit easier than usual though. Love how they've re-done the pre-match system and all the team talks.
