What a terrible team that is! Anyway, I did it and I think I'm going to do this more often in FM: Start with a trash team in a low league and try to get it to the top. I think the appeal of managing a top team is gone. With a low team you have actual goals, can set more records, build facilities etc and really help shape it. Of course to have any enjoyment you need to play without loading when stuff goes bad, because they will and it adds to the experience. This is a cool game. I hope that the match engine gets even better graphics or at least some more interesting cameras. I understand that the yearly editions are very incremental and not at all different from each other, still this game sells well.

I think I'm probably going to get relegated in the Prem but I will try to maintain it there. All my stars want -huge- paychecks to stay and my little club with a 5000 capacity stadium can't compete in terms of money. :)

I did that on FM12 with Gloucester City, at the time their stadium was closed due to flooding and they played at their main rival's ground. There was a bug and the club couldn't return back to their own stadium. It was very satisfying to finally build my very own stadium. The game is really different at low level. My favorite way of playing is building a dynasty with a single club, changing generations and finding the best youth and developing it. When i get bored with that save i will most likely start a journeyman game. With the mindset that i will go after my own interest (like a real manager would) rather than stick with a single club and try to build it up. It would be cool to go around the main European leagues and win with different teams Mourinho style.

Barca just met the release clause of my best central holding midfielder. The heart of the team. I had to agree to a release clause when renewing his contract or else I couldn't keep him for the previous season. I knew it would happen. I shifted my budget and put my transfer resources into increasing my wage budget and offered him as much as I could + all the extra bonuses. No go. He accepted Barca because of their reputation. I went and checked what they agreed to pay him per week. 275.000 GBP weekly not including the bonuses. I had no chance to match that, haha. Man.

I have done that "challenge" every year, it never gets old.

I just won my 3rd CL in a row with Ingolstadt, think I am getting about done though.

@Simplexity: How can you fend bigger clubs off from taking your best players? Its like when I got something going they kick the feet under me by bidding something that the board won't refuse. I've placed in the top half but not sure if I can get higher up if this keeps happening.

@Funkydupe: You can't really. Much like in real life the bigger clubs will snatch your best talent eventually so you just have to try and find replacements that are as good if not better.

All you can do is to give them really long contracts, try to give as high as possible release clause when they demand it. I like to give high "team of the year" bonus, they most likely won't get it and will make it easier to sign them up.

My goal right now is to build a dynasty with Arsenal. A switch to the Italy's national team 3-2-3-2 formation has produced the goods for me and it may turn into my favorite formation.

Focus on youth who you can sell for profit and replace with more youth , bringing a low team to european glory IS football manager , managing the higher teams gets very boring very quickly. My first save in every football manager is to go East Stirling and bring them to europe this year im struggling big time.
