Amy Hennig is the new creative director on Visceral Games' upcoming Star Wars title.

Amy Hennig has found a new home.

The former creative director and lead writer on Naughty Dog's Uncharted series has landed at EA's Visceral Games. She will once again assume the role of creative director, this time on the studio's upcoming Star Wars project.

"As both a colleague and friend, I’ve always admired [Hennig's] approach to creative development," said Visceral studio head Steve Papoutsis in a statement posted on EA's website. "Focusing on nailing down the soul of a game first, and then making sure the writing, the gameplay, the design and the art comes together to form a unified, interactive experience for the player. This fits in perfectly with what we’re trying to do here at Visceral and Amy’s going to help us continue in our pursuit to make the most thrilling, immersive games in the world."

This is actually a return to EA for Hennig. She once worked for the publisher as an artist and animator in the early '90s, before she eventually moved on to the jobs at Crystal Dynamics and Naughty Dog that would define her career.

Little is known regarding Visceral's Star Wars project. The studio will be developing it alongside multiple other games, which will come from DICE and BioWare, and though they're planned for release in the vicinity of the upcoming JJ Abrams-directed movie sequels, EA has repeatedly said that these new games won't be movie tie-ins.

Hennig has taken to Twitter today to talk about both her excitement to be "home" at EA, and the prospect on working on a franchise that heavily influenced her.

I began my career @EA almost a quarter century ago (I have the 1991 Rising Star award from @realtriphawkins to prove it - ha! ;) ...

... It might've taken me 23 years, but I'm back - and it's good to be home @EA !

It's a privilege to have the opportunity to contribute to the Star Wars universe, after it's had such a formative influence on my life.

Ah now I'm really curious with what they're working on.

Can't wait to see what they have brewing. I'm interested in seeing what they do with Hennig on board, and with a property like Star Wars.

I'm actually really looking forward to seeing what develops from this. Visceral + Amy Hennig + Star Wars could equal something very exciting.

#6 Posted by Darji (5294 posts) -

Do it EA. Amy would be the perfect fit for that.

Yes please. Say what you will about some of the design choices in Dead Space, but that series has a hell of an atmosphere and the next few years could see a resurgence of actually cool Star Wars games the likes of which we haven't seen since the early aughts. Or you know...Star Wars Habbo Hotel. Who knows at this point.

Amy is a cool dude. Visceral working on a Star Wars game seems really interesting as well. It's weird how they chose to announce both her joining and the game itself at the same time. I guess it's because she's a cool dude.

I suppose if anyone can direct a decent game from the star wars universe it could be Amy, shame she was to late there to write it I think she would have done a decent jobe of that lets hope Visceral can back it up.

#10 Posted by Hassun (1071 posts) -

Let's hope it will turn out all right. Visceral hasn't exactly been on a good run lately.

#11 Posted by flippyandnod (383 posts) -

It's a bummer she left ND, but this is a really great place for her to land.

#12 Edited by Hailinel (24434 posts) -

Nice. Hopefully this Star Wars game is more akin to the quality of the early Dead Space era instead of later Dead Space or Dante of War.

Wow tremendous news. Makes me very happy.

Sounds like a great fit.

This is the best new possible from this story.

#17 Posted by LackingSaint (1792 posts) -

Great combination of things. Star Wars is still a franchise with a lot of potential, Visceral Games can crack out some phenomenal games when they want to (first two Dead Space games), and Amy Hennig is obviously a fantastic project lead.

The people that brought us amazing sci-fi aesthetics, gory decapitations and awesome atmosphere team up with someone that thoroughly understands a good story and engaging narrative.. to make a Star Wars game?

This is the best news I've heard in a long while.

#19 Posted by Darji (5294 posts) -

@hailinel: To be honest here. I expect a lot more than just Dead Space 1 quality. And I am sure if someone can do that at this studio it is Amy^^

Now I will get on the hype train!

#21 Posted by THEBIGZED (104 posts) -

These Star Wars games are now guaranteed to be interesting at the very least.

(Not a joke. I won't buy it unless it turns out to be a godly game. If it gets the typical EA fucking, maybe it's time for the suits to get fired. Not having high hopes.)

Han Solo: Cool Bastard here we come :)

#24 Posted by csl316 (8488 posts) -

It's not Kain, but I'm definitely on board with this decision. Thank god she didn't leave games behind.

That's cool. I'm now really excited for EA's E3 press conference: Inquisition, Mass Effect, Mirror's Edge 2, Battlefront and now this.

Ooooooh fuuuuuuuck!

Amy Henning on a Star Wars project?!!?!

Ok, I'm excited.

So Immersive. So Visceral.

VISCERAL GAMES - It's in our blood.

Well crap. Hate to see her go to EA but I wish her well. I was really hoping me personal theory was correct and she was going the new team working on Gears of War IP. I don't really care about the franchise but it seems like it could benefit from a talented writer like Amy.

#31 Edited by EXTomar (4690 posts) -

I love to see Hennig be given a shot at Mirror's Edge instead of Star Wars but there is a lot for her to work on and I'm eager to see what she does.

#32 Edited by TheHBK (5475 posts) -

Is she related to Mr Perfect Curt Hennig?

#33 Posted by Demoskinos (14779 posts) -

Great news. Amy is a fantastic talent. Could we actually see a well written star wars story for the first time ever?

I love you people!! Not to sound like a dweeb, but reading threads like this reminds me why I love Giant Bomb and our Bomber community. Never change! :)

All of a sudden this is the most I have looked forward to an EA and Star Wars product in years

#36 Posted by bunnymud (717 posts) -

Glad to see she landed well on her feet

#37 Posted by MrBubbles (766 posts) -

I hope this means they picked up and finish 1313. I was really looking forward to that game.

#38 Posted by The_Nubster (2102 posts) -

Han Solo: Cool Bastard here we come :)

Please no. No Han Solo, no Boba Fett, no chewbacca or Darth Vader or Millenium Falcon or anything of that nature. They have an entire universe to draw from, and if they rest on their laurels and fall back on the original trilogy in anything other than aesthetics or feel, they've done it wrong. Even then, there's so much more to Star Wars that could be explored without trying to harken back to emotional ties to old movies.

#39 Edited by flindip (533 posts) -

Well, in the short term its nice that Amy will be working on the Star Wars project. But, I think the real win in this is that she may be on-board for any potential Dead Space resurgence. That franchise could really use her services.

#40 Posted by MarkWahlberg (4603 posts) -

I'm more interested in what Amy Hennig does with Star Wars than what JJ Abrams does.

#41 Posted by Hailinel (24434 posts) -

@darji: Don't be so sure about that. She's a writer, not a game designer. Plenty of other factors could fuck this game even if Amy does her job well.

#42 Edited by DragonNinja789 (345 posts) -

@darji: Considering that Dead Space 2 was just okay and 3 was very sub-par if not lower then yes, I agree with you.

Uncharted with Han Solo. Boom. Ship it.

#46 Posted by Phantomjak (43 posts) -

Amy has lead teams that have created my favorite video game memories. I can't wait to see what happens next.

#47 Posted by TheVGamer (114 posts) -

Visceral's Star Wars game must be too far in production to be influenced by something like this, right? If she's going to work on something, it might just be a different game in a pre-production stage.

#48 Posted by Heycalvero (92 posts) -

Uncharted in Star-Wars-like scenarios seems super rad, this is great.

#49 Posted by alwaysbebombing (1575 posts) -

But I hate Star Wars

I'm now WAY more excited for this new Visceral Star Wars game. Work your magic, Hennig!
