Box Art Image Issues

I'm noticing more and more issues with box art images lately.

My app always takes the super_url version of a game's box art and then creates its own thumbnails from it, but I see a lot of broken super_url images.

For instance, even on Giant Bomb's page for Freedom Wars (http://www.giantbomb.com/freedom-wars/3030-42671/) the main image for the page is broken, which is actually the small_url image, but the super_url is broken for that game too (http://static.giantbomb.com/uploads/scale_large/9/97089/2621641-untitled.png)

Another example is Mind Zero. Both the super_url (http://static.giantbomb.com/uploads/scale_large/8/87790/2642254-box_mind0.jpg) and screen_url (http://static.giantbomb.com/uploads/screen_medium/8/87790/2642254-box_mind0.jpg) image are broken. More of them might be broken, I just didn't check them all.

I don't have a lot more information for you other than I see broken box art on my app a lot because the super_url version of the box art is broken on Giant Bomb.

Just replying quickly to say that I've run into this too. I'm guessing there's some issue with the files not making it out to some/all of the Akamai mirrors.

Has there been any investigation done on this? It seems like it's getting worse recently. It's not just the API consumers it's messing up, the Giant Bomb site has broken images all over the place too.

This is just a silly example, but this game had perfectly good box art until just today:

Now it's broken here on Giant Bomb, and when you grab the image via the API.

I think the Mind=0 example I put in the original post has been broken ever since I reported it, and that was 5 months ago.

if you're seeing broken images, flip them from jpg->png/png->jpg

for instance, this is the super_url for the day 5 goty recap: http://static.giantbomb.com/uploads/scale_large/0/31/2711358-day05recap.png

as of this post, that 404s.

But if you try http://static.giantbomb.com/uploads/scale_large/0/31/2711358-day05recap.jpg you get the image.

The goty images actually broke in succession as new videos were posted. I've also seen this happen with a lot of posts from Patrick.

I don't flip the extensions in practice, but if you desperately need the images that's how you can get them. it would be cool if gb eng knocked that one out when they get the chance.
