A GB Quick Look of a Cricket game. Hmm. Just how much about cricket does the GB staff know? You know what? Never mind that, I guess Jeff and Vinny can stumble along for some hilarious sports club quick looking.

They know zero about it (as does any American), and that's exactly the point.

Actually Jeff talked to Gary Whitta on the Octoberkast about how when he was over here in England he had nothing to do so he spent like a whole day in his hotel room watching a cricket match and eventually learnt some of the rules. Probably forgotten most by now tho

It got pulled off of Steam for being terrible, I guess that's why they're looking at it.

YES!

Hell, I had to look up "cricket" on Wikipedia just to be sure which one it was. Turns out that cricket and croquet are not the same thing. Who knew?

Someone suggested the game on Jeff's Tumblr. Well, suggested it to the World Famous Giant Bomb Sports Team to be more specific!

Surely it can't be as bad as our play in the first test.

As somebody who genuinely loves Cricket I look forward to this QL immensely, listening to Jeff and Vinny talk about Cricket (something I assume they know nearly nothing about) while playing a HORRIBLE cricket game is going to be absolutely hilarious.

I was just about to make a thread on this when I saw the upcoming. Take a FIFA or a PES sports team Quick Look and multiply that by 'This is like Baseball right?' and what do we have? Tomorrows Quick Look, that's what. This shall be a glorious day for all.

Uh-oh...

#14 Posted by Dethfish (3627 posts) -

This will surely be great, and since I know nothing about cricket I won't have a nagging voice in the back of mind saying they're doing it all wrong.

it's horrible? what a bummer.

Everything I know about cricket I learned from Hitchhiker's Guide and stereotypical British characters saying that various things are "just not" it.

In fact, I operate under the impression that wide swaths of the average British person's time is spent telling people what is and what is not cricket. Turns out there are quite a lot of things that aren't. (mind you, my best friend that I've known for over a decade now is Australian, and to this day I choose to believe that he eats nothing but vegemite and prawns after a hard day of tracking crocodiles and wallabies, so I may not be the best source of reliable cultural behavior information)

News to me. I'm looking forward to this educational Quick Look.

I watched some Cricket in England. It wasn't all that complicated, I just didn't care enough to remember what I learned.

This game is absolutely terrible. You'd think publishers would try and at least do a good job on one of the most intense rivalries in sport. Can't wait to see this quick look!

Knowing nothing about a game hasn't stopped them from Quick Looking things before...

Seriously?! This is going to be great. I bet Drew is secretly into Cricket and will run the show. That or he has delved deep recently.

Apparently the real reason Trotty left Oz was to appear at the launch party.

No professional reviews, but it has a 0.2 user rating on metacritic. This will be glorious.

Vinny & Jeff stumbling their way through sports games that they know nothing about is always funny. But on top of that, Ashes Cricket 2013 is completely broken. It's been pulled from Steam and Valve are offering refunds because the game is "not fit for purpose". It has been in development for ages, delayed several times and it sounds like they just said "fuck it, ship it" and have released a completely broken game. Which should make the QL even more hilarious.

Also, to those who don't know what cricket is, this should explain everything. It's a funny & entertaining read if you know what cricket is, too.

This game is so unplayable and awful that Valve actually pulled it from the store. I'm interested to see just how bad it is because Steam has very low standards for its releases.

If serious, be on the look out for Don Bradman cricket by Big Ant Games - that's supposed to be very good. If you're joking, disregard this comment, it's early.

#31 Posted by Tajasaurus (794 posts) -

@candlejakk: i saw a poster for that the other day! i got my xbox from the eb in swanston st in melbourne, and apparently they are having the debut there or something?

i've been kind of worried about ashes though because it was meant to come out in june and then it just.... didn't. haha.

There have been some decent cricket games, most of them suck though.

This one looks like it falls into the latter.

I hope it is. This has potential.

#35 Posted by DizzyMedal (399 posts) -

As someone who had a lot of cricket inflicted upon them as a child, I'm not sure even the dynamic duo of Jeff and Vinny will be able to make this watchable.

#36 Posted by AMyggen (2548 posts) -

I hope the QL is five days long (I do not know anything about cricket other than the fact that matches can be very, very long).
