Wait, what?? indeed!

Did they really say that?  That's completely insane.

Bioshock sold ~3 million; does anybody other than Take Two believe Bioshock 2 can outsell that?  Do they even believe it themselves?  I would be extremely surprised, especially given they've missed the holidays.

I would go as far as to say Borderlands can and will sell better than Bioshock 2.  Who's with me??

Bioshock has a huge movement behind it that could drive sales past the first one I guess (I'm no analyst) but I dunno if it would really move that many copies. Well, I don't think it would. Who knows.

I don't think Borderlands will do anything near those numbers either, although the art style change has given them TONS of new fans which I'm happy about.

It seems a tad ambitious, yeah. However I played it for the first time today after buying the Bioshock/Oblivion bundle, and I know for sure I'll be picking up Bioshock 2. I dunno, maybe the bundle thing will garner them a substantial amount of additional fans, though probably not nearly enough to merit the figure they're hoping for.

Yeah. I think they're way overshooting it.

Definitely overshooting it. If I were to guess I would say they are doing it on purpose to generate some talk around the web, magazines, etc. If they can substantially boost the number of people that are aware of their game, that's half the battle.

The thing is, the main attraction of the first game was the unique setting and the atmosphere.  That's played out now and they have to rely on gameplay - which was pretty mediocre.

I was impressed with Bioshock, but not impressed enough to finish up the first game (after the reveal), let alone play through another.

They should have made something completely different.  Airshock or whatever.

Yes, they are overshooting it. Even 5 million copies is crazy and just a dream.

I was impressed with Bioshock, but now I'm not so hyped for the sequel anymore.

Bioshock 2 is a game that should have never been made, its obviously a cash grab trying to pump more money from the tit of the first title

All Take-Two's president said was that with all the critical acclaim Bioshock got, it should've sold 5 million, not three. He didn't directly mention the sequel.
