Adding Premium Podcast feed onto Overcast podcast app on iOS

Hey there guys

Trying out a new podcast app (Overcast) and just wondering if anyone has had any luck adding the Premium podcasts (Alt+F1) into it?

I tried to paste in the RSS feed but it didn't like it :-( It just keeps sending me to the default Apple Podcasts app.

Any ideas?

No luck with the suggestion above @talibanchic. Any advice? Do I replace username:password with my own username and password? Would love to start listening to the premium podcasts in Overcast!

Um, yes. The point there is that you add your own username and password.

Just a note: please, for the love of god, if you're going to do this, make sure you're using SSL. Otherwise, you're sending your username and password over the clear throughout the internet, in a way which is trivial to intercept for any bad guys.

That is, use this address :

https://username:password@www.giantbomb.com/podcast-xml/premium/

and NOT this address:

http://username:password@www.giantbomb.com/podcast-xml/premium/

Note the "https". This will encrypt the url so no one can intercept it.

I'm a dumbass and probably just typed it incorrectly the first time around. It works now.

In case anyone is trying to do the Giant Bombcast in Overcast now, it's currently:

https://USERNAME:PASSWORD@www.giantbomb.com/podcast-xml/premiumbombcast/

I cannot describe in words how frustrating it was to add "username:password@". Every time I typed the "@" it deleted the URL. Anyways, that's the URL you want to use for the Bombast.

I thought I was going to have to go back to *shudder* ANOTHER PODCAST APP

I subscribed to the giant bombcast through Overcasts' search, and that stream has Alt F1, the powerbombcast and the giant bombcast, ad-free I think. (Unfortunately i have no interest in the non-bombcast content, but oh well.)

The feed was fine before, but there was a problem a few days ago with the Bombcast feed that caused this problem. I've sent an e-mail to the developer to see if he knows of a fix. I'll post it here if it's something that has to be done manually.

Any update on this?

Just used the info in this thread to add the premium feed in overcast. The feed seems to show up, loads in the album art and all, but it lists it under the played pocasts section and doesn't show any old episodes or anything. Will it start showing episodes once some new ones show up?

Yeah it didn't show anything at first but it came right!

After using the methods described above, I have all the feeds working. Only problem is it isn't pulling the album art. Thoughts?

I know this thread is about Overcast but I found subscribing to the premium feed in Downcast much more simple than what you guys are going through.

@august: Overcast scrapes podcast feeds on its server so it can send push notifications for your phone to download episodes in the background instead of waiting until you open the app, so it's more complicated to use a secure feed with it.

Pff, Pocket Casts is where it's at.

Thanks. I can finally get rid of the other podcast app I was using just for the premium stuff.

I type it in with my user and pass and it says "No podcast feed could be found at this URL" Any suggestions?

Type it in exactly like this(with your username where username is, where your password is where password is):

If you leave out anything, including the trailing / it will not work

Is what i type in, with my actual password in the PASSWORD space and i get "not found" I'm confused!

I get the premium podcasts but it wont show the sphere podcast or Danswers. Were these not pushed to Overcast?

@none_braver: same problem here, just the premium bombcast showing up.

Update: readded the stream using the string that mikemcn mentioned and now it works. Even Danswers is there.

@wobbles: really? Its totally not working for me, i don't know whats wrong. I check my username and pass, its all right, it says "no podcast found at this url"

For those that this isn't working for, you're probably using characters that need to be escaped in your username or password. Go to http://meyerweb.com/eric/tools/dencoder/ and enter your password, then hit encode to get the string to use in the url.

Thank you but It's not working still, oddly the URL totally works in instacast, but I don't want to use instacast, OVERCAST UBER ALLES.

I even tried exporting the OMPL data from insta to over, did not work, Overcast still said there was no podcast there.

I tried exporting the instacast version of the podcast data to email, and then from email to overcast, still no dice.

SO I must be cursed...Maybe If I just wait a bit it will solve itself?

What do you do if you've signed up to the site using Google/Facebook or Twitter and do not have a password for your username?

I just used "forgot password" to set a password -- so disregard my previous question.

@goombahmike: Thats a problem with every app you'll use. It's annoying, but eh. They need to attach the artwork to every file to get it working.

I added the Premium podcasts to Overcast using @gkhan's method, but the Giant Bombcast doesn't seem to be included. All the other podcasts are (Danswers, Power Bombcast, etc.). Do I need to use a separate URL for the Giant Bombcast?

The only problem with this method of inputting your credentials in the URL (over https) is that the podcast artwork no longer downloads. See:

Glad that it works (I use Overcast on iOS), but wish I had some artwork!

Has anyone tried to add the Beastcast Premium feed to Overcast? I've tried a lot of ways to put in my username and password but none are working. I just get Not Found, anyone have ideas?

I got it, on iOS you have to subscribe via Safari , open the premium page on safari and login!
