During the last bombcast the crew talked about sloppy joe sandwiches as if they are something made of ground meat and a tomato based sauce.
Bombcast misrepresenting the sloppy joe.
" I've never eaten a sloppy joe that looked like that. Mine fit the bombcast description. "Same here. It's the only sloppy joe that I know of, that I grew up eating.
I'm not from England but i approve this message." I'm from England and just looking at that makes me want to throw up. "
Wow, that looks disgusting, though I bet it's alright. They certainly look "sloppy." ;)
Here in Eastern Ohio, our Sloppy Joes match the Bombcast's description.
You fail to realize that there is more than one type of Sloppy Joe. Besides, cole slaw if disgusting.
Yeah, the Wikipedia page (and a bunch of recipe sites) seem to agree with the Bomb dudes' description of it.
" @DeeGee said:I'm a wizard and th..." I'm from England and just looking at that makes me want to throw up. "I'm from America and seconded "

THIS IS A LIE
A sloppy joe is a deli meat sandwich on rye bread topped with coleslaw.
"
What the hell? That looks disgusting.
Is some kind of New Jersey thing? I've never, ever seen a Sloppy Joe that looks like that.
That wikipedia page also says" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sloppy_joe
"
i.e. a New Jersey sloppy joe is a totally different item of food to what the rest of the US call a sloppy joe. It's a case of two completely different foodstuffs sharing the same name.Sloppy joes are also referred to as:
Manwich in parts of Northern New Jersey, after the popular name brand sauce, as a distinction from the local variant also known as a "sloppy joe"

A) The Sloppy Joe discussed by the guys on the Bombcast is disgusting. The idea of a loose meat sandwich is just weird to me, and way too messy.
Also from New England, but this is a Jersey thing (Hnng) down here in Rhode Island we do things differently.
I'm from England so I have no business being in this thread, but, if you ask me, a hamburger is the first thing that comes to my mind.
The Picture in the original post is more like a Reuben then a sloppyjoe where I'm from
Both of your very own links reference the bombcast description, which is manwich meat. They go on to report on the abomination you show in your photos, but they prove the tomato sauce and meat version is not a lie, it's just the more commercial and commonly known mess.
After recreating said sandwich, I can officially state that the coleslaw and cheese somewhat disguise both the meaty taste AND texture.
My school had the best Sloppy Joes and burritos ever, and I don't know how to find delicious replacements.
"A) The Sloppy Joe discussed by the guys on the Bombcast is disgusting. The idea of a loose meat sandwich is just weird to me, and way too messy. "
It's not messy if you don't want it to be. If you use a bun that's not flimsy and floppy and don't overstuff it with meat, it's as clean as any normal burger with toppings.
Thinking of it as disgusting without having tried it strictly on the idea of it being loose meat is kind of silly, I think. It's far less foreign than you're imagining it to be.
" Coleslaw on a sandwich? Who came up with that?! "Southerners put coleslaw on everything, so a sandwich seems pretty normal by comparison.
" A) The Sloppy Joe discussed by the guys on the Bombcast is disgusting. The idea of a loose meat sandwich is just weird to me, and way too messy.I'm vegetarian and a sloppy joe disgusting? Lul what?B) ... That also looks disgusting. Why on earth would you put coleslaw on a sandwich!? Once again, I don't like 'loose' sandwiches where the filling can just splurge out. I like my sandwich eating to be relatively clean, thanks."
" God, that looks disgusting. Coleslaw on a sandwich? Who came up with that?! "Jesus Christ himself.
The regular sloppy joe is well, sloppy to me, though like one poster said if done correctly, it's neat. I've eaten manwhich's version when I was young. I remember it as shredded beef with a BBq like tomatoe based sauce between a Italian roll. The NJ sloppy joe is regional, and looks like a cold variant cousin of the rueben as Vao notes.
Just to say the NJ sloppy joe doesn't look bad to me, though I do not like either corned beef or coleslaw. PPl. get used to things, develop a taste for them.
