I've been a member here for just under a year, but I'm ashamed to admit I just discovered how awesome the Bombcast is during E3 '11. I Started listenind religiously after that, but I feel like I missed a lot of cool (and crazy) stuff. So I'm picking up with the first Giant Bombcast and listening to all of them from the start. I've already listened to the 2009 and 2010 year end debates, but am going to listen to them again when they come up in order so I can hear how people's opinions evolved over the course of the year. I expect I can knock out 4 or 5 a week, plus keeping current.

So am I crazy?

You're crazy.

But it's something I've thought about doing, too, even though I've been listening since the start. It'd be nice to hear them talk about games that I didn't play at the time but had returned to after the fact.

I end up re-listening to the older Bombcasts on a regular basis (basically whenever I'm playing a game since I've gotten to a point where I don't play games without any background audio) and also whenever I need to drive long distances. So I've probably listened to each Bombcast as least two or three times.

@Asmo917:
not as crazy as  @Matthew

Added by Matthew on June 13, 2011 unfollow | ignore |

Because two exclamation marks means you're super serial about it!

I have this weird goal of going through each show and taking copious notes, as this whole college thing has taught me. You can find all of the previous entries in this series via my blog, the Bombcast forum, or simply by searching up top. Whenever there is pertinent discussion on a given topic/game/person, I'll do my best to link that individual Breakdown to that particular page.

This is a fluid list. Beta as its popular to be known as. Things are going to be dynamic, pertaining to formatting and such, until I get a feel for how things are going to turn out. Categories may be added, renamed, or simply taken away on 'cast to 'cast basis. Let me know if you see something wrong! This is as much mine as it is yours!

Legend:

  • Voices - obvious enough, who's in the podcast
  • Reviewed - initially going to be reserved for the taste testing they did early on in the series, will see how things turn out later when they start phasing it out
  • Movies mentioned - despite being a videogame-centric podcast, these guys have some serious debates on movies and people/ideas pertaining to them
  • Games mentioned - games/game series mentioned on the 'cast. Listed if the game has some type of discussion or context behind it, not simply if name dropped
  • Companies Mentioned - these guys spit knowledge about companies like nobodies business. best to catalog it all to be held against them
  • Names dropped - much like the games mentioned, people mentioned if it pertains to the 'cast
  • Out of context quotes - the tiny crazy bits we all love our boys saying. taken directly out of context makes it even more hilarious
  • Timestamps-the parts of the 'cast that are fairly easy to distinguish with Ryans segway ability. Oft times these will seamless lead into a bigger discussion on the topic
  • Definitive quotes - the bits where they're all business, and give their honest opinion/prediction on a topic. If you were to jump to a time in the 'cast, these would be it
  • General notes - ideas I've garnered from the crew during the 'cast
  • ******* - multiple astricks denote a few minutes of the 'cast you'd do well listening to, if for nothing else than the hilarity/gravitas of it all
  • 1+ - denotes where they talk about a certain topic for more than a minute, instead of simply dropping the name in there for no discussion.

Not crazy at all. Those old bombcasts are some classic stuff, including an especially great string of episodes at the end of 2008 (the 12-02-08 episode is still my favorite of all time). So many legendary bits in that back catalogue: Hemp milk, djungelvral tasting, all of the episodes from when they went to TGS, Fuck You Uno, Marcus Fenix at home, hot sandos, scan the background... good times!

It's also cool because so many of the predictions they made on those older episodes ended up being scarily accurate.

Yeah man. I joined around E3 last year, decided to hit up the archives over the summer. Not so much for 'getting all the in-jokes', but just because the bombcast is a quality show.

Evolution is fun to watch when it's sped up really fast.

Its a good thing to do to use up time travelling. I start my new job in 2 weeks and plan to listen too all the screened, tested and giantbombcasts I've missed (intentionally) for the past 4 months, should keep me going for a good little while! After they are finished I plan to watch the Persona 4 Endurance run (which I never got around to seeing at the time)

I did the same thing. I started about a year ago so i didn't have quite as long of a backlog as you to get through, but it was definitely worth it. I usually listen to the old ones while i'm doing something else, like grinding achievement points in a game i've already beaten or something like that. It really helped to give me some more context to the history of the site, what they are all about, what their likes and dislikes are, etc. I also went back and played some old games that they talked about.

Since we are talking about going back to the start, this seems like a good place to ask. What is the meaning of the "Arrow Pointing Down" podcast name? I don't remember it being mentioned on the podcast itself and I assume it was explained when they first launced the blog.

You are crazy, and it is a great idea if you have the time for it.

I have listened to it from the beginning and there are many little gems scattered throughout its entire history.

I would probably skip the new releases segments though as they are pretty meaningless now and not the best part of the bombcast.

I've listened to every Bombcast twice (up to 2011) and was on my third run when I decided to start listening to the other Whiskey Media podcasts instead. They're really good!

Do it!
