So, a few weeks ago, I started noticing just how often Brad says the phrase "you know" and now I can't stop hearing it and it's starting to get kind of annoying.

He seriously says it several dozen times an episode, sometimes multiple times in a sentence when he's trying to explain something.

Has anyone else noticed this?

I know what you're talking about, but it doesn't bother me. Not very many people can speak clearly, splitting sentences up with, 'ums' and 'likes'. At first it's annoying, but I get used to it pretty quickly.

Between "You know" and "Like I said" goes a good percentage of Brad's insights.

It's just his space-filling expression when talking, most people do that (either sometimes just uh or um) unless they have been trained/trained themselves not to. I guess it seems kinda weird because it is actually a statement that could potentially have meaning instead of just a noise.

I noticed Vinny says "let me ask you this..." but its usually followed by a brilliantly dumb question so its a sign of great things to come

This is just true for some people. Ever since my cousin pointed out the number of times David Beckham says "you know" while being interviewed, I can't help but laugh at it. Also, the number of wrestling promos that begin with "you know" is also very high - some people, like Kevin Nash, are/were particularly guilty of it.

Brad is not the most polished and effusive speaker, and that's fine, especially since he's got Jeff and Vinny picking up the energy on the Bombcast. Also he doesn't need to be a great talker, because he's a great writer.

The Vinnyism I've recently noticed is the number of times he says "holy ...!". "Holy cow!" is the clean version, but "holy crap" is also very common. Dude says it all the time. Doesn't annoy me; if anything, it's kind of endearing.

His (and Vinny´s) "Wait...." at the start of every second sentence is way more annoying.

But you tend to notice this stuff with everybody. I just recently met an old friend again for the first time in god knows how long.. and some of his style of talking can be a little weird. But, who cares.. I´m pretty sure I´ve annoyed a fair share of people in my time. Live and let live I guess.

I often hear various vocal ticks such as this when listening to podcasts. You kind of just have get over it, because it's an inevitable occurrence when listening to a group of people talk for an extended period of time.

Other gems include - Um, Like and right?

It always make me laugh when I hear brad over emphesise the wh in awhile or similar words. It always makes me think of the Stewie/Bryan bit from Family Guy.

Brad is to, "you know" as John Carmack is to, "in there". Just make a drinking game out of it and it'll work itself out.

easy thing to get over you know... I mean why would it be annoying...

I think its something little that you need to get over, each member of the bombcast have their quirks but that makes them who they are and thats kind of the point of listening to them... Having said that- I used to get annoyed when Patrick would argue trivial points with vinny for no reason and to no end... so I stopped listening to the bombcast for a while.

All the Giant Bomb guys have odd speaking qwerks.

I've always found it strange the way Brad says something is weird when it has even the smallest discrepancy from his expectations. "This FPS has inverted controls by default. Weird." That sort of thing.

Jeff has the habit of saying "I mean..." when he explains something even when he isn't clarifying any facts, but rather just stating new ones.

I don't find it annoying I just notice them.

Brad Muir is worse, he can say the word "like" 5 times in a sentence and it's driving me nuts sometimes. Love the dude though, so it doesn't really matter.

I never understand why people let things like this annoy them. I'd say the majority of people repeat certain phrases all the time. No big deal.

Yup, the idea of starting a thread pointing this out has crossed my mind many a time, and he isn't the only one guilty of it. Jeff has said it a few times, too, usually after when Brad speaks his mind on something. It also bothers me when he says something is "the best/worst" when he noted his dislike/hatred for that phrase sometime before E3 happened. I remember Stepto, former Microsoft man, saying something was "the best" during an E3 stream and me trying to gauge Brad's reaction to it (which was blank, I'd guess).

But whatever, can't do anything about it, except think about how many times he does say it. Which is a lot, and now it's probably going to bother people into paying attention to it more.
