Classic Bombcasts

Hi everyone,

I've been listening to the Bombcast for roughly the past year and I realise I must have missed a lot of classic stories, arguments(obviously not serious, I know they exaggerate for comedic effect) and laughs.

Can people recommend some essential episodes?

I think this is the one where Ham radio happens and everything breaks and goes off the rails. I believe Ryan was "unavailable on assignment" that day.

If it's the one I'm thinking of, it's glorious.

And the Fast and Furious "analysis" is just magical.

@nolastname: This Year Collection has compiled best of's for for each year of the bombcast. After those I'd suggest the GFW Radio and 1UP Yours best of's. They're arguably better than the bombcast. Or you could listen to The Hotspot best of's, which is the show the guys did when they worked at Gamespot. There's basically a decade of gaming media history chronicled in those 4 shows.

All the best stuff was during that sweat spot when Patrick was new and still funny, and when Ryan was hosting.

Also the really early stuff with just Jeff and Ryan was great too.

If you want to listen to an actual argument, I think the one earlier this year(?) between Brad and Jeff about PvZ Warfare came closest to being one.

As for funny stuff, I've listened to Nintendo Downloadable releases segments for dozens of time. Thisyearcollection has gathered those effectively.

The one where they talk about going to California Extreme and Patrick buying an arcade machine is the single greatest podcast they ever released. It ask also the one where Ryan talks about how he narcs on some stoners and the Apple Bees twitter thinks Jeff is going to kill himself.

This is a favourite of mine - the gang discuss the Pizza Hut app on the 360. Particularly love the banter about pizza and E3 a bit later on in the clip!

Also can't beat Jeff's genuine hatred for NiGHTS. "I did a loop de loop, man! Isn't that awesome? I got an A! Fuck off."

In fact, any of Jeff's rants against videogames he hates are always entertaining.

thepunishert on YouTube is a great place to look. Unfortunately he stopped updating about a year ago so no new classics.

Was Rick "The Ricker" Peterson on a bombcast or NDX? Either way listen to that podcast, he's great, still not entirely sure who that guy was, but he was great. My favorite ex-open wheel racer.

The whole of 2010 when Jeff read the Nintendo download service releases every week.

I wholeheartedly second the This Year Collection compilations. 2010 has over an HOUR of Nintendo download goodness.

@nolastname: I agree that Patrick isn't typically funny. I love Patrick to death, but he's not especially funny.

My favorite bombcast can be summarized in one word, "cunt."

@sammo21: I like Patrick too, I loved reading his articles but I hated whenever he tried to be funny or got too "holier-than-thou" during discussions on the bombcasts.

@cheddartyme: I don't think I've ever heard Vinocchi on the podcast, must give that a listen.

How has no one mentioned [url=http://www.giantbomb.com/podcasts/giant-bombcast-12-09-2008/1600-55/]12-09-08[/url] yet? Only Bombcast I've listened to the entirety of multiple times. They had recorded a full-length Bombcast which apparently got erased, so they recorded this one immediately afterwards in what seems to be a drunken stupor. So many classic moments: Jeff's sweet synth-playing, emails from Thor Odinson, and just the general impression that none of them even give a fuck. Funniest thing I've ever listened to.

Definitely check out this one, it is easily my favorite episode of the Bombcast.

The episodes that stand out in my mind are the dog ass chicken and dumplings and patrick describing a picture he found on the street of megaman with his penis out. Don't know which episodes these are from sadly.

I'm trying to think. The california Extreme ones were really good.

I think my favorite Bombcasts were the ones from late 2008 - 2009. It was just the original crew of Ryan, Jeff, Vinny, and Brad. I got nothing against Patrick or Dan or any of the new fellas, but there's something about just having the original 4 guys that makes those Bombcasts special. Call me a nostalgic sucker, but nothing will beat those podcasts with the greatest foursome of all time.

Oh, and single shot to center mass.

I can't remember which episode but they were discussing lice or bedbugs. I laughed the entire time.

This made me laugh so hard I almost fell down a staircase.

I'll second the podcast about Ryan accidentally NARC-ing at the hotel and Jeff's Applebees crisis. That's truly a classic.

Jeff's circuit-bent shit hits me in ways nothing else ever does. It's so broken! I love it!
