It really doesnt, there have been far better games out this year forinstance RDR. Personally i think it'll be a split between RDR and starcraft but i also thing that arcade games like SMB might be in there too. I hope the bombcast is around the three hour mark again. "
RDR is a reskinned GTA. The gameplay is almost the same, I liked it but in in no world is it way better than ME 2. I would also say that Starcraft 2 doesn't deserve it because it does very little to the Starcraft formula, by the way I've played about 500 games of SC2.
As much as I would hate to see RDR lose to Mass Effect 2, its gonna happen. Jeff couldn't into RDR, which really was the only other game all of them liked.

thats just recorded time. im sure he will edit out some parts and it will be shorter that that. but hey we dont know if theyre done so it could be LONGER!
@99X: Recall that they do podcasts for a variety of awards beyond just GOTY. They also do awards for each console, and at least last year they had best NPC and joke awards like the Northie for best character played by Nolan North. Not all the time is necessarily dedicated to the overall GOTY.
Hopefully they don't try to dance around spoilers for these games. I think last year's (and 2008's) GOTY podcasts were great, but it's very weird to hear them try to argue the merits or demerits of a game while dancing around specific plot points.
I get that there are a lot of folks who may have not yet played some of the games up for discussion, but I feel like spoilers should be an assumed risk in any game of the year discussion.
...Not that anyone is going to see this four pages into a thread, but I feel better having put it out there.
They posted 2008 on 12/30 and 2009 on 1/1 so we have a two week wait....sad panda. But last year we got mini podcasts leading up to it. Lets hope for the same.

@CptChiken: RDR was good, but the missions got boring, story was a bit asinine, and multiplayer worthless. ME2 was a game that made me proud to be a gamer.
I'm hoping for 3 1/2 to 4 hours of arguing, and Jeff getting really close to the mike, and having his voice go high as he ends sentences. Am I the only person that notices that?
I'm rooting for Bayonetta for some kind of award, if not Game of the Year. I've never had so much fun with a game-ass game. It doesn't take itself too seriously and it is very aware of the fact that it is merely there for amusement. The moment I sat down with the game, it was like it turned to me and said "Yo, we're about to have some fun, all right?" I gave a knowing nod, and we were off on a wonderful journey of non-stop jaw-dropping moments.

most of them were just 45 minutes long and saying "we decided on this with this other thing as a close runner up" then talk for 10-15 minutes about why they liked it
According to a certain tweet (from Mr. Davis) 2/3 of the GOTY bombcast = 5h20m. So if my math doesn't fail me, the entire bombcast should be around 8 hours. Prepare for EPIC. Last year was around 5 hours if I am not mistaken.
I think that the ultimate deliberation will be between Mass Effect 2, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood and Red Dead Redemption. Possibly, Super Mario Galaxy 2 in it. SMG 2 doesn't look so much as a serious contender.
But, I am hoping Brad goes for it and only talks about Starcarft II for the GOTY, Ryan gets crazy with all that and starts to scream he will choose Pac-Man Championship Edition DX and won't change it, Jeff says oh yeah then I am going with DJ Hero 2, Vinny says Super Meat Boy, everyone says oh yeah that game is awesome and in the end Kirby's Epic Yarn win the GOTY. I am calling it. =)
@NickL: In fact, the first 4 podcast were no longer than 15min. The last one was 3h45m. I know all this, because I am going to listen to them again.

I see, I don't care much for GOTYs, but it will be interesting
Now that I am thinking about it I am getting really excited to hear these. I mean, if they follow last year rules, the 360 award will be between Halo: Reach, Alan Wake and Limbo. Other options are like Dance Central, Fable 3, Crackdown 2, Comic Jumper and RISK: Factions. It would be interesting to hear the deliberations between those games. Unless, they don't even mention more than the first 3. By the way, the only 5-star game there is Limbo. The PS3 award would be between God of War 3, Heavy Rain, MAG and Gran Turismo 5. And really, the only others I can think of is Joe Danger and Dead Nation. Very interesting. No 5-star game there. The PC award would been between CIV V and Starcraft II. Maybe they put Super Meat Boy for the PC award. And I would love to see Amnesia being discussed as well, for this award. Maybe some Sam and Max talk also. How funny it would be if Asssassin's Creed 2 also was also part of the nominees? I really can't wait for the GOTYs.
