So i have been very against the subscription, and have been pissed! Then by chance i realized there was a new short bombcast in my itunes.

They are a company that runs websites that have pretty much NO ads. I'm suprised they can even stay afloat as-is! But mad props to them for doing so and bringing us fucking awesome content for years now. "

To be honest, Whiskey Media's CEO (Shelby Bonnie) is a billionaire and could probably keep the company going for quite a while all on his own. But an unprofitable company is not a successful company. "

I'm not saying that I'm suprised that GiantBomb can stay afloat. I'm just suprised that we aren't bombarded with ads, when, for all intents and purposes, we should be. At the end of the day Whiskey Media is a company, not our internet BFFs.

See that bombcast didn't make it all make sense. It made me think the business people behind this are being stupid.
 
You don't put Jeff and Ryan out to shill for this thing which you know will be unpopular; however justified they may have thought it was, the internetz go crazy for anything.
You put a suit out there to explain it all, and then you don't make the guys talk about it, except in hushed voices and doing that kinda "aww shucks face" with the hissing noise people make then they realise they're doing something bad but can't stop it.
 
Net result; The GB crew look like they care about the community, the suits no-one knows about look bad for like a day, we hit the 5000 mark and everyone can say how stupid it all was to begin with, and how relieved they are.

Alot of people feel betrayed a lied to, and they have listened to that podcast. They dont trust the people running the site anymore. I whole heartedly disagree with all of that stuff, but that's just how it goes. Some people are really suspicious and apprehensive of change and things they don't like.
