I side with Ryan on this - steak should be delicious and tender - nothing is better than a bacon-wrapped filet with a little bit of melted blue cheese on it.

I think I'd prefer an New York strip over either, big steak, not so much fat.

I'm very fond of a good rib-eye steak myself.

#8 Posted by Scrawnto (2413 posts) -

I generally don't like prime-rib type steak. I can't stand gristle. I've never had filet mignon, though. It sounds like it would be more up my alley.

@ztiworoh: You had me until you completely ruined a perfectly fine filet mignon by adding blue cheese. A little bit of salt and pepper is all a good steak needs.

The Good Eats episode Tender Is The Loin is one of my favorites.

#10 Posted by TheUnsavedHero (1255 posts) -

Any piece of steak that doesn't have a glob of fat and crap around it is great.

#11 Posted by ztiworoh (729 posts) -

@Sergio: What about some herb butter? And I will defend blue cheese - it's a great compliment to steak.

#14 Posted by UnrealDP (1217 posts) -

Dude, I want fillet mignon all the way. Screw prime rib, man.

#15 Posted by Slab64 (1036 posts) -

Yeah, I just feel like the filet isn't a large enough volume of meat.

IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN

If I had to choose between the two, Prime Rib. But I'd rather just have a New York Strip because it's lean without being offensively tiny.

@Dany: You know there's no actual proof vegetarians life longer, right? And who wants to live forever, if that forever doesn't include bacon. Fucked logic is fucked.

Tender steak is the correct steak. Big fatty steaks suck.

You can live a plenty long life while still eating like a normal person.

A good Filet, tasty, the key is that its a non load bearing muscle :).

Like the face.

#24 Posted by fox01313 (5034 posts) -

Sure a prime rib or sirloin bit of steak is more than a filet mignon but I can always get a to-go box & cut off the extra fat then eat more steak later versus the tiny filet.

Just have fun with your cancer, heart defects and fat asses if you make it to 70.

JUST KIDDING, lol. I do it to stray away the heritable defects that I could potentially get from my parents and it also reduces the risk of many of my family's illnesses.

I once ordered a prime rib that ended up being half fat, it looked revolting. Since then, it's been straight filet mignon (between those 2 choices, anyways).

Surely a short life full of flavour is far greater than a long life where every decision is based on "what will make me live longer?"

Quality>Quantity

But, uh, I'm not a big fan of steak. Unless it's gammon steak!

#31 Posted by Ravenlight (8033 posts) -

Gimme a giant slab of prime rib, some au jus, and maybe a little horseradish.

There are more than two cuts of steak, you know. This poll's pretty incomplete.

Personally I like the flank, or as I know it, the bavette. Not overly thick, and I get the best stuff, so it's all marbled with the fat evenly distributed amongst the meat, so it cooks into the meat like butter. You just have the perfect flavor with every bite.

I also love it's next door neighbor, the hanger steak. I don't have it very often but goddamn it's good. Kinda tough, but good.

Exactly. A life without excess isn't a life worth living. It's not about surviving the longest it's about making the most of the time you do have. And I like to eat bacon topped hamburgers, so I'm gonna spend a lot of time doing that.

#37 Posted by Tim_the_Corsair (3065 posts) -

Filet Mingnon is fine if you give me 4 of them, otherwise I'll go for a bigger cut like a good Rib-eye, scotch, rump, or tbone.

#38 Posted by Dtat (1621 posts) -

Prime Rib. I didn't know there was actually a debate over this. It's got "prime" right in the name people.

#39 Posted by Jayzilla (2540 posts) -

The right answer is Rib Eye. If you haven't had one, you don't know, but ignorance is not a free pass.

@Dany: Yes in 2018 a Harvard Medicine study will deduce that being smug about what you eat increases the chance of being fatally stabbed by 36%. Eating a roast beef sandwich has a negligible effect.

Being a vegetarian won't make you live longer. Eating meat is perfectly fine, it is in our nature. However eating processed crap is what kills you. The two don't go hand and hand.

Also have fun being 90 and shitting yourself. Seriously, i'll be happy to live to about 80 and call it quits.

So I'm not really that crazy about steak, but fatty steak sounds horrible to me. I'd take a filet no question.

I hate quoting posts made 2 seconds ago but this is basically my answer. Beef in general is much too fatty for me. I'd rather some a good slab of pork.

That's what she said.

Just so can't do it >:)

#47 Posted by Ares42 (2447 posts) -

I don't really get the "I want a big piece of meat" argument, just get 2 Filet Mignon. Or better yet, get a whole filet and roast it instead of grilling/frying portion-sizes. Then you can have as much as you want =) Although as others have said I'd much rather prefer sirloin.
