Bombcast!
SPELUNKY SPELUNKY SPELUNKY SPELUNKY SPELUNKY SPELUNKY SPELUNKY SPELUNKY SPELUNKY
Is it bad I'm most looking forwards to "most disappointing game?" especially for the weird disconnect between ME3 Release vs ME3 extended cut. Brad's got a weird line to walk, I sorta suspect he might excuse himself from the conversation on it because he 'played a different game'
(and rightly so)
That Jeff had not played AC3 and then tried to twist the argument against nominating it into "OH WELL ITS TRYING TO ESTABLISH NEW THINGS" was a little mind boggling.

I'm playing it right now and so far I've been having a lot of fun.
Any spoilers in this one? I assume best story. Can someone please post a safe point for someone who doesn't want The Walking Dead spoilers?
I love, "The Walking Dead," franchise & I can hardly wait to start playing it (once I'm done with some of my 2011-2012 Steam backlog).
That said, these podcasts are starting to feel like the guys are shoehorning the game into categories where it doesn't quite fit, at the expense of games that also deserved awards. Best Downloadable is a stretch and Best Debut just makes no sense to me for Telltale Games. It might not technically be a AAA studio, but it's a ten-ton gorilla compared to the folks behind games like Fez, Mark of The Ninja and Journey.

I like this guy, he makes sense. Max Payne 3 is dope as shit!

He has played it, and stopped at a point, iirc.
I love Brad. I love his passion for this stuff. It's always Brad vs Jeff.
The best downloadable argument entertained me greatly. So did multiplayer. In fact, Day Four is a pretty good. Much better discussion than yesterday.
I have to agree with Brad. One of these games is not like the others. One of these games doesn't belong. Can you tell which game is not like the others before I finish my song? Brad should have just asked everyone this question: "If I walk into a store, which one of these downloadable games will I find sitting in a box on a shelf?" I think that should have been a disqualification for The Walking Dead (and Tokyo Jungle, but that already got cut).
In my opinion, Telltale Games hasn't fit the spirit of this award since they started making licensed games for big-name movie/TV franchises. I mean... they make Wallace & Gromit, Back to the Future, Jurassic Park, CSI, Law & Order, and The Walking Dead for fuck's sake. They're not the little guy anymore.
Lifting weights while listening to these podcasts is a BAD idea. Ow, my back...
Yeah, AC3 is definitely the most disappointing, and I feel the same about that game as Jeff does ME3, minus the great parts. I pretty much only thought the soundtrack was good, and everything else was meh. Personally, I liked Resident Evil 6, so I can't agree with that at all; I'm not blind to what makes a game good or bad, but I don't think RE6 is legitimately bad, or even lower than "fair". ME3 wasn't that disappointing considering the majority of it I loved. To be honest, if the world was mine, all the scores Resident Evil 6 got and how polarizing it was, I would have flipped that with Assassin's Creed 3. As I played AC3, while there were a few aspects I liked, I just kept thinking that it was broken in areas, and then other parts that just didn't work. The whole Kristen Bell being a Templar (which I think it just stupid 'cause I liked her character) was revealed in a Brotherhood DLC. Lost Memories was it?

You guys probably have this game but eh, whatever.
Having to listen to everyone's bullshit about Mass Effect 3 all year has been made worth it thanks to Brad saying everything I've wanted to say.
Hearing Patrick make completely false statements about the microtransactions in ME3's multiplayer (there is nothing in the game that can only be bought with real money) and then a few minutes later say he has no vested interest one way or the other in keeping it on the list was hilarious. Come on, you're better than that.
For Jeff to imply that ME3 isn't better than ME2 from a technical perspective is mind boggling. I played hundreds of hours of ME2 and ME3 on the hardest difficulties, there is not a single aspect of the combat in ME3 that isn't miles ahead of ME2.
If Brad doesn't like it, he won't let it win. This feels a lot like the extended cut of Brad's Top 10.

Completely agreed which is hilarious after all that GAMES JOURNALISM INTEGRITY talks that he just throws out these pronouncements without the slightest bit of accuracy.
And then saying "it didn't reach a group as wide as it should," what the heck does that even mean? The game is still being played almost a year later with another DLC pack being rumored, at what point is it successful?
Brad totally called them out on acting more than a little silly.
@smcn: You should have heard what bullshit Jeff was saying about Guild Wars 2. GB are not journalists.
Man ryan did his saints row turn again with picking Fez over Journey. HE DIDNT EVEN INCLUDE IT IN HIS TOP 10!! AHHHH.
Ok Im calm now, but they really should have had Alex on this category, seeing as he reviewed so many of these, and would have sided with Brad on the Journey thing. Hopefully its addressed in some form tomorrow since Alex will be included in that.
Best Download Game wasn't easy but that went faster then I expected. The guys were surprisingly able to let go on some of there favorite games quickly.
Max Payne 3 needs more love on these GOTY Bombcasts. I know that it isn't the same game as Max Payne 1 or 2, but it's still a damn good game on it's own. I mean, I can understand it not winning any categories, but for it to not even be mentioned except for the "Most Disappointing" is just crazy to me. I don't know. Maybe that's just me....
Day 4 is Top of Day 2 of Podcasting. They start fresh - with hangover voices, but it's more fun to listen to, then the marathon 1-3 (Day 1) episodes?

Yeah, Alex should definitely be another voice during these deliberations.
Also, I think Ryan seems to have forgotten how much he actually liked Assassin's Creed 3 when it came out and when he reviewed it.
I feel the same and I am pretty bummed that Brad was not able to get TWD off that list. That said, these podcasts are starting to feel like the guys are shoehorning the game into categories where it doesn't quite fit, at the expense of games that also deserved awards.
