I still demand a Vinny Alex and Drew quick look of this game.
It says all you can use the same gun the whole game. It is a bad game, still love the Family Guy series.
Reviews of games that are obviously going to be bad are always the best. Great work on this one.
Alright, you have done us a great service. Well done, if you need any medical help after this game, I can... give you a hug, I guess.

This review kind of makes me want to play it, just to experience terrible in it's purest form.
"If you are a fundamentally terrible person on every imaginable level, then Family Guy: Back to the Multiverse is the video game for you." This is indeed the game for me.

Divine his intent? What an ironic.

I get Alex's "show - ok, game - offensive" message (sort of) and I get that the game is not funny at all.
Still, it is a little weird Alex is so up in arms over it. I get that the show and game are separate entities, but if you ARE familiar with the show (which Alex says he is), you know the humor doesn't come from a truly hateful place. If you're familiar with the show and the humor doesn't work, seems most people simply would have said, "There isn't any nuance to it. It doesn't work. It's not funny at all." Not, as he basically says in the opening paragraph,"Good news, racists and like-minded pieces of shit." If you're an old lady with no context or background of the show, that's a perfectly understandable assessment. If you do have that context and background - again, as Alex does - it's a little weird? I think that's what's tripping people up.
I love the way Alex writes. Family Guy is funny to people who aren't funny themselves based on what I have seen through personal experience.
So I went and watched some gameplay footage. Not the funniest thing I've ever seen but I don't see all this supposedly horribly offensive stuff for terrible people. Where is it?
I could care less if you like Family Guy the game or the show, but I don't see why it's hard to understand why some people are getting "people who like Family Guy are scum" out of what you wrote. The quote attached to the image looks like a backhanded compliment to me(and you already admitted as much), and the way you describe the humor presented in the game is exactly how I've heard people who think the show is offensive describe the show. Including people commenting on this article.
The first time I read this article it seemed to me like it was mostly about railing against the type of humor Family Guy in general uses and not a game review. Looking at some of your comments and reading parts of the article again I'm still not clear that isn't your intent. But meh, I'm gonna like what I like either way.
Isn't it possible your intent isn't as clear as you think it is? If so, I don't think it's a big deal. I'm only suggesting saying "okay, point taken" is probably a better response than getting defensive about it.
Eh I havent watched any of the recent Family Guy stuff but the new stuff isn't as strong as the stuff from 99-06.
Judging from the last Family Guy game I played back on Xbox, I knew not to touch this one
I hate Family Guy (Tv-series) for all that its worth and so a bad review for the game feels right, but I dont get why so many people want to be so politically correct. Family Guy is as liberal and PC it can get in its "offensive" humor so to label it " racists, misogynists, homophobic" seems strange to me. Most people who like that show are pot smoking hippies and the show doesn't make fun of handicapped people as much as handicapped people who are rightwing (like the daughter of Sarah Palin etc) and that makes it "okay" and PC.
Never mind.
What I am trying to say is... Family guy is only offensive to the mind. It dumbs you down and desensitize you. It can never be "offensive" cuz that would mean it touched a nerve which only intelligent shows can do.
I started watching a playthrough of the game and Alex seems pretty right on. I haven't found anything offensive yet, but being boring, lifeless and unfunny with tedious playholder gameplay isn't doing much for me.

So let me get this straight, you don't like Family Guy, so you've decided you hated this game before you picked it up. You already decided that Family Guy, and apparently anybody who watches it, isn't worth your time, and decided to use this game as a good soap box for your position. Thanks for this absolutely useless contribution to reviews, Alex.
As a gay man who loves gay jokes, amid a mount of other hilariously offensive material, I fucking love Family Guy, and have for the past 12+ years. I find it strange that somebody who associates with people what play Cards Against Humanity and enjoy South Park could be so easily turned off by Family Guy, when neither of those other two properties are any less offensive for the sake of humor. You want to talk about offending gay people as being bad, but Mr. Slave is okay? That's fucking fantastic.
I usually love your stuff, and respect your opinions, but this is just fucking wrong, and the only thing that offends me here isn't Family Guy, it's your assertion that I'm a legitimately worthless person for having different tastes than you. Thanks for that. This is why I can't find myself calling Giant Bomb home anymore. It's constantly an assault on people for being different without any semblance of "for the humor" behind it. Between this and being called insane by Ryan Davis for having another opinion than him, That's it. I'm done with this place.
Best of luck in your future endeavors. You're an excellent writer.
This is an idiotic overreaction to what is clearly a fair (and funny) review of a shit game. Best of luck in your future of getting needlessly offended.
I'm not sure if you actually read DrRandle's post. The reason he's pissed isn't that the game is shit, it's Alex coming across as a total douchebag towards people who enjoy Family Guy. I don't think he overreacted at all.
I enjoy watching Family Guy once in a while on Netflix.. So apparently I'm an abhorrent human being because of that. Even though if you knew anything about me you'd see I'm pretty respectful towards people and always try my best to treat everyone how I would like to be treated. But of course that doesn't matter at all, because I watch an episode of family guy here and there.. and laugh.
HE'S NOT TALKING ABOUT FAMILY GUY FANS HE IS TALKING ABOUT THE NONEXISTANT FANS OF THE GAME! I HAVE TO SHOUT BECAUSE APPARENTLY YOU MISSED THE FUCKING BOEING 747 OF A DISCUSSION THAT FLEW OVER YOUR DULL HEAD CLARIFYING THAT ALEX IS NOT TALKING ABOUT FANS OF THE TV SHOW! CAN YOU HEAR ME?!
HERE'S A FAMILY GUY CLIP THAT ACCURATELY RELAYS WHAT I WANT TO SAY TO YOU!

I didn't expect this game to be good, but I also didn't expect 7 of the 11 paragraphs in this review to be a diatribe against Family Guy. 1 paragraph decrying the game's ethics maybe, but as written it does a disservice to any Family Guy fans who just want to know if the game is any good mechanically. The reviewer so clearly enjoys railing against the premise and content, I think it would be difficult to take his comments on the gameplay, mechanics, or execution seriously. Next time, please put the rant on your blog, and link to it from the review.
Exactly, If people wanted to know how Alex is above Family Guys humor maybe he should make a blog. People coming to a video game review of a TV Show already know what kind of humor the show has, so obviously the game will have the same kind of humor. All that the people want to know is how it plays, not his thoughts on humor. Considering some of Alex's jokes back when he was on GB, he is one to criticize.
Please come back to GB HQ, Alex. Articles like this makes me wish you were in videos again.

I haven't played the game, but the kind of humour that Alex is describing as disgusting and shitty is everywhere in society, from Howard Stern to South Park. Just the union of people who have watched/listened to those things and laughed at some point in their life would cover most of the North American population (I think). Are they all terrible people?
There's the point, flying directly above your head.
Well, thanks for being as condescending as possible, buddy. If you see some great social commentary in the review for "Family Guy: Back to the Multiverse" for the Xbox 360, you might want to make sure you're not projecting anything here.

I like Family Guy.
But man....this sounds horrible. And to be honest, not surprising. The game looked like garbage from the word go. I kinda hoped it'd strike the same cord I found The Simpsons Game to have. I'm still surprised at how much I liked that game.
Alex didn't like this game.
I'm not the follower type, necessarily ( I will follow if it seems good sense), but this is as much as I want to hear of 'Back the the Multiverse'
It's worse than wasted time. Time after all is finite for us mortal beings.
I haven't regularly watched The Simpsons in at least a decade. A few years ago someone linked me a clip of an episode in which (something close to) this was said:
Bart: You're gay for Moleman!
Lisa: No, *you're* gay for Moleman!!
And I still don't regularly watch The Simpsons.
Offensive "humor" falls flat when it's not actually making FUN of anything. Sounds like a lot of folks taking issue with this review aren't quite grasping that fact. If you need to see some more examples of this particular kind of failure, go check out a few stand-up comedy open mic nights. Any hack off the street can say something offensive and try to get the audience to think "Oh no, he did NOT just go there!" The standards are higher if you want to actually generate laughter.
Oh, man, I always feel sorry for Alex when one of his amazing reviews of an awful product rolls around... but at the same time I want to keep torturing him so I can read about how awful stuff is in his words.
Well done, Alex.
I guess killing hookers and doing lines of coke in GTA are ok though huh? Give me a break.
Had a bad feeling about this game since it was announced. Thankfully Alex went thru the pain for the users as always! You're a warrior Alex for having to play the crappiest games of every year.
Very enjoyable review, Alex -- thanks! You gave me some enjoyment from a game I didn't (and will never) play. A QL with Jeff would be funny, though...

@Branthog: Don't sweat it, man. We all make mistakes/miss stuff/say things less eloquently than we mean at times. I don't hold grudges, and certainly not over stuff like this. You acknowledged you made a mistake, and frankly, I can understand why you missed the point, due to missing the captions. I do recommend you not use something that strips captions out in the future, as I don't always just use those to repeat lines from the review. In fact, most times I don't do that.
But otherwise, dude, we're cool.
