Lode Runner awesomeness in unquestioned. So many good childhood memories!!
I remember seeing that Pinball Construction Set at some computer show at the Cow Palace in SF and being hypnotized. I had to make it mine.
It's a shame that a sequel to Freedom Fighters never panned out. The original was a damn fine game.
Surprised to see Freedom Fighters on there. It's good and it's your list so why not.
Bionic Commando is easily my favorite NES game.
I was rather story-oriented when it came to MK games, so I prefer MK Trilogy simply because more characters = more story development. I do recognise that if you want to play the most balanced MK gameplay-wise it's UMK3 followed by MK2. Was Vib-Ribbon the game in which you could put any CD in and it would create a level based on the music? If it was then Vib was an amazing game.
Games I bet would be further on Jeff's list (or are too mainstream for this) include but are not limited to: Abadox AudiosurfBaseball StarsBattle Arena Toshinden Bill Laimbeer's Combat Basketball Burnout ParadiseCall of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Dance Dance Revolution (anything with Boom Boom Dollar)Dead Rising DefenderDef Jam: Icon Doom Duke Nukem 3D Elder Scrolls IV: OblivionForza Motorsport 2 Garry's ModGears of WarGrand Theft Auto: San Andreas Guitar HeroHalo 3 JoustKatamari DamacyKen Griffey, Jr. Presents Major League Baseball The Legend of ZeldaThe Legend of Zelda: A Link to the PastThe Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of TimeLuminesMarc Ecko's Getting Up Michael Jackson's MoonwalkerNight Trap Ninja GaidenPac-Man Peggle Phantasy Star Pitfall Play the IndustryQ*bertR4: Ridge Racer Type 4 Rock Band Samurai Showdown IISewer Shark skate. Target Earth. Awesome. Fave part was when 2nd player started controlling some of the good guy npcs.
Necromancer is truly a forgotten gem.
NFL Blitz will always be one of my all time favorite games. Hail Merry is the play you always play!
When I saw Freedom Fighters on the list, I smiled big time. ......man, I hope IO makes another good video game soon.
ooooo freedom fight ftw
Hell yes to R.B.I. Baseball and Uniracers
I played 5 of those games, and they're pretty much the 5 most recent ones. Man, that is some old stuff!
Interesting list indeed. UMK3 is definitely a must-have. I don't know why I haven't bought that fucker on XBLA yet.
There was an Atari 8-Bit Ghostbusters, Jeff? You keep coming up with all kinds of Atari 8-Bits I know nothing about. You ever try out any APX games? The one I regret never getting was Caverns of Mars. I had no idea that was even an APX game until doing the research for the site.
It's a shame that I'm too young to have played most of these games.
*examines list* Mmm-hmm....mmm-hmmm.....After much deliberation, I have concluded that this itemized collection is quite incorrect. If you would like reasons as to why it is incorrect, I would be happy to provide you with a list of reasons why.
would have expected some more modern games, but probably just cause i wasn't into gaming when there was a C64.
freedom fighters was great. loved the soundtrack as well
Smash TV! That game was nuts! It got me thinking about Total Carnage which in turn made me think of Guerilla War. I wish more people knew of Guerilla War, especially people who have played Ikari Warriors.
Smash TV was conceiving the twin-stick shooter before we had twin sticks.
All my friends called me crazy when I told them Uniraces was on of my favorite game. I'm glad I'm not the only one that thought it was awesome.
This seems like such an obscure list. I feel almost like I am talking to that guy that knows all the bands no one has ever heard of before. I have played about 6 of the 24 on the list, heard of a few others, and some I had no idea at all.
Smash TV is an awesome game, I suck at it though.
Completely forgot about Freedom Fighters, but it brought back great memories. Unfortunately, I'm too young to have memories with most of these game. Feels weird thinking people will be saying that about some of my favorite games 15 years from now. Can't wait to see the list grow, same goes for the other editors.
Dude, Pool of Radiance! I certainly didn't expect that from you. Then again, you have mentioned that once upon a time you liked RPGs.
Oh man, Freedom Fighters, so under appreciated. To bad the follow up was Kane and Lynch.
This list consists of some obscure-ass games and some old-ass games. I feel like I'm reading the Rolling Stone list of greatest artists and I care about none of the bands
One of my all time favorites WWF No Mercy on the N64
Dude Yes!! Freedom Fighters, God that game is so good. I think the two reasons the sequel never came about, (other than poor sales) is the fact that firstly assuming the role of a 'terrorist' in post 9/11 New York is bound to upset a few people. Secondly someone is bound to draw parallels with the invasion of Iraq (I know it sounds stupid but I'm willing to put money on the fact that it was discussed at length before FF2 was shit-canned). Such a crying shame that Kane and Lynch gets a sequel and a fucking movie option, and we cant even get the original FF on Xbox marketplace. What gives?
Ah RBI Baseball..I played that game to death. It's strange because I never got into watching baseball, nor have I ever really played another baseball game but for some reason I loved that game. Maybe it was because back then I didn't have too many games to play...now that I'm thinking of it maybe I should give baseball games a shot again.
I used to play the fuck outta RBI Baseball! YES!
god damn, Freedom Fighters. I love the hell out of that game.
so wheres persona 4 on this list?
OH MAN SUPER MARIO WORLD IS AWESOME.
Those games are old school. I actually don't like old games that much. I grew up with NES and Master System, but I don't think those games are very good today. The SNES is as early as I would go.
great list, jeff. I will see your list, and raise you a SuperSpike V'Ball for NES.
Uniracers! I'm not alone! I played that game to death! I haven't played it in more than a decade, I'm sure!
" Uniracers! I'm not alone! I played that game to death! I haven't played it in more than a decade, I'm sure! "
street fighter 2 turbo hyper fighting FTW!
